impossible to wash clay stained white socks?

well, I know the perfect solution would be to chose black socks, but I am a white socks guy (on the tennis courts).

problem is: I only play on clay and my socks, obviously, get incredibly dirty. how do I remove the stains? I have used every combination of temperatures, detergents, soaking before, even bleach - but nothing seem to work

any ideas?

thanks.

It's simple: you can't. The colour gets stuck deep inside the fibres of the fabric, and the detergent can't remove it. It's like those dye for old clothes: you dye once, and you don't have to dye them until a long time because it's stuck deep in the fabric.

Else, you can wear black socks... or wear nothing at all.

my approach since 1978

Wear the clay stains with pride.:)
Keep hard court indoor socks separate if fashion matters.

I get invited to play occasionally on a red-clay court. I have a couple of pairs of socks that I use for that purpose, and that purpose only. Har-Tru, by contrast, washes out pretty easily.

There´s no way to keep them white, but there are people who keep socks cleaner than me, probably they don´t slide too much.
