Iga signing with ON is a miss for Lacoste....

I can't find the details of the ON-Iga deal, but I'm pretty sure they went all out after her, outbidding Lacoste.... Although Swiatek negotiating with Lacoste are merely rumors, its a no-brainer, since Lacoste and her racquet brand, Tecnifibre, are both owend by the same Group. What I've heard from inside, is that what Lacoste is looking for, is that, whenever possible, you can see Tecnifibre players are dressed with Lacoste. They missed big, they couldve had Iga w the Tecnifibre-Lacoste, along with Medvedev.

Anyone know the details about Iga's contract? Im sure that it is a number that Lacoste werent up to match or come close to it, that is why Im speculating that it must be a very significant, almost unheard of figure.

It is a huge gamble for ON, in that sense (it reminds me of, yes, ON's major partner Federer's deal w Uniqlo), they DO have possibly the most dominant womens player for the next couple or more years, but if sales dont back up this huge investment, might be trouble, to say the least....

It is weird that they werent ready with the shoes, and at least to me, clothes are just... meh..... Its like she just changed logos, but clothes look kinda the same as before.

I wouldve loved to see Iga with LACOSTE gear. They were beaten to the punch.

I’ll say this, the ON clothing is terrible. She would have had a better image in Lacoste.

Maybe she doesn’t behave bad enough on court. Lacoste seems to like good players who can’t control their emotions on court - like Djokovic and Medvedev.

what good is it ? normal average people can't afford any of the stuff inclding the shoes

Uniqlo is an apparel manufacturer, while ON is a shoe manufacturer. See: Djokovic with Lacoste apparel and Asics shoes.

Thats what I find so weird.... ON is not even ready with Igas shoes.... shes basically just wearing their logo, no ON tennis apparel for sale anywhere...

Can’t really seen an issue here - sportsperson’s career can be short, if “unlucky”, so it makes all the sense to grab as better a sponsorship deal as possible.
Maybe Tecnifibre/Lacoste wanted to offer a multi package deal, and therefore they weren’t able to match ON’s single sponsorship deal… who knows.
As for the shoe issue, maybe she is getting them FOC atm, while ON makes one for her. Similar to GM and his Artengo shoes. Lol

You are not that far off, Lacoste was never in the market as they don't think she is not interested enough according to them

The Tecnifibre brand is completely dwarfed by the Lacoste one, so that connection is not really significant when Lacoste chooses whom to sponsor. And imo, Iga is not really on brand, esp compared to the WTA players the do sponsor. Just my 2 cents.

Iga finally off the gel res

Lacoste will be alright. The biggest loser on the Iga bandwagon was Prince.
Prince is not sponsoring players anymore. But that’s true, they had her and Pouille in 2018 as their main players and could sign her for multiple years for laughable money. But well, it’s gone.
And by the way Lacoste has no top WTA player so Iga could have been a great addition even if she doesn’t fit their blonde girl image.

Good point, plus they’re pouring money into djokovic I’m sure
Considering they are pouring money to Djokovic and Medvedev - they don’t care about marketability too much and they don’t care about the return of investment :D

welp spoke too soon.. but seriously, how hard is it to knock off a gel res? so much for Swiss engineering rofl

Designing apparel is fairly easy. A company like Zara drops new fashion outfits every two weeks, or less. However, designing good shoes is much, much tougher. Athletic shoes require more R&D, different materials, and more testing to get them right, plus great marketing to get people to try them. That's why a company like Under Armour could launch into the marketplace quickly selling t-shirts and underwear, but have struggled to consistently produce good shoes (especially in tennis). Even their most successful shoe ever (Steph Curry's basketball shoe) bombed out as they made new versions (that ended up looking like nursing shoes). The bigger the company, the more resources they have to put into shoe design and the better they can withstand an expensive failed shoe launch (like Adidas writing off the Yeezy's or Nike holding back on the Morant line after Ja got himself into trouble).

In the case of On, they are a small niche running shoe company with no experience in designing a tennis shoe, almost zero apparel, and a tiny marketing department. I like their underdog story, which is kind of like where Nike was in the early 1970s. But like Nike back then, it's no surprise that they are struggling to get the product right, especially when it's outside of what their original focus was. I think they took a big swing in landing Iga, the #1 player in the world. Her personality and work ethic probably matches the Swiss mentality. I'm sure she is compensated well, which is probably a huge chunk of whatever On's sports marketing budget is. (I also presume she might have gotten stock instead of cash, so she has a high upside stake in their future.) However, it remains to be seen if this translates into On being a brand that people associate with tennis more than running, or that the tennis sales will cover the expenses they've incurred by jumping into the sport. Right now, their supply chain seems abysmal and it's hard for consumers to find product consistently.

Lacoste should’ve signed Rybakina after she left Adidas. Would’ve been a good fit for both sides.

kontaveit was their top 10 until she just retired this year

She wears those for PR events; what's the reason she still wears the old Asics during matches?

Obviously she still feels more comfortable w the Asics than the ON.

Terrible look for ON. (Yes, must be tough to match a very well established tennis shoe brand, but cmon.... get your sht together ON-Team!)

I don't think this is a "terrible look" for ON. I'm sure they would prefer her to make the switch immediately, but the ON shoes she is wearing look like a new unreleased model. They will likely sync up the release of the shoe with her wearing them in actual matches.

Lacoste will be fine. This lady is always whining and complaining about something.

Smart choice to invest money on the men's side, which gets more views.

Finally wearing them on court..... its ON now!

Lacoste apparently is trying to mirror the new AG ultras to the aasics speeds. Maybe in hopes to get djokovic to switch. Hearing good things on the new ultras

He build the his shoe with asics right.. so doubt a normal version would have him change brands
I mean I don’t think he will. Med is full on lacoste /TF train lol. What I’m saying is the new AG ultra are similar to the ASICS from what many have confirmed. It wouldn’t be a shock if lacoste tried to woo him away from ASICS.

Did I see iga with the ON shoes ? Maybe I’m late to the party
