If you had a chance to create your own frame....

What would be the ingredients of your perfect frame? Given a once-off opportunity to create your own racquet what would be the final spec sheet. No ranges on parameters, exact figures please. Won't go into drill pattern and material lay up. This will be final racquet specs with no mods later beyond overgrip and dampener.

I will start:

Headsize: 98 square inches
Length: 27 inches
Beam Width: 20mm straight beam
Beam Shape: Box Beam
Balance: 9 HL
Flex: 60
Strung Swingweight: 340
Strung Weight: 360g
String Pattern: 16 X 19
Colour: Darth Black

^Sir, you forgot balance.

Headsize: 98-100in²;
Length: 27.5in;
Beam: I don't care the slightest;
Flex: 65-68;
Strung SW: Between 320 and 330;
Strung weight: 325g (for a nice 330g with OG), around 305/310g unstrung;
Balance: 6pts HL;
String Pattern: 16x19;
Colour: Not too ugly please.

Preference goes for a stable frame with a big sweetspot. I guess the two closest things to this are either the PD+ or the APD+, but they are a bit stiffer. Or Angell frames but you can't control SW, but the price is good for custom racquets.

Hi Lukhas,

Not exact matches in all of the specs you want, but that sounded kind of like the 2003 version of the Babolat Pure Control Plus. I looked it up out of curiosity. It's a pretty good match on length, flex, head size, and sw. (27.5, 68ra, 98sq, 332sw). It's fairly close everywhere else: 16x20 pattern, -10pts hl, weight 337. So it's 12 grams heavier overall, but most of that extra mass is near the handle. Swapping out the stock base grip with something lighter could bridge that gap a bit.

Don't know if your brand preference is limited to Babolat, but there is also the Wilson nPro Open X, PK 7G, Wilson HPS SurgeX 5.1, and Yonex MP-5i HS in that general vicinity as well.

My "Dreamin" racquet would be something like this:

Head: 98-102sq in.
Length: 27"
Beam Width: Any, but prefer slim to thick
Beam Shape: Any
Balance: 6-12 points hl
Flex: 55 - 62
Strung Swingweight: 310-325 (Room for lead and matching to around 330)
Strung Weight: As low as possible, as dictated by sw and balance (Room for lead and matching to around 12.3 - 12.6 oz)
Pattern: 18x16, 18x15, 16x16, 16x15
Color: Not a big deal, anything in Blue, Red, Black would be cool.

It would be solid core, or foam filled, it would have full caps style grommets. Head rectangular grip shape. Would come stock with a leather grip. A not too flashy paint job with decals that don't chip. If anybody has a foam filled PT57a in a 18x16 drill pattern give me a ring LOL.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Actually my brand preference isn't limited to Babolat; it's just that they're among the only ones who seem to release extended length racquets on a regular basis, because some of what could've been interesting frames to try are long discontinued and hard to find. Even if I haven't seen any extended length version of the 2014 frames, which is quite disappointing. I would've tried a 7G if they were available in Europe, but I'm afraid they're not. In fact, there are little Pro Kennex frames at TWE. But thank you for the pointers.

the pro staff 100 spin isn't a constant beam or 18x18 pattern. it's 16x15 and isn't nearly as heavy. not trying to shoot down the post but nothing like what i said. i was looking for a slightly longer pog oversize that's a little more headlight, more closed pattern and a littler firmer feeling. the pro staff is more like a toy for a slice and dice master. never hit a heavy ball with it ever even with mods

Say, besides the stiffness and slightly higher SW, the Classic Graphite 100 LB isn't far from my ideal specs. Granted it's much softer, but given that the SW is of about 334, stability should be there anyway. Too bad that being a stud' equals being broke, it would've been quite something to try.

I prove everytime I hit with that racket that even 5'10" 215lb guys with a bum knee can be effective... I used be be 240 :)

Yeah, I hear ya. Taking a saw to a racquet is a task many would rather skip if at all possible. But just thought I'd toss out a friendly fyi : Trimming a frame from 28 to 27.5 would cut quite a bit more than 4 sw units. It depends upon the mass, sw and balance, of the racquet, but it's almost always about 9-10 units for every .25 inches, so we're looking at about 18-20 for a half inch. You can figure this out more precisely using the parallel axiom theory, or you can use the online tool based on that equation, found in the members only section of the United States Racquet Stringer's Association.

For some folks who like to tinker though, trimming a frame opens up all sorts of opportunities for adding lead back to the hoop in just the right places, and just the right amount. It gives you much more swingweight "wiggle room" to fine tune/season with lead than one would expect.

@ChicagoJack: What I meant is that the SW is off by 4 points, and such a minimal amount isn't worth cutting a frame. If it was such an issue, I'd rather buy another frame than spend my time cutting it and customizing it for such a ridiculously low difference. I know that it would lower the SW much more; I don't think it's worth it in such a case.

If I could make my own racket it would cost a fortune and what would I have when I done. Maybe a racket I like maybe not but I would have a mold and big oven to bake the racket in. Not to mention how difficult it would be to drill holes equally spacing on each side of the racket and make the grommets.

With TW's racket finder I could find racket that may meet what I think they want to demo them. When I find what I want buy one and create my own unique paint scheme then put the grommets back in.
