In for a tough Fall Season

Our Fall season just got flights and schedules posted. This one counts toward final YE rating with matches through the end of October counting.

2 divisions, total of 18 teams combined. You would think 2 divisions of 9. Nope.

Our division, 10 teams, all 4 teams that made Districts in 18+, plus all 4 runners up, plus 2 other strong teams.
Per TR, Average NTRP rating for flight is 3.41 (my team on the lower side, highest team is sitting at 3.55)
Each team plays every team once, and one team twice. Yeah, we get play the district winner twice!

Other division, 8 teams with an average NTRP rating of 3.04 (tons of players playing up in that division)

The good part, this will be some really great competition and should make for tough matches.

The bad part, nothing will be easy, and will make putting together lineups with our weaker players much more difficult.

At least I don't need to fret about potentially getting bumped at year end!

We have a mix of averages in our division. There is one 3.5 with almost ALL 3.0 rated players. Most teams look to have large gaps between top guys and lower guys.

I would relish the challenge. And the competition may just bring out the best in you so don't be so sure you won't get bumped up!

Rating wise, it shouldn't matter. If you are blowing out lower level competition or playing close matches with good competition, the effect on your rating is the same.

I will definitely enjoy the competition, and yes, in general, I play up to my opponents' level ... and unfortunately down to my opponents' level as well sometimes. But man, a little balance of some tough and some easier would be fine too!

You're overthinking it...

Don't worry about that NTRP crap and just put together the best lineup you can while giving everyone fair amount of playing time.

Be that team the guys who worry about NTRP hates playing because any games lost will have a negative impact on their ratings.

Why would the # of teams in each flight not be balanced? Do the different flights play on different days/times?

@eelhc I like your perspective, thanks! ... I have a few people on another team that I would enjoy hurting their rankings ... me personally, I do NOT want to get bumped, but a few on my team really do want that and have asked for some help in the lineups ....

@kevrol I have no idea. All flights play on Saturdays earliest start times 7am, latest start times 8:30pm .... Flight A has a 10 week season, Flight B has an 8 week season ... why not both with a 9 week season? The matches in mid-December are going to be pretty cold and likely windy.

My most recent league season did this as well, both flights played the same day but one flight consisted of teams all playing out of one facility (a major university's tennis center), while the other flight was teams playing out of various athletic clubs. The university flight was smaller than the other one.

The only real way to hurt someone's rating is to throw 2 or 3 matches before the one against them to get your dynamic rating lowered, then play lights out against them. You will tank them and laugh all the way to, well... I don't know.
