In 1st set should Nadal have gone at Fed at net?

In the first set fed came to net and popped up a half volley sitter that went to nadal's backhand. Nadal went down the line, fed guessed right, and knocked off the crosscourt volley. i seem to remember a player named ivan whose last name is lendl who would have tried to drill a hole through the netman. would that have been wrong for nadal? a shot to the body there esp. one by nadal would have been virtually impossible to play. does nadal show too much respect to fed?

it happened again and nadal tried the pass instead of the body blow and fed guessed right again. wonder if fed would have won those points with shots drilled at him. lendl wouldn't have thought twice about drilling his opponent on both occasions.

So another sore assed loser Nadal fan comes up with a ridiculous thread like this after a smackdown. What a shock. You can join TheNatural sucking on a nice big bowl of sour grapes for breakfast, yum yum.

ARod did exactly that yesterday, and the sharpness of Fed's volleys killed the ball in the crosscourt in most of the cases, I mean
10 of 13, good enough, eh?

Nadal is actually not a mean guy. At AO Kohlschreiber twice knocked Nadal down at the net. Nadal had a chance to repay him, but instead he just passed him.

^^^ That's a great example u made there. Nadal aint the kind of guy to bean a person - he prefers to pass and then make his VAMOS shout. :D

That said, i have seen Fed being made a human target at the net (against gonzo at the AO) but he still managed to pull off some amazing touch volleys.

Lendl hated McEnroe... Plus those kind of things usually only happen when there have been som irritations between the players.

it depends on how close to the net nadal and Fed were. If Nadal was far behind the baseline and fed was far behind the net, then he shouldn't have tried to "drill through him". If they were closer to each other, then maybe he should have.

They were pretty close. Nadal was about mid-court. So if he wanted to drill at Fed he could have. The thing is that they don't hate each other. They looked quite friendly at the net after the match.

I think Nadal has automatic passing shots reflex trained deeply into his head. He can do amazing passing shots especially on the backhand side without even thinking about it, like muscle memory shot. So I think drilling it at the guy at the net would actually be against his nature and require more effort from him.

Federer has pretty quick reflexes, so i don't know if he would have been hit, but he probably wouldn't have been able to return the ball. then again McEnroe also had quick reflexes.

What if he had gone at him at the net? Would the score be any different? I don't think so, but it leaves one to ponder.
yeah, ur prob. right. it's just one of those things that sometimes happens in a match. after seeing the pt (esp. the 1st opportunity), it just begged the question. if you've ever played a tough singles match, you know what i'm sayin'. fed is a true professional, so had nadal beamed him and won the point, he probably would have not gotten angry. but a beam to your opponent's forehand side wrist is a good play sometimes, as there's no time to get your racket on it unless you telegraph it. and you're not really going AT his body that way.

fed guessed beautifully on both passes, though.
