I'm sick and tired of these depressing black/gray courts

Watching the tennis on TV at the Laver Cup, New York, and Rotterdam has all the appeal of viewing a Soviet-era prison.
I'd like to enjoy the tennis, but I just can't watch these matches. The ambiance is so depressing, I quickly turn the channel.
They say, you can see the ball land on the court so much better thus producing less questions on wether ball was in or out. Less bad silly challenges.. and also they say you can see the ball much better on TV screen.

Rotterdam is not that bad, gray with green-gray similar to Charleston. It sure beats the ugly dark blue - green combo popular in North America.
Btw, do you actually know what the prisons looked like in the Soviet era? :)

Yes... respectfully.....good pics, smart post. Good topic.
I understand.

I do not need a court color to be an antidepressant. Or a stimulant. If the tennis is depressing or the crowds are sparse....or the tennis is impressive..... great. Let’s discuss.
Seems like this court color might even make sense for visibility. It looks good to me, especially as nobody wears all-white anymore.

I am sure there are studies on the visibility ...either way. wondering if there are some thorough studies which analyze the various sensory factors, depressant factors, anxiety factors, etc.

Two turnoffs for me.

I've never liked the color scheme at the O2 Arena for the ATP Finals - the lack of contrast just doesn't suit my eye.

Even if watching a singles match, it's hard for me to watch a court without doubles alleys

The black courts take me way back to my high school playing days. If memory serves, they were black courts and not the smoothest surfaces. They were resurfaced to the more classic green with red on the borders, which I've always liked. (A further digression:. We had 6 courts side-by-side and the whole area was like a wind tunnel. They put up windscreens my senior year, which were quickly no match for the frequent windstorms.)

I'm actually stunned there's no black courts surrounded by vibrant colours off yellow (ball) like teal, red, purple, etc.

There used to be red and orange tennis balls back in the day. Eventually, they settled on yellow.
Maybe they could use the pink breast cancer ones.

I am not a fan of that colour, but it's a good idea to do it at one point. Perhaps all tournaments held in October could use them.

I don't remember red and orange but if they were used it was not mainstream. Mainstream used to be white tennis balls which changed to yellow with the advent of color TV.
