If Novak skips Cinci he drops to 3rd place and will have to face Alcaraz and Sinner in the semifinal and final at USO

Even if Alcaraz skips Cinci he still will have more points than Novak.Which will make him 2nd in the ATP. Novak would have to face Carlos and Sinner in the semifinal and final. Last year he won without facing any of them and his only top opponent was Med in the final. He had a pretty easy draw. If Novak drops to 3rd ranking there is little chance he would win USO. Even if he beats Carlos in the semis he would exhausted for the final against Sinner. I think Novak will play Cinci

That's assuming Sinner makes the final or SF.

He may have to anyway depending on the draw. He just definitely would have to if he's the #3 seed and they all make the SF and F.

if Carlos and Sinner at one side he might have similar draw to his last year. He will face some easy opposition til the semis then Med or Zverev. He would make the final without great effort. I know Med can play but Novak beat him easy last time. Novak has to stay at 2nd spot to have great chance to win USO

People that say Sinner wont make semis are delusional. Its Carlos who might have a performence drop and lose to someone like Zverev in the quarterfinal

Yea they could end up on the same side if he stays at #2 but depends on if the #3 or #4 gets placed with #1 seed.

Didn't Zverev literally beat Sinner at the US Open in the QF last year? LMAO.

Carlos has won the last 2 slams and just made the Olympic final while Sinner has gone SF at the French, QF at Wimbledon and skipped the Olympics due to being too busy hooking up with his girlfriend tonsillitis

Novak is old af, nothing he doesn’t achieve is a story at this point, every match win is icing on the best cake ever.
Its all nice but Novak crearly cares about slams. If Olympics was the only thing he cares about he wouldnt take the risk playing at Wimbledon and getting injured when Olympic come right after Wimbledon. Not only he was comming off a surgery he played bo5 until the final.

It's a tricky one for Novak. Will he have recovered enough from his Olympic high to face another tournament just 2 weeks later? I'm guessing he will.
Novak and his team are not dumb they know if he has to face both Sinner and Carlos in bo5 back to back his chances of winning are slim

yes he did but it was Sinner before the ascension. The old version of Sinner. And he barely beat Sinner when he got hurt in the 5th set. If they face each other now Sinner will beat him in 3 or 4 sets
Sinner couldn't even beat Medvedev on grass at Wimbledon last month lmao. Spare me the "guarantee" he's making the SF or Final and will beat Novak.

I expect Carlos also to not defend points at Cinci. So, Novak may be 2 for some more time
Right now Novak has 330 points more than Carlos. In Cinci Carlos defends 650 and Novak 1000 so the difference is 350. If both players skip Cinci Carlos would have 20 more points than Novak and placed 2nd at USO

If Novak is Zoned in the way he was in the OG-final - sinner isnt a problem. he doesnt have the variety to trouble Novak the way Carlos has.
If he is off, sure he can lose to anyone even chainz
I think Sinner is much more capable than Alcaraz in defeating Djokovic on hard courts.
What's more, he already did it in the round Robin of the ATP Finals, the semifinals of the Davis Cup and especially in the semifinals of the Australian Open, a Major tournament where Djokovic had not lost since 2018 but it was Sinner who interrupted his great streak of consecutive wins.

There is no pressure on Novak now though. He’s done it all. All the pressure is on alcaraz, sinner, Meddy, Zverev, etc.

Carlos is dropping 180 points from Canada, that's a 510 points differential.

He is also dropping 600 points from Cincy, not 650 given the points distribution only changed in 2024. So he needs 120 points to overtake Novak in rankings, which is a QF.

Novak won't play Cincy, he said that.

Exactly. Novak may go out early in NY, he doesnt like it there, doesnt feel comfortable on Ashe (lots of players dont, some love it) and after the elation of achieving his ultimate goal i think he will go out early, but it doesnt really matter for him. Like Nadal he achieved all his goals and then some.
The AO next season i think we will see a very zoned in Djokovic. I am sure if he wins AO he will give everything for the Calendar Slam. Wont be easy, but he has no pressure, is fit as a fiddle, why not have a crack.

lol.

You and I both know how this plays out. Sinner will lose in round 3 and Carlos will get an injury and retire in QF.

Djoker will play Khachanov in the SF and DeMinaur in the final.

... and you know what...

No way. Lol. Sinner is having his best season yet on hardcourt. He will be in the SF at the USO. I expect Carlos to be there too. We don't know how Djokovic's movement will look on hardcourt yet and how that knee holds up.

Yeah yeah. You know we have a Deminaur Open or Fritz Open incoming. Only fitting at this point, but this time I will embrace it. Would not surprise me if Djoker gets a walkover in QF after playing lucky loser in 4th round, and then plays Tsitsisapussi in the SF, and then Mugsetti in the final.

Will not drop a set until the final when Mug2setsuppi blows a two set lead and a break.

LOL. I actually think it will be a good USO with the top dogs Sinner and Alcaraz making the SF and probably Medvedev as well. Of course you can't count Djokovic out if he's healthy, especially now that he is riding high after that Olympics win. Looking forward to the tournament.

LEts hope so. Would be an awesome slam whoever wins if all 3 make the SF. I do hope an Amercian makes a run, I miss those days and think the USO crowd would go nuts. A Fritz, Tiafoe, Shelton, or that young Michelson.

Yea I hope some Americans make a run as well. Tiafoe looks like he's starting to regain form and I think Tommy could make a run based on the how well he's played this year.

I think Djokovic should skip Cinci. Should take it easy till USO. Let the rankings say anything.

Play your best tennis in USO and see where you reach. Post that take a full break till WTF ( has he qualified this time?) and play that tournament and rest again.

Only play slams and WTF from now on. Pls skip all masters and below for longevity

I think even Novak's doctors don't know how well his knee will hold up. He is not likely to push himself too much with loaded schedule at this stage, I think. To him, it's more important to be healthy and fit at this stage of his career, than who he plays in the next round. Even if his knee doesn't bother him, he can have a bad day and lose, especially in BO5 settings. He has lost a few times this year to players he wouldn't normally lose to, so nothing is to be taken for granted.

True

Although hopefully in long term nole won't have this issue.

I think Djokovic wants to pass Feds 103 titles. I can see him entering a few smaller tournaments to help with that if slams start to prove to difficult.

If Djokovic wants to get to 104, no way he will not be wanting to target Connors, who would be a few events away. Especially if he just starts entering small events, a bunch of 250s which have weak draws.

He can easily say that he wants to play new events and see new places before he ends his career, as a clever way to disguise the fact he is targeting Connors.

Totally agree. Feel USO will be a celebratory victory lap event for Nole. Also think Alcaraz will have a huge letdown and agree with your Medvedev prediction. Medvedev, Sinner and maybe Zverev the favourites.

He's not beating two best players back to back at the age of 37

Meddy or Sinner for the win in my view! It will be exciting though. It is always wide open at the big apple!
