Why would he sack Annacone? He's winning titles, including 2 Masters titles and the WTF in the last 8 months. That's not a bad set of results, coupled with 3 straight Major Semis.

Fed's done winning Majors, but it doesn't mean that Annacone can't help him win some smalller events along the way and stay somewhat competitive at the top.

Nadal is peaking late at the hardcourt slams. Outside of the slams he was winning early in his career. But at the slams, late. So you won't know how many hardcourt slams Nadal wins until he's 30. He's getting better at them with age. He's made 3 of the last 4 hardcourt slam finals. He won the Australian Open in 2009, and then put in an even better performance in 2010 with the US Open. Now he's over the Djokovic curse of 2011- we saw the turning point at the 2012 AO when Nadal matched Djokovic physically. Now he's solved the mental part of it, by winning 3 matches in a row over Djokovic for the loss of just one set. I know you'll say that it doesn't matter, because that was on clay.... But understand this- Djokovic beat Nadal in straight sets twice in 2011. Both were on clay. Nadal reversed that in 2012.

The tide has turned and Nadal will regain the upper hand at the US Open and deliver the aggression of 2010 US Open (which he couldn't do last year, because he injured his foot at Wimbledon vs Del Potro and didn't hit the training courts until the Canada Masters arrived. He said just before the US Open began that he wasn't ready physically, but he'd 'I'll try my best'. He ran out of steam in the final, as expected. That won't happen again. And as we just saw at the Australian Open, the switch is on, and that is a great opportunity for Nadal in 2013. It is Djokovic's best slam, yet it took 6 hours to beat Nadal.

Absolutely agree. Nadal won the USO losing ONE set, and that was in the final. He did not get broken until the SF and that was just the once. That's how good he is on h/c. He's got 2 grass and 2 h/c slams. So much for him being only good on clay.

Yep and equaled Roddick's US Open record of only being broken 5 times in a title-run. His serve is money. And when Nadal won 2008 Wimbledon, Federer only broken the Nadal serve ONCE. And this year it was a great serving display at Roland Garros too, and especially the 4th set on the Monday portion of the final.

It's so funny how Fedfans get so hot under the collar over anything that is not proclaiming him as god. Nadal's fans are cool and fair minded and don't get abusive; they just make their point in a 'colm' and polite manner.

Well, Nadal led the tour in breakpoints saved in 2010. That's the entire year. When his game is on, his serve plays a big role. His backhand can go up and down, even when he's winning. But the serve is usually in fine form when he's winning.

Nadal served great in the Wimbledon final, but he was shaken up by Djokovic. It's the only exception, a case where he served great (statistically) but lost. He didn't serve great on the big points though. Nadal has overcome the mental barrier since then. I think those 4 early wins by Djokovic took Nadal by surprise (especially the Rome match). So in the Wimbledon final, he was a bit more nervous than usual. Uncle Toni mentioned this, that Nadal played nervous on the big points. Doesn't usually in slam finals. Even in the AO final, Nadal hadn't regained his confidence fully. But he got back to his best physically. Now he's got it all going his way, mentally and physically.

Yeah it reminded me of the 2010 US Open. He went for more flat serves than usual at this year's Roland Garros. Even at Halle this week, he reached 136mph in his first match, and averaged 123mph.

Nadal's 2010 USO serve was overrated. It only looked like a weapon because he played worthless opponents. He served just as big at Wimbledon 2011 but the only difference was he actually played quality opponents in that tournament compared to USO 2010.

I'm excited to see what happens at Wimbledon. Nadal is more susceptible to being hit off the court than Djokovic is and if one of the big hitters red lines against him they could win..

problem is Nadal looks so good.. if Nadal keeps this serve up it will be 5 sets and a couple tie-breakers of redline tennis. I dunno if someone like Tsonga or Delpo has the self-belief right now to do that.

In best of 5, Rafa is only matched by Djokovic. Tsonga, Berdych, DelPo might catch fire for a set or two, but it's not sustainable for 5 sets. Even if he draws John Isner, I don't think John can bomb the serve and back it up well enough for 5 sets.

It's going to be Djoker/Rafa part 5, with Rafa taking it (I think).

yeah. I'm aching for an American to win the US Open (or any slam but especially that one).. when Roddick did i didn't really appreciate it as Sampras/Agassi had won 7/13 preceding ones.

I can't imagine what it would be like for a Briton to win Wimbledon.. though the English would have to admit pride in a Scot (I don't know if that's a big deal anymore). GB has such a long slam drought.

Absent a current favorite player I just blindly root for Americans now and would lose it if an American won anything big.
