In a weird way, do you think Djokovic feels sorry how Nadal and Federer have ended up?

With regards to how things have ended up in the slam race/goat debate - both injured and physically on their last legs, barely able to walk anymore. I don't think he ever wanted it to end like this. They were his biggest rivals for years. He wanted to catch them and he finally did, but not in this way. It reminds me of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vadar, where Luke finally defeats Vadar, but it's not how he wanted it to happen - he wanted him to turn to the light side, not see him die. I sense there is a sadness there from Djokovic about the whole situation. He is beating these next gen players on behalf of Nadal and Federer, out of respect for both their names and because it feels like it is his duty to both of them.

What do you think? Hope I made sense there :p
We can’t have any civil discussions while you have that avatar! It overshadows any words!

Because he has finally overtaken them and they have destroyed their bodies almost to the point of irreparability, at least in Federer's case. It's just a depressing sight. Federer almost crying on Instagram when he gave out the message that he was undergoing more surgery. It's like watching your fiercest rival and competitor lose everything. You see a more vulnerable side to them and realize "damn, what have I done to them? I've reduced them to an emotional and physical wreck".

Maybe I am overthinking all this. :p
Well unless nadal and federer have had majors removed then Djokovic has not overtaken either. And they both have olympic gold which we know is what Djokovic wants more than anything.
djokovic will be gutted both are injured. He is a professional sportsman and a class act. His fans have always wished Fedal to be injured which is why Djokovic has been unpopular because his fans caused a backlash with their behaviour but Djokovic himself is a great guy ans is genuinely gutted when colleagues are injured.

They're both just more composed in general so that isn't a surprise. And yes I know Fed cried after blowing another winnable match to Rafa in Australia.

I'm a Fed fan but trying to be objective. Without Djok, Fedal each have 20+. Fed regains the edge over Rafa after 2014, but Rafa has two more RGs, another AO, and another Wimbledon at least.

And as an injured person who plays tennis he would be happy to have won that many, paid all lip service to Federer's greatness, who has three additional Wimbledons to go with a few more hardcourt Slams as well. Nice story for both and any arguments about GOAT simply come down to weeks at #1 and whose style you prefer. Djok and his team killed all that and turned the whole thing kinda ugly.
Weeks at number one is meaningless in a goat debate. Nobody places connors over borg or tbh mcenroe.
Djokovic tied Fedal when both were injured so that does play a part in public perception. djokovif needs to be clear of fedal slam wise and he is well aware of that. Also his csreer has been hurt by nadal much more than vice versa. 5-4 in slam finals is a big ego advantage for Nadal.

Feeling sorry for how they have ended up as if he is on 40 slams? Lmao. Even if he had 21 or 22 slams it's still around the same ballpark as them and open for GOAT discussion.

LMAO.. You think Fed and Nadal suddenly lost all their majors due to some kind of penalty or Djokovic won 80 majors?

Probably. Nadal/Fed were fighting for GOAT for years and DJoker took it from both of them right under their nose. No one expected this change of events. Djoker doesn't seem show any real signs of slowing down really either. He can realistically win another 6 slams in the next 3-4 years

If you ask 100 people who the GOAT is, 99 will say Federer.

So I think he is quite upset. No one likes him. Not the GOAT.

Djokovic remaining better than the competition once Federer and Nadal weren’t at their best (and Federer has been ancient in tennis years) has circumstantially put Djoko in the GOAT conversation. Nobody, not even rabid Djoko fans, looks at his play and says, “at his best, he’s just better than anyone.” The results are there, but the ceiling outside from parts of 2011 (in which he was beaten by a 30 year old Federer who would then again have two match points on him at the USO) just isnt and Djoko and camp knows this. He’ll try to get 23-24 slams to ameliorare for a lesser peak and frankly, aesthetically unappealing play even if technically offering zero weaknesses.

Honestly he's in the middle, which is what the facts say. No one knew who Djokovic even was yet when Nadal was already having 11 title seasons. Let's stop acting like Nadal didn't already have a million miles on him when Djokovic rose. Rafa was a straight up veteran by 2011. (and was supposed to be done by 2012). Heck, even going just from Wimbledon 2011, that was Rafa's 5th Wimbledon final and Djokovic's first. It goes way beyond a year difference in age.
"Nadal was a straight up veteran by 2011" lol please. He turned 25 midway through the year, and remained head and shoulders above the rest of the competition - probably would've had a 2010 repeat if Djokovic didn't GOAT out for 9 months. He also had his most statistically successful season (and certainly in his top 3) after that. Sure, Nadal was better in his pre-prime than Djokovic (although Djokovic had established himself as a top contender by 07, just 2 years after Nadal), but that doesn't make Nadal anywhere near a contemporary of Federer or even "in the middle".
Nadal's prime: 2008-14
Djokovic's prime: 2010-16
Federer's prime: 2003-09
I think it's pretty clear who's more relevant to his career. It's like saying Lendl was more a contemporary of Connors than Wilander.

Also people only thought Nadal was "done" in 2012 because he was absent - there were no signs before or after that he was declining. He just came back and shot right to the top.
You can't look at this and tell me you're watching a post-prime Nadal vs a prime Djokovic:

The actual reason for that is that Nadal gets beaten earlier in slams and doesn't reach Djokovic. That is the usual history.

Of course not. I'd bet my bottom dollar Djokovic wholeheartedly believes he is altogether better than them as a player, as a person and whatever else have you. I doubt he actually disagrees with much of what his parents say.

Yes, he definitely believes he is the superior player than both of them. Djokovic has given me the impression throughout the years in interviews and his mentality that he knows he is the better tennis player than anyone. But why wouldn't he believe so? That's what you need to believe in order to will yourself through what Djokovic has achieved. I would say he ain't wrong either (although he has never said he is better than them).

Post hoc rationalisation.

Doesnt matter. Nobody looks that deeply. As Djokovic fans keep themselves sayi it all about numbers. Well when players are tied many will look at h2h between them at the biggest events and 11-7 is a big lead for Nadal that will not be bridged.

What do you think? Hope I made sense there :p

no
djoker does not have the injury of fed and rafa at this moment and he is apparently fit
furthermore, they are doing tennis only. he has plenty of time and opportunities to prevent from similar things happening to him.

I think Djokovic has more or less proven that he's the best player from this time period.

He deserves every accolade that he receives and in my opinion has proven himself to be the best player from this generation.
i don't think so. rafa had to play peak fed that cost him a couple wimbledons and then when fed finally started falling off djoker turned in to Ultron. Fed got to feast before rafa and djoker were prime. Djoker piled slams the last 3-4 years when fed was basically done and Rafa has been injured.

End of the day I feel like all 3 of them are very close but I feel Rafa is the goat. winning record in slams against fed and djoker. winning record against them both in masters 1000s. olympic gold. only player ever to win 1 slam a year for 10 consecutive years. 17 straight years in the top 10.

People are insteresting creatures. If you want to determine GOAT you have to look at facts, instead asking people.

Nope, he knows he's still a pigeon off clay and remembers the beatdown at RG too.

the one where he had the worst year of his career and was losing to everyone everywhere or the one where his foot was so damaged he was in crutches post-RG?

Wha? Huh? Djokovic feels sorry?

Djokovic wanted to pass them in any way he could. Age. Injury. Operations. Pandemic. Decrepitude.
He wanted to stomp on their graves with triumphal glee.
He wanted to crush their souls, and feel their dust between his fingers--savoring every moment.

Why do you think he was nibbling on the blades of grass at Wimbledon?

Because he said to himself this is Fed's turf, and now I have taken it from him and humiliated him doing it.
It is now my grass court because I conquered him and it. I treat it with disdain.
I savor this victory, not so much because it is a triumph for me, but more because I took his kingdom and crown from him.

"Mmmmm. This grass tastes so sweet."

He was very sour at the handshake and very very very sour and downright disrespectful towards Nadal’s injuries at the qf post match presser, he pretended he does not understand muller-weiss-syndrome and said he saw no injuries ( what now ? Rafa has to cut open his foot and show him where the bone is ?) - he showed zero sympathies for rafa and his struggles and honestly no one cares what he thinks - only thing ppl should be sorry about is how he keeps getting beaten by an older and born with injury guy time and again, kinda sad if you think about it…. Crowd and ppl worldwide see through the facade helmet-head tries to put up, lol i feel sorry for such a sour loser. Rafa living rent free in his head.

Nope, don’t make sense when u outright lie about something, facts state otherwise, he is getting BEAT by these next gen kids - he is not taking care of any of them on behalf of anyone, what are u smoking ? Do u think Fed would allow a pathetic selfish cheater like helmet-head to tarnish his legacy ? What on behalf ? Getting beat by Fokina ? Alcaraz ? Vesely u mean ?

it's understandable that he had a bit of a cold handshake with a guy that publicly dissed him on many occasions in the past year...Rafa showed zero sympathies and was downright disrespectful towards Djokovic in the press and his injury at 2021 AO ( what now ? Djo has to cut open his stomach and show him where the tear is ?)

Becaz there WAS no tear, was djoko born with the tear ? Lol

Djo has to cut open his stomach and show you where the tear is? Stop being bitter man, Djo has done nothing to you for you to hate him like this...enjoy the rivalry while they still playing

Novak's post match interview. He comes across as an athlete who is disappointed that he lost an important match, as anyone would be. Nothing more than that IMO.

Once again u ignore what i said caz u got caught, lol a sour loser will always be a sour loser, his supporters can go deal with that sad item their own way. Enjoy the beatdown for now.
