If you could have changed the result one match. Which match will it be

What irks you more? Novak's second Wimbledon or Nadal's early exits last three years?

Neither  because I had the same day, week, month, year, and life that I would have had regardless. You should try to do the same instead of crying over losses from over a year ago ;)
The only loss that bothered me was Darcis because Rafa wasn't even trying. Fire was just out that day.

2009 AO to Federer.

Now instead his tears would be the second time he cried after winning the AO, which would really kill the idiotic anti-Federites. Nastall loses his only AO title to this point, and the first time he'd have beaten Federer in a slam off clay would then be the 2012 AO, when Federer was 30. Federer would have 5 AO titles, the most in the open era.

Wimbledon 2008?

Loads......

2016 Australian Open final - Murray beats Djokovic
2015 Wimbledon final - Federer beats Djokovic
2012 Olympic final - Federer beats Murray
2012 Wimbledon final - Murray beats Federer
2011 French Open final - Federer beats Nadal
2009 Wimbledon final - Roddick beats Federer
2002 US Open final - Agassi beats Sampras

If the above happened the slam count changes as below:

Federer stays on 20 (with Gold medal)
Nadal goes from 17 to 16
Sampras goes from 14 to 13
Djokovic goes from 12 to 10
Agassi goes from 8 to 9
Murray goes from 3 to 5 (drops a Gold medal)
Roddick goes from 1 to 2

If you don't change the title outcome but you employ the butterfly effect I would go as follows:

2018 Australian Open - Federer beats Djokovic in SF instead of Chung
2016 Olympics - Murray beats Nadal in final instead of Del Potro
2016 Wimbledon - Murray beats Federer in final instead of Raonic
2016 French Open - Djokovic beats Nadal in SF instead of Thiem
2014 Wimbledon - Federer beats Nadal in SF instead of Raonic
2012 Wimbledon - Murray beats Nadal in Wimbledon SF instead of Tsonga
2009 French Open - Federer beats Nadal in final instead of Soderling
2006 US Open - Federer beats Nadal in final instead of Roddick

Would improve various head to head records with the top guys and for the most part the new matches would generate more interest than the matches that happened. However too many variables doing that.

wimbledon 2008, closely followed by rome 2006
Why Rome 2006? I get that Fed’s never won Rome but it’s just a masters.

Wimbledon 2008 and AO 2009 or USO 2009 should be the ones from a Fed fan perspective imo. AO 2009 because losing to Rafa in the manner that he did was embarrassing and USO 2009 because had he won that he would have 6 USO titles which would surpass Connors and Sampras.

more like what it might have meant down the road, i also think it was one of the best fedal matches in general and i'm not too keen on that match up, find it rather overrated but rome 2006 was great display of clay court tennis and iirc fed did have mps or was very close to winning so i do wonder had he won that, what it might have meant when he faced rafa next on clay. it might have have meant nothing but i do always wish he could win that match.

i'm okay with roger losing USO 2009. wimbledon 2008 imo will always go down as roger's toughest loss despite him crying at AO, i always felt like wimbledon 2008 crushed him more in some ways.

I have a few that I would change:

1984 FO final. I was a huge Mac fan back then. When Mac went up by 2 sets over Lendl, I though that he might come close to going undefeated that year. But !endl pulled off a miraculous comeback. Mac still has the best winning percentage ever by going 82-3 that year. But had Mac won that match, then he likely picks up the CYGS while going 90-2.

2006 FO final. If Fed wins that match, then he goes 93-4 in 2006. That also means that he would have won 7 straight slam events.

2009 Wimbledon final. Roddick deserves a Wimbledon title. I am a fan of Andy. And Fed originally ticked me off when he stole Andy’s thunder. But Fed eventually won me over.

OP didn’t said that, It’s only the result of a match we can change, We don’t know how it will affect the future

This is the title:

"If you could have changed the result one match. Which match will it be"

This is the OP:

As the title suggests which result would you change.

I would change 2009 Wimbledon final because I think Andy deserves another slam and that was the closest he had gone to beat Fed in a GS

I take it as to have a 'god-moment' to change 1 result, with the advantage of being from the future (year 2018). To me, everything else stays the same bc the OP poster didn't say otherwise.

Make of it what you will. :)

No guarantees McEnroe wins the CYGS, Same for Federer

I think the AO 2017 final will go down as one of the most important match in tennis history.

Had Nadal won the match, it would be 19-18 in slam count with Nadal having another 3 GS year.

Correct. Everything before and after the match stay the same.

AO09. Because I felt Fed should have won it as he was playing better throughout the match except the important moments like break points and fifth set. One can see what I am saying if they look at the match stats or highlights. Total points won stand 174-173 in Fedr's favour even after taking a beating in the fifth set(6-2). So one can imagine total points won till 4th set would have been much more in Fed's favour.. the reason behind that being him taking Nadal to a lot of break points but not being able to convert(Nadal too clutch). Fed had better service games and then he chocked in one of them and gave the break to Nad. Nadal deserved it for being better on important points but it could have gone Fed's way had he not chocked in the 1st and 3rd set. Also if Fed had won this match maybe he would have won the CYGS.

2011 US Open Semi final - Fed vs Novak. just have Novak miss that saved match put and get Fed into the Final against Nadal so we could finally have that USO fedal match up and both of them be in great form.
Novak was in God mode.

French Open 2015 or US Open 2016 for me personally.

Can’t believe Stan has beaten Novak in TWO slam finals.

2015 FO final was big surprise and unexpected but 2016 US Open final outcome wasnt at all.Djokovic had easy path to the final - few of his opponents either retired or didnt even play against him and he got Monfis in the SFs.Stan was supposed to win this match based on the current form of the both players

I know the thread is about one match but I will mention 2 matches

1.US Open final 2009 - Because Fed would have won US Open for 6th time in a row which will be something that no other tennis player in the Open era have done.
2.Wimbledon 2014 final - Firstly because it would have been epic if Federer won this match after being down 5-2 in the 4th set.And secondly because it could have helped him mentally when he met Djokovic in 2015 GS finals.

2014 AO: Djok edges Wawrinka instead of losing. Would have earned him 6 AO in a row and put him in the same category of Rafa at RG.
2015 RG oh how I wish Djokovic could have won that. CYGS, 6 in a row, 2 Slams everywhere, GOAT by long shot

Other than Djokovic, I wish Nadal actually showed up to Wimbledon in 2013 and beat Darcis. That was before his massive 2014-16 slump and he could have easily won or reached the final (I rooted for Murray to win that one)

Because rome 2006 victory could have changed the entire path and dimensions of Fedal rivalry...
It was that important...

Australian Open 2017 Final.
If only he'd held onto that break :(

Fed was on fire that day. After choking first game, he was literally dragging nadal to multiple breakpoints in each of nadal service game...

Ao 2012 followed closely by Ao 2017.
AO 2012 was such an epic match.

What Novak did in that tournament is one of the most impressive feats in tennis. He beat Murray in 4 hours and 58 minutes then he beat Nadal who had an extra day of rest in 5 hours and 53 minutes.

Incredible from both men but especially by Novak.

Novak was in God mode.
Serving at 5-3 40-15 it was nothing but a Fed choke at its absolute best. If you believe that the match was on Novak's racquet then I don't know what to say.
Hell Roger could have blasted one of his golden aces. He could have won it easily without making things complicated.
Novak hit one winner in that game. It was on Fed's racquet and he fckued up.. It's simple as that.

He could have bombed down the T, which is always the low-risk approach.

AO 2017 or AO 2012

It would give Rafa the double career slam and he would be on 18 right now. In the case of 2017 it would also mean that Fed would be on 19 and the slam gap would be 1.

I would only change the result of the 10 Grand Slam finals that Federer lost so far.
And the Olympic Gold Medal match winner of 2012.
My life would be so different if that was possible.
Yeah, I know. You said only one match, but I have problems in following rules.

Edit: leave 2009 US Open final result as is.

Absolutely man. He could have done any of the Roger Federer stuff. He could have gone with a body serve and then volleyed on a weak return from Novak. There were thousands of different options. Whenever I watch the highlights of that match it hurts to watch him choke like that.
