If Novak skips Cinci he drops to 3rd place and will have to face Alcaraz and Sinner in the semifinal and final at USO

If Djokovic wants to get to 104, no way he will not be wanting to target Connors, who would be a few events away. Especially if he just starts entering small events, a bunch of 250s which have weak draws.

He can easily say that he wants to play new events and see new places before he ends his career, as a clever way to disguise the fact he is targeting Connors.
Exactly right. It great he’s still got some targets left. We know it doesn’t take much to motivate him. Provided he stays fit and staves off Father Time a bit longer he will hang around to see what he can still win.

He can focus on smaller tournaments but not fully give up on slams either. He can see how the field is, if his big rivals in bad form, bit burnt out or potential injury he might look to prioritise a certain slam over another.

Right now Novak has 330 points more than Carlos. In Cinci Carlos defends 650 and Novak 1000 so the difference is 350. If both players skip Cinci Carlos would have 20 more points than Novak and placed 2nd at USO
Alcaraz defends 600 points.
Exactly. Novak may go out early in NY, he doesnt like it there, doesnt feel comfortable on Ashe (lots of players dont, some love it) and after the elation of achieving his ultimate goal i think he will go out early, but it doesnt really matter for him. Like Nadal he achieved all his goals and then some.
The AO next season i think we will see a very zoned in Djokovic. I am sure if he wins AO he will give everything for the Calendar Slam. Wont be easy, but he has no pressure, is fit as a fiddle, why not have a crack.
GS at 38 years old?
You are so Joker.

There is very little chance Nole ends below 103 although record is 109
I don't think its because of Fed in this case but Djokovic has said he wants to play for a long time

Totally agree. Feel USO will be a celebratory victory lap event for Nole. Also think Alcaraz will have a huge letdown and agree with your Medvedev prediction. Medvedev, Sinner and maybe Zverev the favourites.
Sinner i think (i thought this would happen) is suffering burn out after his start to the season so think we wont see best of him until next season now. medvedev and Zverevi think could well be the final if in opposite halves.

He'll let us know if he's targeting a record as he always does.

lol yeah all it will take is a Fed nut hugger in the media say something disrespectful and he may just go out and do it out of spite..

Even if Alcaraz skips Cinci he still will have more points than Novak.Which will make him 2nd in the ATP. Novak would have to face Carlos and Sinner in the semifinal and final. Last year he won without facing any of them and his only top opponent was Med in the final. He had a pretty easy draw. If Novak drops to 3rd ranking there is little chance he would win USO. Even if he beats Carlos in the semis he would exhausted for the final against Sinner. I think Novak will play Cinci
The days of Djokovic contesting the top 2 rankings are probably over.

Can any one see him go through Sinner and Alcaraz in the semi and final if he is #3 in the seedings at the US Open? He will now have to depend on someone else like Medvedev or Zverev taking out one of those players in an earlier round. I guess anything is possible in the heat and humidity of New York. It does feel like he is happy with winning the Olympic gold in 2024 and he doesn’t have any other great ambition for this year. Maybe his knee needs a much-needed rest also.

USO is where he will be motivated again. But ultimate test will be the Sincaraz back to back. Should be fun, it he pulls this one off too

We can't underestimate what confidence means to a top player. With Olympic gold accomplished we don't know whether he is going to coast for the rest of the year or get red hot.

I think the desire is red hot

But at this age, sometimes you have little letdowns that you can't control. See US21

Who says he will have to play them back to back? They will probably be in the same half

He can easily beat Sinner and Alc. Both Carlos and Sinner strugle against players that can serve and return at high level and Novak is the best at it

It’ll be interesting to see how Sinner performs, taking into account his grand slam burnout It is very likely he reaches SF or F at least or If not how severe the burnout since AO is.
