If you could change the outcome of one match

For Del Potro, 2013 IW final. Nice guy, nice game, has a Slam, thought it would have been nice to add a Masters. Still not late hopefully.

For Simon, 2014 Shanghai final. One of the players I really wanted to win a Masters.

For Tipsa, 2012 US Open quarterfinal against David Ferrer, or 2011 WTF RR vs Berdych, massive choke, would have progressed to the semifinal if he won that one.

If I could have changed the outcome of one match, it would have been the 2009 Wimbledon final.

After years of Roddick working, re-tooling his game and facing the toughest field in many years, I wanted him to get just one slam win against Federer.

Probably 2007 AO final. I'd love to see Gonzo with one major under his belt. Fed was pretty much unstoppable, though, being the first since Borg to win a slam without dropping a set.

After that I'd say 1995 USO. That bumps Andre up to nine and gets him out of the Lendl, Conners, Rosewall, Perry pack and it sets Pete back to 13. That puts Nadal in sole possession of the #2 in slams, which I'm ok with.

Lol, if you had your way, poor Novak wouldn't be left with many trophies in his cabinet would he? ;)
Well, you need to remember OP's post says 'one match only'.

This is in order, rather than 'I wish all these could be changed'--in which case my answer would be noticeably different.

It's just a speculation, but I think that he would've won more than 13 Majors - at least 14, cause nobody would've stopped him at RG 1981. That would be a solid case for the Open Era (it's really hard to compare him with the pre-open era players) GOAT imo.

Update: Although I think that Fed would still have his arguments for that status, the difference between these two would've been much smaller than it's today.
if Borg had completed the 4 in a row and then stuck around and won another FO giving him a 7/5/3/1/1 split at all the biggest events across polarized surfaces I would have him as GOAT narrowly ahead of Fed.

If Agassi had won the 95 USO I think he would have gotten to close to 12 slams.

Pete might have had more too. 96-98 was a fairly weak era but Andre was MIA because he lost the USO final and went on his downward spiral and Pete's motivation was waning because he had no more challenges. If Andre wins the 95 USO that changes the game quite a bit for both players.

I totally overlooked that it would've been five in a row for Borg, because Roland Garros was the first Major in a year back then...so yeah...putting him slightly above Roger sounds logical.

^^^^ It just shows what a great player Djokovic is that he's irrelevant to you Nadal fans and yet has the better overall resume. ;)

Wimbledon 2012 men's final. Murray had it won until the weather gods intervened and they closed the roof. Fed didn't deserve it.
That was usual Murray. Great out of the blocks against Federer and Djokovic, but ends up stumbling once they warm up and raise their level.
His real shot is in not giving Fedovic the chance to start playing well. Once they do, it ends up being routine.

I actually have a lot of matches in mind.

Wimb 2008 final. Fed wins that one and he goes on to win both Wimb and the AO and has GOAThood secured without any furhter debate. Also Wimb GOAT, as well as winning 7 Wimb titles in a row from 2003 to 2009.

USO 2009 final to win the NCYGS together with the following slams. Also it would make 2009 another 3 slam season. Also USO GOAT, as well as winning 6 straight USO titles from 2004 to 2009.

AO 2005 SF. He wins it, he wins the title and goes on to have another 3 slam season. And overall 4 consecutive 3 slam seasons.

Rome 2006 final and MC 2014 final. He wins these 2 matches, he wins everything in tennis. Period.

Lol Fed fans are so hurt over the little handful of close matches he lost.

Well aren't you a greedy boy md! :)

Which match would you choose? This match won't alter the course of history so just one match.
I'd either go for the 2007/2011 Wimbledon finals or the 2012 AO one. I think I'd go for the AO as it would have given Rafa a double career grand slam. What would you choose?
This is a tough one. I would probably have to go for Cincy 2015 final.

It was either AO 2014 and 2017 (7 consecutive AO's, baby!), USO 2012-2014, or Wimbledon 2016

06 RG. 7 slams in a row.

Should've won that final too. Outplayed Nadal in 2/3 sets but ended up 2-1 down after very unluckily squandering 0-40 on Nadal's serve.

Same thing happened in 2011 final. Played the better tennis for 3 sets but ends up 2-1 down.

As a Rafa fan, I'm surprised you say 2007. It made 2008 that much more meaningful that Nadal narrowly lost that 2007 match.

Here's how I see it for each of the top 4:
For Rafa: 2011 Wimbledon against Ultron (this could have changed their H2H and probably helped him in some subsequent battles with Novak in 2011-12).
For Fed: Any FO against Rafa. Maybe 2006 (where he gave Nadal a breadstick in the first set). A win here would have taken the monkey off of Fed's back in several ways and he would have approached all of their subsequent clay encounters with loads more conflidence.
For Djokovic: tie: USO 2007 or FO 2013. Beating Fed near his prime and ending his streak while winning his first major (which he'd ultimately do a few months later anyway) would have been monumental. But of course defeating Rafa in that epic 2013 match would have been sweet.
For Murray: 2012 Wimbledon against Fed. He was crushed after this match but as with Nadal 2007, a loss here made a championship that much sweeter the following year.

Without a shadow of a doubt for me it would be Hewitt winning Australian Open 2005 final so he could celebrate with his home fans and have that honour there.
