If tennis doesn't find an American player in the next 3 years it is financially hosed.

Besides Wimbledon, the US marketing engine runs the world, we haven't had a male player since Andy to pitch a sales campaign around. Serena is making more dough doing ads than playing
Emma is a Mad Mans wet dream and yes they still run the world, all those skin crawling Harvey types, so I want focus on the male side of the ledger.
Who can it be? The player I thought would light up the scoreboard with his Hollywood looks is Taylor Fritz but he stalled out so who can sell product because after all that's the bottom line
Maybe Tiafoe with his infectious smile and chiselled bod? No, it's Jenson Brooksby who hasn't won anything literally but looks like he can rock a Ralph Lauren sweater. Or Abercrombie if people still buy their GQ dream. That's a lot of pressure and a lot of practice. But hey Jensen, if Emma can do it, you can too. Good luck, you even have BJ in your corner.

London is often cited as the "marketing capital of the world".

There is a strong cultural and linguistic affinity between nations of the Anglosphere/ Commonwealth/"Five Eyes".

Americans don't really need a "native-born son" to reinvigorate their love for the game.

US Tennis market will be fine. Tennis Warehouse / Nike / Adidas and all other tennis brands have no trouble finding new heroes from other countries to help with their marketing in the US. They can also "reviving" their previous apparel issues - Nike has been very successful with their "heritage court" brand as well as the Agassi "challenge court" revival.

The Afghanistan losers with their demented president became less relevant each day.;)

Here is is the GDP (purchasing power parity) according to the IMF (trillion $):
China 26.7
USA 22.7
EU 20.8
India 10.2
Japan 5.6
Russia 4.3
UK 3.2
So both China and Europe alone are bigger than the USA.

Europe has two slams, the USA only one.
About 75 % of the top players are from Europe, less than 15 from the USA.
The future of tennis lies anywhere but in the USA.

I agree with the last part, but I don’t know what GDP has to do with it. It’s just Americans like basketball and football much much more than tennis. American Football and basketball are not popular outside the US for the most part like tennis is.

I don't know that we have the answer (the exact answer of whom it will be), but American tennis is in a much better place in 2021 than it was in 2020 and 2019. We're starting to get quite a clutter of Americans in the top 100, none of them yet annointed The One™, but certainly a lot more prospects. My money is still on Korda reaching the top 5 and being a genuine major title contender, but it's still too early to feel confident in that prognostication.

Tennis will see a big dip once the GOAT retires, that might happen very soon in 2022 or 2023.

Novak and Nadal cannot carry Tennis forward after the emperor retires,

So yes, the downfall of Tennis in America will be felt bigtime .

Player just needs to speak decent English and be charismatic, why would they need to be American? I mean look at Giannis and Luka, they're going to sell plenty of merch for American companies.

Nobody cares anymore if an American is top dog in tennis, even Americans couldn't care less. I watched many matches live at Indian Wells over the years where Fed played an American and the crowd was always 98% behind Roger. American and Australian dominance of tennis ended long ago.

It’s too late anyway. The sport fell off the cliff in 2019 and it’s not coming back.

Not necesarily. Asia is a massive market now and if China produce a player who dpes well the gsme will have more money. we only need to see the effect of Radacanu and she is not fully chinese.

GDP has a lot to do with "marketing engines".
Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and from now on Raducanu don't make their money in the USA but in Europe and Asia.
The US market is less and less relevant for professional tennis. Even less relevant is whether a new US tennis star will emerge in the next years or not.

Nadal must hang around to save American tennis

https://www.atptour.com/en/news/nadal-medvedev-us-open-2019-attendance-record
Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev's instant classic US Open final helped the season's fourth major set a new attendance mark this year. A record 737,872 fans strolled through the gates in New York, about 5,000 more than last year, to break the prior record of 732,663.

In total, during the past three weeks, 853,227 people attended the tournament, including the US Open Fan Week, which includes qualifying matches.

Nadal beat Medvedev in the five-set final that lasted four hours, 49 minutes to win his 19th major title and second of the season.

I think marketability is overrated
Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are marketable because of how good they are, not because of their looks and personality

In looks and personality, the generation of "new balls please" that was wrecked by FEDAL, like Safin, Haas, Hewitt, Roddick, (+Kuerten who had bad luck with injuries), were much more marketable, but it didn't matter in the end.

All sports have sought to tap into the Chinese market with varying degrees of success. Personally, I think the notion of a Chinese champion (in particular on the men's side) is more of a pipedream than seeing an American emerge but that's me. Where tennis is going to suffer in my opinion is the retirement of the big three which is sooner than later.

I agree about the big 3 point. Indian wells is getti awful figures viewing wise although ill caveat that by sayig we need to wait till next week beflre we can see how big a void the Big 3 are.
I am concerned about the future of tennis if it remains a minority sport in USA.

It doesn't lie in China that's for sure. Their talent is much, much worse than ours.

Can the USTA give Brooksby the best serve coaches?
He has every shot except a good serve, but he is tall, he could have a good serve

Why even mention Emma who is obviously not American?
Anyway, I’ve got some hope for Brooksby. There are quite some US players with decent capabilities in the top 100-200, so I feel they’re going in the right direction.

The important thing is not having a tour dominated by long, tall, spidery dudes. Alcaraz is important. That's the long and short of it.
