If you could have chosen one match in history to watch in person..

Which would it be?

Maybe you won some sweepstakes to attend and get front row seats, or a friend randomly message you saying they had an extra ticket.

Honestly, I would have loved to watch the AO '17 Final in person. The quality was phenomenal and though as a Fed fan I would have been super stressed throughout the match, I would have been overly ecstatic by the end.

I watched the AO 17 final in person. The atmosphere was through the roof, like nothing I have experienced before. Believe me, the tv just did not do it justice and nothing I say can properly explain it. It's all surreal now.

Personally, I would love to watch the 1980 Borg McEnroe final at Wimbledon.

NOOOOOH!!!! I wanted to top myself after that final.
My choice: Pancho Gonzales vs. Charlie Pasarell 1969 Wimbledon: Gonzales won 9-11, 3-6, 16-14, 6-3, 11-9. No tie breaks! In the 5th set Pancho was 4-5 and 0-40. After 7 deuces - 5 all. Same situation at 5-6 when Pasarell had more match points, but lost the last 11 games. See Love Game, by Elizabeth Wilson

It comes down to Safin's final two matches at 2005 Australian Open. I guess the semifinal would be my choice. For Djokovic I witnessed exactly what I hoped for. These two are probably my top 2 favs so that's why I mentioned them only.

2001 Wimbledon semi - Goran was my favourite player, but I'm British, I cheered Henman on every match he played at Wimbledon. Watching it at home was intense and stirred up some weird feelings. The somersaults, the knot twists, I can't imagine how much more intense it would have been had I been there.

Maybe odd not to pick a Murray final, but most of his big wins he was the better player from the off, so they weren't so dramatic.

Recent times: Wimby 2008, 2014, AO 2009 - they're probably the only "big" matches I've not seen

Also: Wimby 2001 Final & R4, US Open 2001 QF

1. 2010 USO final. Just watching it now. One of Rafa's most breathtaking performances.
2. 2008 Roland Garros Final - Amazing is putting it mildly
3. 2009 Australian Open SF - Nadal vs Verdasco. One of the greatest matches of all time
4. 2008 Wimbledon Final - The greatest match ever played.
5. 2013 Acapulco Final Nadal vs Ferrer - Coming back from 7 months of being sidelined with injury, Nadal gave Ferrer a master class.

Laver's best match. Not sure what that would be, but whatever it is, I'd love to see it.

Perhaps the 1972 WCT final vs. Rosewall? Or the 1969 AO SF vs. Roche? Both would have been amazing to attend.

My personal choice might be something even earlier: Budge-von Cramm in the Davis Cup in the late 1930s.

What I love about the old Masters is how serve and volley was a consistent and practical gameplan for them. Because they didn't put as much emphasis on the serve and kicked it, the return wouldn't come back as fast, and they could get to net and hit a proper first, second, then third volley to finish the point. It was a developed art, the way baseline play today has become a refined strategy. The crispness of hearing the ball bounce of the strings of their wooden rackets is surreal. I feel like Edberg was the blood relative of this type of serve & volleyer, then Rafter. Players like Stitch, Sampras, Ivanisevic, Kracijek were phenomenal power players with big serves. Their purpose was to get an easy put away volley. But Rocket Rod was propelling himself towards the net because he wanted to stay there.

Hamburg 1993- April 30th. QF- Seles vs Maleeva.

I'd like to be there in order to stop one of the biggest tragedies in the history of the sport. If I could just get some increased security for Seles through any means necessary, we might've been able to witness a great rivalry in Seles v. Graf and maybe even crown a new GOAT in Seles. 8 GS before 20. Such a shame she couldn't continue that dominance.

If it is a GS besides a Finals, it would be AO SF 2009 Between Nadal and Verdasco.

If it is a GS Finals, Wimbledon 2008.

If it is a non GS match, ROME 2006 Finals

Australian Open 2017 without a doubt. It was like a Hollywood scriptwriter took control of reality for two weeks. I'm annoyed that I live in town and this was all happening a couple of miles down the road from me. Even a crappy seat in the back row would have been worth it to soak up the atmosphere. This was Ali beating Foreman, Zidane winning the world cup for France, Borg on his knees at Wimbledon. Historical. Emotional. Fantastical. Transcendental. Dramatical.

I don't want to put the obvious choices, so I select these 3 matches:
-2012 Wimbledon F: Federer vs Murray
-2001 Wimbledon 4R: Sampras vs Federer
-2016 Davis Cup F: Cilic vs Del Potro

Connors v. Krickstein 91 Open. Cheating a bit since I did get to watch it in Flushing , but man I'd give anything to do it again. One of the greatest sports experiences I've been apart of.
