Iga Swiatek receives doping ban after positive test for banned substance trimetazidine

Guys, hackers were able to get this info, I don't know the truth of the matter, these are the accusations ;

Dubious accusations against Lewandowski and Swiatek

According toFocus, the leaked data also includes a doping result for football star Robert Lewandowski. According to the report, the Polish international tested positive for anabolic steroids on March 12, 2022 after FC Bayern's match against TSG Hoffenheim.

Five-time Grand Slam winner and current world number 1 in women's tennis, Iga Swiatek, is also said to have tested positive. Following her Wimbledon 2021 loss to Ons Jabeur, she is said to have been found to be using the banned doping substance erythropoietin. Numerous other Polish athletes also appear in the data leak.

Does Iga Swiatek getting caught with banned substance TMZ, lend credence to the accusation that she also took erythropoietin back in 2021?

Disgusting and the fact they banned her for a month in December with no major tournaments is just the icing on the corruption cake.

I would love to solely blame the players but the way they've covered for both her and Sinner by delaying their respective reveals is worse. Look at what happened to Halep in contrast, where is the consistency?

Unacceptable doping allegation. Reported.
Yawn.
It is very fair to ask the question at this point.
Of course it is, but in the infantile world of today's sports fandom, there's just no way other top tennis players in 2024--with the state of sports medicine being what it is--could be using PEDs. If Halep, and now Swiatek have been caught, its not a stretch to hypothesize that top male players such as Alcaraz are also using.

LOL... you really hate Alcaraz eh...

The authorities. We were very close to having the number one player in both leagues banned for years.

They clearly don't want to do that. It would destroy tennis.

Tennis would be just fine. Alcaraz is the biggest thing in the game right now and there are tons of good players the fans want to see.

Sinner is just an emotionless baseline robot out there…he could be replaced by anyone and most wouldn’t care.

They would not care about any of them if they were replaced. No current player not named Djokovic is some transcendent star / known to the general public (and its partially questionable with Djokovic, too). None are household names or the subjects of "must see" sports during the year.

I agree mostly except for Alcaraz. He has produced some incredible tennis that rivals anything or tops what I have seen since I stated watching tennis in 1994. Also, his personality and his love of the game really comes through when he plays which makes him special to watch.

They then wouldn't be able to do the same thing for Carlos the Shepherd if he gets caught doping.

The ITIA has announced the suspension of Iga Swiatek for testing positive for trimetazidine, a substance banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. A case that surprised the world of tennis, but which was quickly resolved thanks to the demonstration of accidental contamination.

THE SUBSTANCE
Trimetazidine is a drug used to treat angina pectoris, which improves blood flow to the heart. In the Polish case, the substance was present in a regulated, over-the-counter drug in Poland, a type of melatonin used to treat jet-lag insomnia.

THE REACTION OF THE WTA
The WTA immediately took a stand with a statement of support for the world number 2: “The WTA fully supports Iga in this difficult moment. He has always demonstrated a strong commitment to fair play and the defense of the principles of clean sport. This unfortunate incident highlights the challenges athletes face when using medications and supplements."

THE SHAPOVALOV CONTROVERSY
Denis Shapovalov, already a critic of the Sinner case, raised doubts about the unequal treatment: “It's not fair that players like Halep and others have had such long suspensions for similar things. I'm happy that things are changing because the anti-doping rules are unfair, but players like Ymer remain suspended without ever testing positive."

The usual Shapovalov who speaks out of turn.
Then one wonders how such a talent is throwing his career in the garbage, with this brain he has he is absolutely coherent.
He and Kyrgios invoke justicialism when together they don't match the IQ of a normal person.

I find a lot of people who don't look smart or don't look sophisticated and just think simple are the ones who can be trusted and not afraid of speaking about injustice. (i.e., the grassroot people)

People who look sophisticated, who belong in the top elite circle, who speak smartly, or look smart are the ones who often can't be trusted. (i.e., politicians and elite corrupt people, tycoon, dictator, etc)

No, the problem is that profiles like Shapovalov and Kyrgios read the headlines of various news and judge without informing themselves, ergo, they speak out of turn without knowing.
Unlike, for example, a Ruud who first documented himself on the Sinner case by reading all the papers of the first instance sentence of the independent tribunal, and only later had his say on the matter.

Ruud has proven often that he is a wise head and a gentleman. Thankfully, he is not the only one. Reading and understanding a longer and complex text requires some effort, and not all are willing to put in the work.

Sharapova was just voted into the Hall of Fame, so guess they don't really care about PEDs.
A pretty different situation with Sharapova. She took meldonium for a long time, it was added to the list of banned substances on 1 January 2016, and she tested positive at the 2016 Australian Open. Sharapova called a press conference in March 2016 to announce that she was would not be playing Indian Wells and to announce the news about her positive test. She got an initial 2 year ban for that, reduced to 15 months on appeal. Swiatek and Sinner have had kid gloves treatment by comparison. Was it because Sharapova still represented Russia, and hadn't switched to the USA?

ITIA's decision was wrong according to the rule.

I support Shapo and Kyrgios for voicing their concerns about double standards in tennis.

I never support people who are tested positive in doping and I don't believe in any excuses they made.

Some of the "excuses" are true. See Coria (nandrolone in multi-vitamin without it being listed on the label) and Canas (given medicine with a banned substance on the court in Acapulco by an ATP trainer).

After her time is served, I'm sure everyone here will be decent about the whole thing.

Seriously though, what the hell is a one month ban supposed to be? Does the ban at least take effect in January, or is she being banned from... Exhibitions?
I mean, if it takes place starting in the next week or so it might eat into the warm up wta events in Aus.

She will miss nothing. She has only 8 days left to serve. WADA needs to appeal this decision to CAS.

Iga Swiatek has eight days remaining on her one-month suspension because she was provisionally suspended from September 12 to October 4, 2024, due to a positive drug test for trimetazidine (TMZ). This provisional suspension counts towards her total suspension period. The remaining eight days will be served while there are no competitions, allowing her to return to play on December 4, 2024

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) determined that Swiatek's positive test resulted from the unintentional contamination of melatonin, a nonprescription medication she used for sleep issues related to jet lag.

They classified her level of fault as "at the lowest end of the range for no significant fault or negligence," which contributed to the relatively short duration of her suspension

Yep, because they are not afraid to be themselves and don't hide anything cause they don't care what you think.

LOL. We got a tour of drug addicts. Just legalize it already . This is so stupid. Everyone is doping. You think all these pro athletes are taking flintstone vitamins to keep up with all this physicality year after year? Gimme a break

We will see if some more have the basic decency to at least read the ITIA report and to try to process it. Maybe somebody has learned a least that after floods of embarrassing posts after the Sinner case.

Some time ago I wrote that contamination is becoming an ever bigger problem for professional athletes as there is a very simple formula: more of more sensitive tests of more substances will result in far more false positives in the sense of doping. In short the great development of making doping more difficult will naturally also taint more players innocent of it.
It's called doping, not contamination. You lack skepticism and critical thinking if you simply believe their ad hoc excuses of contamination. No matter how small the dosis is, it's always more likely the result of intentional doping than of a supposed contamination.

According to the report the agency found that the other untampered, sealed melatonin medication she had also contained cross-contamination with TMZ. The manufacturer also makes TMZ so cross-contamination in the factory seems plausible. Pretty solid explanation. Idk why people are treating this as a capital offense.

Looks a little too preposterous to me, honestly. BUT, if this was true, and there was a problem in the production line, you would expect to find several boxes of melatonina contaminated and not just the 1 Iga took, right? I hope Ltia brings very good and solid evidence to back up their decision, otherwise the whole story risk to end up in farce.
