If we have a grass M1000...

Break To Win

Semi-Pro
Where could it be done?

A friend of mine told me that the city of Halle doesn't have the structure for this.

Queens, I don't think so either.

Theoretically, Eastbourne, for the largest number of courts.

But wouldn't Hamburg have any chance of switching from clay to grass?

Any thoughts about that?

I actually like Eastbourne's centre court much more than Queen's. Looks bigger and more spacious. I could imagine a new grass Masters being located there.

Of course any grass Masters other than at Queen's or Halle would automatically dethrone them as the 2nd most important grass tournaments after Wimbledon so a really tricky one.

Hamburg was once the 3rd claycourt Masters until it was shafted by the ATP in favour of Madrid. Would be interesting to see if the organisers would ever consider replacing its surface in order to try and regain Masters status.

Just restore Hamburg’s MS1000 status and be done with it. It already has the facilities in place and Germany with its rich tennis history has a big event again.
Agreed. Queen's doesn't have the parking facilities for a Masters 1000 and no ability for expansion. Neither does Halle. Hamburg should never have had their event downgraded.

I'm in favor of getting a big event in a country that doesn't have a big event. Hamburg would be great or a new grass event somewhere in Germany.

I'd also be a fan of a masters being played in South America, but ideally this would need to be clay, not grass.

Another M1000 on clay?

The clay has 3 M1000, that's enough.

There could be an ATP Finals in South America, it could be held at the new Parque Roca, that would be fair.

Well, what about Stuttgart? They already have the grass courts, but I have no idea what the facilities are like. Germany would be an ideal location given it's always such a prominent tennis country but has nothing above a 500. Mallorca and Rosmalen are other ready-made places, but I'd guess the latter definitely couldn't handle it, and Spain definitely doesn't need another big one when they already have Madrid.

practicality aside i'd love Eastbourne because it always has such high quality tennis, and the courts and camera angles make for a beautiful viewing experience

I've always thought the Canadian Open (Toronto/Montreal Masters) should switch back to grass, especially since it's leaving the US Open series, is the biggest tournament after Wimbledon, and doesn't really have a strong identity of its own at the moment. Could be a great way to distinguish itself from the many other hardcourt 1000s.

Having a grass masters after Wimbledon is pointless.
