irony is if fed finally gets his rg win, he is going down to nole in the final. couldn't do it against rafa any of the other times that beating him meant a trophy, but ofc magically does it here only to lose in the final.

anyway he's not getting beyond rafa

Imagine that against all odds he beats Rafa.
Then Nole comes next.
It would be like winning the lottery twice in a row.
He will be the biggest underdog of all. Like the underdog's puppy. However, he did beat Novak in 4-sets when Novak was dominating in 2011.
A great achievement so far though for Fed which means, Yes he can play another couple years at a high level.

would be one of the most painful wins

because Djoker is waiting in the final

shades of 2015
In some respects yes, if we assume he won't win the tournament, but in others maybe not so much. I might be in the minority here, but let's acknowledge the elephant in the room for a second. I'm honestly more concerned about Nadal getting 18 here than I am Djokovic getting 16. I know everybody thinks Djoker will win every GS from here until the end of time because he's on a roll now, but I personally would rather avoid Nadal getting within 2 slams so if Fed miraculously beats him I think it's a good time to be happy. Too many people are just assuming Nadal won't win any of the other 3 slams again IMO. It only takes one Djoker upset and he's probably the favourite, especially at either HC slam.

Again, I acknowledge that I might be in the minority here.

Fed has been the second best clay court player the past 15 years. Unfortunately nadal has been the greatest.

It’s like Andy Roddick probably would have 3-4 Wimbledon titles if not for Fed

Even if fed upsets nadal. It’s just very hard for me to imagine he can win the finals against Novak or thiem.

It was already a success for him to make it to the QF. The SF result is just icing on the cake.

I suspect nadal wins in 3. If fed lucky he gets a set off. No way does fed win barring injury to nadal. And I’m a fed fan.

The best way would be to win from a Nadal retirement at 1 set all, 3/1 Federer in the 3rd. Nadal is sick because he ate some bad banana. This place would implode and there would be endless talks about moral victories

Just imagine Fedr wins this.
I know it is very unlikely, and don't think it will happen, but wouldn't it put the goat debate to rest between them?

Would be epic thats for sure
It won't mean a thing if he doesn't win the trophy. If Djokovic takes it, he will be only 4 shy of his record. Very doable for a still kind of young and healthy player.

Whenever he loses he is injured anyway, that's not a hard one...

I'm mentally tough, I can delude myself a lot, I could even convince myself that god is real, but to convince myself that Fed has a chance at RG? Even me can't do that.

Probably the h2h in slams Rafa-Fed will be 10-3 after the Friday match which means that a period of incessant trolling will come on the internet.

Trust me, if a 42yo Nadal shows up, I will be.
The premise was that Rafa is bad matchup and age and fitness. But now Rafa declined more than Fed, matchup is changed and Fed improved his fitness.
So if Fed is technically superior, he should win or at least make it a close match.

No. They are both still active and Nadal has beaten Federer at Wimbledon. (Potentially) lots of time for Nadal to win Slams. I don't really get your point TBH.

I still hear a lot how Nadal was able to beat Federer on his favourite surface, yet Federer has never done so. This will definitely shut that argument up.
But that is because Rafa also went on to win the title, that made it special. Just beating a guy and then lose is not the same. Like Djokovic who doesn't get that much credit for just beating Rafa at RG, neither Soderling, because they lost the finals.

I thought the GOAT debate had long been settled in AO17 finals?

With this match obviously no sane Fed fan would expect him to win but I know our champ won’t go down without a big fight. And I feel he’ll want to put to bed what people say that he’s never beaten Nadal on his favourite surface. I also have a funny feeling that Nadal won’t be playing his top level in this match as he hasn’t been tested so far in RG. If I was a betting person I’d probably put a small amount on Fed as 6 is a really good odd.

Being sane is boring. I would be upset if Fed even lost a set. Rafa lost all the advantage. Hey if Fed fans really believe what they were saying that Fed is the goat and techically superior, then they shouldn't be surprised if Fed wins.

Rafa lost matchup and fitness advantage and Fed has better footwork and techincal skills and tennis IQ according to most Fed fans and he is the goat, so if they actually believe that, why would we be surprised if Fed won?
