I used it for the first time since 8 months ago today. It's going up to my expectation that I had one year ago.

It was cloudy on an artificial turf surface. It was an easy condition for court detection. It worked quick with 4 or 5 star recognition. It picked up calls more than 90% without false positives. Judgment seemed correct. Instant replay helped a lot even when the judgment was controversial. It's very useful. The quality of the basic functions of calls have risen to the level of practical use.

On the other hand, some features for use afterward are missing or not so good. There was a video replay on the old cloud that allows you to view with points and a court map. It was extremely useful but I guess it's gone. The iOS app doesn't work well. It doesn't work as it is supposed to. It hangs up very often. I also wish to see the video snap that I can see for instant replay afterwards.

Thanks. Did you have one device or two?

YES, I think they really improved this thing as this year went on. I think this should be the Official line calling device for ALL USTA official matches and leagues. Cheating is thing of the past now. and next No let calls on the serve.

It’ll be a nice present of the season. I guess he’s praising too much but it’s at a decent quality now. I thought the stats would be more valuable but the line calling is more useful now. My friends come together at the device and enjoy the instant replay when the call is close. I wish the replay is available later when I watch recorded video as well.

I definitely plan on getting one. I was more than impressed with what it can do. The price point is fair also. Retails for about the cost of a new racquet. I getting it more for practice than anything, but I look forward to seeing what it can do in game situations also.

Report your impressions if you buy it. I'm interested, but from what I've read on this thread, it's still too early in the process to purchase it. However, it does appear to be improving on a near daily basis. So I'm interested to hear where it's at now.

This would be a godsend if it worked. This is truly one of the worst things about Rec tennis - improper line calls/no line judge.

Think in a hundred years what kind of device they’ll have. That would be sweet! Hopefully they can get this reliable and cheapish. I’d get it...

Do they have this item actually working like advertised or are there still issues?

i’ll update once it gets nice enough to play outside again. main issue i’ve see so far is that needs quite a bit of light eg direct overhead sunlight (most indoor courts by me are too dark for the it)

I have been using the double functionality with 2 units. The calls are pretty good but the best part is that it over turned a bad call on my serve last night. I hate when my good serves get called out and I finally have good proof.

It is not perfect and still makes some bad calls and still misses calls.

If it makes bad calls and misses calls as you say, then how can you also say you have good proof?
Sounds like it is not perfected as yet.

Because I had a video of the ball hitting the line. It misses some calls, not all of them.
So is this ready for Prime time ?? Will USTA place this device on all playoff courts and have it call lines ?? and also have it official line calling device for all USTA matches ? I am all for that. just so long as it can't call foot faults, I am all for that.

The shot calling has become a lot better but it tends to lose the ball during overheads and doesn't understand if the point is still going or not. The device also still needs to be further developed physically in order to be mass produced. Just having the unit sit in my bag in its protective case, the camera lenses fell apart and it took me having to disassemble it to plug them back in. On top of that, the connectors are very flimsy and prone to damage, which makes me concerned. If the LCD connectors pop off, good luck reconnecting those with the minimal amount of space you have to work with. My most noticeable issue was playing with it outside during summer. The heat will literally melt the glue off of the LCD screen. The screen is just a replacement Apple Nano screen that I don't believe is designed to be sitting in the heat.

I do love the idea of this product and what it promises but my overall point is that it's not ready for the mass market yet.

From the sounds of things it has steadily been improving since it's release. That is encouraging.

Im very interested in one of these devices.

If I were to try to use it during a tournament match, would it be allowed if the opponent agreed to it?

If it makes bad calls and misses calls as another poster commented, I would not agree to that contraption. Bad enough your opponent makes a bad call, but add this thing as well, just makes more issues.

Do you want to let this device make a call during the match? Then it's controversial even if it's correct. It's like you're inviting some else to make a call on the court. It'll be much easier if you use it in a silent mode. It's equivalent to just taking video while playing.

I'm thinking of using it for singles match next week. Does anyone know how to switch the sides around? I looked in the support page but still am not sure how to do it.

If it’s 95% accurate or better, I’d be ok letting it make the calls.

I’d love to remove my opponents from the process of determining if a ball is in or not.

I feel it's about 95% correct. Also, you can see the instant replay to check how it looks regardless of the call when it is close.

It would need to be 95% on calls within a couple - 3 inches. The rest shouldn't be figured into the accuracy

Under that metric, I’d be happy if it was accurate 75% of the time.

The benefit is that the device is objective. Competitors are not.

Objective implies it's weighing the factors it's looking at, probably more indifferent if anything. 3 inches is visibly way out

I’d assume over the course of a match it’d miss a few close calls on both sides. Let’s be honest, missed calls happen by human error. The difference is the context of those missed calls.

Machine = random misses
Human = misses at key/biased moments

I know which I prefer.

In the picture below, the "myself" and "opponent" show the position of the two players
A click on "opponent" switches them

Not if the ball is coming fast towards you. I've visually seen serves coming at me that were 3 inches out (by the clay mark) that I was sure were in. Similarly when you are on the move, your visual acuity drops considerably and 3 inches can be a challenge. That's why many of your bad calls are opponents running to a sideline ball while you stand still watching it land in. They can't see it well and you only have their sense of fairness to determine the call.

All i'm saying is the machine needs to be accurate to within a much tighter tolerance that's completely specified under all conditions to be useful. If I hit shots that are in and it calls them out I will smitherize it:D

I used mine last night for the first time in about 6 months. It worked a lot better with the January 2019 update than before. Seemed to call lines very accurately. (Lighted indoor court.)

Have you or your opponent ever accidentally hit the device with a tennis ball? Can it survive ?

It would be unlikely to hit it with a ball but the device is early fragile. They told me there will be a new hardware revision coming soon. Hopefully more FPS and better cameras.

I have been using the doubles functionality white a bit and is has been interesting. I have used the replay function to overturn some obviously bad calls and have found that people have a hard time admitting to making bad calls, even when obvious on the replay.

I think it is worthwhile just for the video. I have improved my serve just by watching the video and making adjustments.

In reviewing video at home, I have noticed lots of bad calls when the player is right on top of the ball too.

The line call function doesnt interest me but surely the ball tracking function is potentially the real selling point of this device?

Will this track the speed of serve, speed of shots, including the height the ball was hit at?

If so, this would provide very good analysis to help improve. Youll be able to analyse how deep you hit the ball when taking the ball at different heights and at what pace, to analyse your game.

Id be very very interested if it can do this.

I agree @a12345. These features interest me as much as the line calling. I don't own one, but intend to buy one when I leave the country I'm in. It said it could track RPM originally. I'm not sure if it can, or whether two cameras is enough to trace a ball accurately enough to count revolutions, but it's an interesting feature.
