If Nick Kyrgios played to his full potential, where would he be ranked right now?

People who train hard train hard. People who want people to think they train hard post lots of training videos.

Well yeah that's true. But there was evidence at least of him putting in work pretty regularly. He also had a trainer and an actual living breathing coach at the time too.

We’ve been talking for several years about how talented Nick is, but the results have been ultimately pretty lackluster, and it seems that he has been eclipsed by Zverev and perhaps by two or three other #NextGen guys as the next great hope in tennis.

Of course, Nick has been hampered with injuries and has not always had the greatest mental stability.

So where WOULD/SHOULD he be ranked right now IF he were at his full potential?

I say 2nd or 3rd in the world, behind Nadal.
How do you know what his full potential is?

He'd be a Sampras type player, who does well on the HCs and grass, but is otherwise a relative non-factor on clay.

So however high you can go with a mediocre clay season but great everywhere else--that would be his ranking.

I think where players are is how their careers were meant to be. Therefore this is him living up to potential.
Not every player gets 5% better every year from 20 onwards.

His full potential is mediocre. Weak backhand, awful return, weak movement, average to good forehand.

The hype behind, on similar ways as the hype behind Zverev or Shapovalov, shows that most members can only read result lists when discussing tennis.

Now, what happens between the four lines........ that's beyond their comprehension.

And the worst part it is that........ tennis is a fairly simple sport to analyze, doesn't hold a candle to nearly any collective sport and a couple of individual ones, since the tactical component is very limited.

He is already at his full potential. We underrate the mental aspect. If he were mentally stronger he would have been at another level perhaps but this is his limit because his concentration capabilities are very poor. How can he possibly be better?

As I see him, Kyrgios is not the guy who likes to read books...
But if he read this maybe it will be a life changing moment for him.

About where he is now. Tennis is at least 20% mental and he lacks that. He is therefore always playing at 80% of his potential. JMO

Kyrgios peaked in 2016 and has been declining the last 2 years

He is ranked 30 right now and has only 1 top 10 win this year (over Dimitrov).

Just where he is currently....guys like him and Monfils derive more pleasure from clowning around and getting a few laughs from the crowd than actually winning anything significant. Kyrgios will have an inferior career than Monfils as he is less talented than him.

Nobody really has the full package like he does, I mean when you break down his individual shots he's top 5 for all of them, possibly the first player to have a huge serve and yet move like someone who's a lot shorter and more nimble, I'd say it's not a lack of motivation but he's just injury-prone to the extreme and pro's don't like to discuss injuries. Perhaps his attitude is partly to conceal the fact he'll be hindered by injuries for the remainder of his career.

Top 5 for all of them on what planet? Apart from the serve, there's at least 10 guys that have a better BH, and probably another 10 that have a better FH. Also, he might be faster than many other big servers, but let's not pretend that he moves like a gazelle out there.

Kyrgios is really top 3 in serve and not top 10 in anything else, except probably the fake slice forehand and the tweener

Think Kyrgios ground game's actually gotten worse over the years. His serve though, can reach pretty absurd levels at times.
But forget winnings slams, he isn't even going to surpass Monfils, who while he likes to entertain, has a genuinely solid ground game and proven results.

Oh, Sh*t! That mother F*****! He may as well have a hypodermic sticking out of his flat assss!

I was listening to that song -- I don't remember ever seeing the "doobie" bros before -- listening for clues... then it hit me... (Old. Square. Sorry.) Between that and pleasuring water bottles... he really is # 2, isn't he?!?!

If tennis was all about physical (muscular) athleticism, kyrgios would be the goat.
But you have to have a keen nervous system to go with the natural strength.
Federer is strong but his greatness comes from his nervous system ( vision, proprioception, muscle memory, hand eye coordination, mental tactics etc..). It takes more than just natural strength to be a fed djok nadal tier player. I think kyrgios will only get better with age tho. Watching how explosive his movements are, he is very naturally strong. If he trains his motor system well he could be a world beater.

I think he could be top-5 or top-3 if he had the right head on his shoulders. He goes out there looking as if he's working a 12-hour shift hauling coal. He sees tennis as a means to an end rather than a passion. Watching him live between points and on changeovers and it's so obvious that he does not want to be out there. The fact that he is where he is given all that is incredible.

He is close to .500 against the Big Three, despite his terrible work ethic.

He might be a slam dunk #1 if he had Djoker’s work ethic. But woulda/coulda/shoulda doesn’t amount to a hill of beans in the real world. He deserves the ranking that he has.

If niko committed...

Atp top ten, then, a SemiPro basketball player in Italy or Turkey.
Then, he gets a marginally more lucrative gig as a Backup dancer for Drake.

Happy nik!
