If the big four didn't play in any of the 4 grand slams

Lets say if djokovic, federer, nadal and murray didn't play in the next 4 majors next year, who would you pick in the finals and to win?
Mine would probably be,

AO Tsonga over Berdych
FO Del Potro over Ferrer
Sw19 Tsonga over Raonic
USO Del Potro over Gasquet/Tsonga

I think Tsonga and Ferrer would form something of a poor mans Fedal rivalry. Potro and Berdych would round out the top. If Soderling were healthy, I think he would dominate...I felt like he was about to make a big breakthrough before he got injured. I believe he was the last guy to win a 1000 not in the top 4.

Past 5 Masters winners besides them are soderling, roddick, ljubicic, davydenko and nalbandian. Past 5 in grand slam finals are Berdych, soderling, del po, nando gonzalez, roddick

Interresting question. Defniteily those 2nd tier guys after top 4 currently would play F, SF between them - so Ferrer,Tsonga,Berdych, Delpo as in ranking now 5-8 would be 1-4 seeded. Also this 4 guys are better than rest of top 10, top 20

AO - Berdych or Tsonga depending on form. Ferrer is great but someone from those big hitters would overpower him.

Delpo´s fitness in AO heat probably wouldn´t let him to win

RG-Ferrer or Delpo. Not much to say else

Wimbledon - Tsonga-Berdych F i would favour here Berdych, because Tsonga´s ROS really is horrible

USO - Delpo - Tsonga - probably Delpo - he can deal with Tsonga, great H2H vs him, only serve and explosive game has better Jo, but Delpo is more consistent, stronger BH, ROS, deffense

Than 2 guys who can do something - Monfils if healthy and not clowning all the time can do something at RG and Robin if healthy - who knows if he will be back

Really? Murray makes the semis at least in the majority of slams... Delpo is nowhere near as consistent.

Given Murray's consistency in the majors,it's perfectly fair to talk about big 4. He beats everyone else. If we didn't eave him out of this discussion, he's probably win most of the slams.

I don't think we have a big four until Murray actually wins a slam.

Murray is in his own little World. Much below the top 3 until he actually wins a slam (or multiple) but much ahead of everyone else. Then again one of that latter group (Del Potro) even has a slam, along with other past their prime players still dragging out their life on tour (Roddick, Hewitt, Ferrero, Gaudio).

LOL at Murray not being in the "big 4". Take the top 3 away and he's probably going to win 3 of the 4 majors. Maybe even the sweep. He is too good for the rest of the top guys.

Tsonga won Paris in 2008. He's a more recent winner than Nalbandian. Still, this is a revealing statistic. One player retired, one on indefinite disability leave, two who are now in the position of having to congratulate themselves if they can get past the second round of a big event, and one who was just upset in a slam by a journeyman. And these gentlemen are the recent alternatives to the Big Four!
