If Nadal wins this WTF, the GOAT discussion is over

It's all in the thread title.

If he wins the WTF, he will have done everything. Olympic Gold, all four grand slams, tied for most grand slams, many weeks at #1 and most at #2, Masters, clay supremacy. There's just no path for Djokovic or Federer to overtake him anymore once Nadal closes the deal here. That will be it for at least a generation or two.

I agree. Unless a miracle happens and Djokovic goes Ultron in 2021, the GOAT race is over.

Yeah if he wins WTF I will put him ahead of Novak by quite a margin. I would still rank Fed a bit higher though

Now if he wins WTF-AO double, it’s over.

No. WTF is irrelevant to the GOAT debate.

The primary critetia is slams. Whomever wins the most slams, has the greatest claim to GOAT. Whether that be Federer (unlikely at this point) or Nadal or Djokovic remains to be seen.

There's just nothing that Djokovic or Federer can do from this point that Nadal hasn't already done, once Nadal wins the WTF.

Lol, no. 1 WTF title will not give anything to Nadal, even if he wins it. Still, Federer and Djokovic won this tournament much more than once. 20 slams is 20 slams, this is what matters. WTF isn't important. (and I doubt Nadal wins it anyway)

1 WTF compared to 5 by his compatriots?

He’s also over 100 weeks behind Federer and Djokovic in the weeks at 1 standings. If they both end on 20, Federer gets the edge for that alone.

But Fed doesn’t have the most prestigious Masters—Rome, nor does he have Olympic Gold

You will put him over Djokovic if he will win a title which Djokovic himself won 5 times? That makes no sense.

Federer will never win Olympic Gold. Realistically the GOAT debate is a two-horse race between Nadal and Djokovic now. Djokovic could still win the OG. But if he doesn't win in 2021 it's over for him as Nadal will continue to win enough slams (continued French Open dominance) to maintain a slight lead even if Djokovic wins more going forward.

So VamosBrigade wants to have it both ways.. before tournament they do NOT want him to win at all, because the recent winners are Dmitrov, Zverev and Tsitsipas. It is an exho, Christmas get together, etc

Now when he is in the SF and Novak is out, it is a GOAT deciding tourney..

What mental gymanstics.

Rafa has only ever won 1 indoor hard court title in his career. Still a win at the ATP world tour finals would be incredible achievement.

Whether it is 6-5-0 or 6-5-1 hardly makes any difference. Would be nice for him if he wins it but has zero impact on any GOAT discussion. If he wins AO this would be a different story.

Never mind that Roger was #1 for 237 consecutive weeks, which is more weeks than Nadal has in his entire career.
There's just no path to GOAThood for Fed unless tennis just stops forever after the WTF and Nadal loses it. Fed requires everything to be frozen as it currently stands.

Honestly, the slam race is basically over as well. Even if Djokovic wins the AO, W, USO triple in 2021, another Nadal win at the FO still keeps him in the lead. Then you factor in Djokovic's genuine struggles with Thiem and Medvedev, he's not winning triples anymore. That means a bigger gap for Djokovic to make up. Nadal and Djokovic are basically the same age (<1 year difference) and will decline together. Djokovic's only chance is a premature injury or retirement from Nadal. If Nadal remains healthy, he will continue to have a slight edge because of the FO.

Nadal would have done the same if in his prime he was up against Roddick Hewitt and Ferrero. Stop being delusional.
yes, because Nadal didn't exist in 05-07, neither did Agassi in 04-05.

Also:

# of weak years taken advantage of (primary):
Federer - 06,17
nadal - 10,17,19
djokovic - 15,16,18,19

both Nadal and Djokovic had it easier. Deal with it.

Yes cause Nadal was in his prime off of clay in 05/06 and Agassi was in his prime in 04-05

Fed had it easy from 04-06. If you count Nadal 10. Then 09 counts too for Fed. Dont forget AO 18 for Fed

But Nadal won't end at 20. Him winning more RG titles is only a matter of time. Of when and not if. So unless Djoker has one more huge push in him the slam race is effectively over right now at this very moment.

Agassi played very well in both AO and USO 2004 for starters. No worse than multiple versions of Djokovic in USO 05.
Nice try hiding Nadal as competition for prime Fed. 06 Nadal can be considered prime on grass.

09 for Fed? bwahaha
what ?
you are a joke of an evaluator.
09 is the toughest year in this century.

10 - Fed sorta went away after AO, didn't play great until the WTF. Djokovic had his worst season from 07-16. Murray was pretty inconsistent.
Comparing competition in 2009 and 2010 is like comparing day&night.

I was talking about primary beneficiaries for those years, not weak slams per se. I counted 17 as a whole for Fed even though AO 17 was a really tough slam.

04, 05 were pretty good years. Only sore people or those who don't have a clue/didn't watch say they were weak.

09 bery bery tough. Who’s fault is it for almost blowing a match to Tommy Haas on clay?

Roddick in the final who would have won if he didn’t choke like Cilic.

I’m talking about slams, because slams determine greatness.

Hewitt and Roddick? Besides 04 Wimbledon final maybe they were a bunch of mugs. Agassi could barely walk in the final.

It's good to see some Fed fans accepting the reality. If Nadal doesn't win WTF, Fed and Djok fans can continue to poke holes in Nadal's resume (as Nadal fans can do about the OG), but if Nadal wins WTF and has the slam lead. It's done, over, ended, wrapped up, finito.
