I'm a Fed fan, and I'm kind of upset that Nole lost in today OG semis

I don't understand how I’m a bit upset about that.
On top of it, I did not like the way he lost: leading 6/1 and 3/2 after breaking Zverev's serve.
I could not watch the match really, so I could not have an impression about how they played throughout the match .
Also to be mentioned, I don't like Nole much, but I wished he won.
I can't understand myself. Somebody feeling the same?
I think I will still root for him at the USO, unless he faces Federer.

Djokovic in the middle of the 2nd set, lost his 1st serve and that meant Zverev could "T" off on the return and put pressure instantly on Djokovic's game! After that, Djokovic lost 9 out 10 of his last games played and lost the 3rd set 1-6!

Don't worry. He got his OG.

Anyone who isn't just a gloryhunter or a blind fanboy knows that without Joe or Ned, there's no point in watching this crapola era anymore. Once they're truly gone, we'll only have repeats of the USO 2014/2020 all year.

I am only interested in repeats from 2003 to 2007. Spare me the rest.

I can understand feeling that way, particularly if he showed a lot of emotion after the match and you knew how much it meant to him.

I didn't see the match, but how was he after it? When he lost in Rio he was inconsolable and that tugs at the heartstrings of anyone.

Shapavalov has an exciting game, if he can clean his errors and weed off the choking at big moments.

He won't fix sheet. Best case scenario, he vultures something big with a depleted draw. No one waits to "unleash" their talent, if he had such a great game, he would've put it to good use already. Outside of Fedalovic, the tour has been a mess for a really long time. What's his excuse for not bagging at least 5 titles already? I'm not even talking about slems, I mean winning anything. All signs are pointing towards one of the lanky dudes vulturing a major without having to beat a top 2 guy. In other words, they're playing the waiting game. So lame.

Shapo is a nothing in the grand slam scheme of things.

Yes. I had the same reaction. I wanted him to win. I will never root for Z.

Ever heard of Wawrinka?

I’m a Fed fan, too, and I was kind of disappointed that he lost. The only reason for my disappointment is that I really wanted to see history be made. After he won Wimbledon, I actually wanted to see the golden slam be completed. Not sure if I will ever see it now.

If Nole had won his 2nd Olympics' Bronze, I'm sure his fans would've tried making it a GOAT statistic somehow.

But you said nobody "waits to unleash their talent" about Shapovalov. Here you have someone who did regardless of what he's doing now.

Not even young Stan was as erratic as DS. Not to mention he had a non geriatric version of Fedalovic standing in his way. As I said, it's a pretty safe bet that he's gonna win something at some point, but for now, he's still just another hyped nextgenner. We can't expect everyone to peak at and advanced age like Waws did.

Either it’s just empathy because you know he’s been trying to grab the gold medal for so long and you would have been upset even if he had won or you wanted to witness the Golden Slam in your lifetime.

Wawrinka was as erratic as Shapovalov, if not more, he was outside the TOP 15/20 for long periods when he was 22-26 or so. Shapovalov is having better results than the ones Stan had at his age, and Fedalovic standing in his way is not very relevant because he was losing to many different players pre-2013, not just them like say, Murray or Ferrer at their peak. Before 2013 it was hardly a safe bet that he would win a slam, let alone 3.

This. Djokovic was the only player capable of getting the Golden Slam. We probably won't see it anymore in our lifetime.

Stan reached the Rome final in 2008, beat Fed in 2009 and Murray in 2010. He wasn't the useless MUG you're making him out to be.

All the time I hear people (at work for example) clock in and then say something like- "we really crushed them last night",
or "we lost yesterday, but we have a strong line-up and next week we can't lose".

This sort of ego-sharing wih another person or a team or a political figure is, in my opinion, a form of narcissism (through identification).
It's sort of like thinking- I may be puny and insignificant, but I support this politician, or relate to this athlete, or some "special" group, or I am one with this player/team-
and they/he/she/ is great- therefore I am great.

Tennis is a game of style, form, grace, tactics, athleticism, determination and skill. Those are the reasons to watch a match, not "my guy beat your guy".

Mostly, I wait for a match to be complete, and I know the score before I watch- so I will not be distracted by meaningless emotional undercurents- and I can concentrate on
what is actually taking place.

I never said he was a mug :-D . I said he had a certain ranking which is factually true. Shapovalov made the Wimbledon SF and he beat Nadal as a 17yo. He faced Federer once and never faced Murray.

Don't care about Olympics much. But Djokovic made mistake overplaying in Olympics. Smart man would have skipped Olympics for CYGS or at least didn't go for doubles as well.

Meh. His antics and cockiness again reminded me what I don’t like about him, and the. To try to dismiss it as ‘just being human’. Congrats to Zverev and Careno.
