I'm happy to see Rafael Nadal beat Federer

Federer now has a great rival, and this helps Federer a lot. This whole tournament, he has played against players far worse than him and also in matches before the French Open. Federer needs someone like Nadal to challenge him. This way, Federer trains and works harder, knowing theirs a greater challenge lying ahead, instead of going into tournaments thinking he's won it already.

All this Federer-bashing also is welcome. Because if by chance Federer does beat Nadal on clay court in the future, it would be funny to see the Federer lovers-turned-bashers, go back to praising Federer.

I'm not saying Federer will or will not beat Nadal. I still believe Federer's better than Nadal. Just not on clay court. The thing that killed Federer is the spin shots that he had to deal with on his backhand shots. I think that's all it is. If it was any other court, Nadal's shots would not go as high as it did in the FO, and Federer's backhand would have had no trouble.

Great, i think so too, i said a few days ago, that Rafa will best Fed at the FO but everyone laughed, so who laughs now?? :)

Yeah people should be happy that Federer lost and has a rival-not saying idiotic stuff about what a "loser" he is and what a "choker" he is.

Finally some sense on this board. Course I'm not happy Roger lost but it's good for the game, and in the long run it might help him.

Nadal and Roger are not rivals. Had Nadal not lost a 0-2, 0-30 lead in the 3rd set of the Nasdaq final he would be 3-0 head to head with Federer, and be up 8-1 in sets. Roger needs to raise his game to rival Nadal.

Yes, and if Agassi hadn't dropped all those sets to Sampras back in the day that wouldn't have been a rivalry either. But you know what? He did.

Federer is #2 on clay. Federer can lose to any top 5 claycouters on a given day. Fed might never win a French Open. Nadal is younger, and will get better. Fed shouldnt concern himself in winning the French. If he doesnt win Wimbledon, his year is shot. No grand slams for Fed. Fed should concentrate on Wimbledon like Samprass. Look how many grand slams Samprass won. One French or 5 Wimbledons. Fed needs to concentrate. For get about the French. If he doesnt, he might retire in a few years. A la Coria.

Thankyou. Can't believe these people dumping him right now.

All around I still think Federer is the better player, Nadal just gives him trouble. I'll be satisfied once Rafael wins a hard court tournament this year. We all know that Rafael can win on clay, but he has the potential to be where Federer is, a great player on every surface.

I'm not so sure that's the case entirely. Federer perhaps is the better "all-around" player but I don't think it's by much. Nadal is perhaps the best mover in the game and at his size and strength, that makes for a tough combination for opponents to deal with. I'm interested to see how he fares at Wimbledon this year. He's obviously tired from all the clay court tennis and it's going to be a difficult adjustment switching to grass. I wouldn't be totally surprised if he makes it to the second week.

I agree that a rivalry of the two best players in the game will only help tennis, but I don't think it will help Federer if Nadal dominates him in the future (which wouldn't totally surprise me). This kid Nadal is for real, he's nowhere near hitting his peak yet. Pretty scary (especially for Federer).

Hilarity ensures. lmao@the comparison of Agassi to Nadal.
What a Federer fan who can counter with an imaginary argument!

federer's game gives other players more problems than nadal's game does. but nadal gives federer problems, and thats the way it is.

It's not a comparison TwistServe's sidekick. It's an illustration that "what-if" arguments hold no weight. Hooray for reading comprehension!

After only 3 matches, the Federer fans can't handle Nadal winning on hardcourt
too.

Agassi never threw away a 5 set match to Sampras.
Agassi was beaten most times on carpet, grass and hardcourt.
Sampras even won their most recent clay match.
He rarely had a tiebreak in the 3rd set vs. Sampras.
Still, Agassi won some good matches between them.

So, since Krajicek had a winning record against Sampras, he's the better player? Because Christian Freiss was 2-0 against Lendl, he's the better player? Please!! Fed's gonna win Wimbledon. He's already licking the stamp and mailing it in. That lollipop serve of Nadal's won't work on grass. It's hard for me to say it as a Sampras fan but if the conditions are a little more dry and a little more warm, Fed will win a French and maybe a couple. He has better all-around skills. Nadal is a talent. He's young and hungry but I'm not giving up on Fed just yet. He couldn't have played worse against Nadal. Nadal loves clay and is a lefty. Fed will figure him out. Remember, Hewitt had Fed's number in the beginning but what has happened with that match-up? Was Hewitt not the "hot" guy a few years ago? Fed has the kind of game that translates to any surface. His efficiency of movement will ensure extra energy during long matches and long career with few injuries. Others have said it and I agree; Nadal's strokes are unnatural and we all know what kind of arm-killing stick he's swinging. Don't say we didn't tell you so.

Yet again sir (or madam), you are oblivious to the point being made. By the way, I like Nadal and his game. I'm glad he won the French. Just as glad as I would've been for Fed.

I once said if Federer wins the French Open, pigs will fly. So far so good. No airborne pigs across the Eiffel Tower!
