Just bought a third PDGT frame, and it's going to have a grip of 1 size larger. I figure the best thing I can do is build up the two smaller frames to match the new one.

I was reading on TW-learning about using a heat shrink sleeve. Unfortunately I really don't have access to a heat source to use while away from home. So would the only other way to do this effectively is to put in a new, thicker replacement grip?
Any suggestions

Do you have access to a hair dryer, or hand dryer? If not, you can get there by adding a thicker grip and/or using more over grips. You can even add tape and thin plastic strips (e.g. cut from a milk container) to build up the handle underneath the existing grip.

would a double over-grip do about the same job?

Yes, pretty much. It all depends on what you want it to feel like. A double overgrip can be a little squishy. Some prefer the grip to be firmer, which is why I suggested the plastic/tape trick. You can also alter the shape of the pallet using this trick as well, provided you are ok with increasing the grip size to some extent.

I'll see what I can do. I'll put on two tournagrips and see how that feels

You can cut rectangles out of thin wood using a utility knife and some sandpaper. Glue them onto the pallet and regrip. Gives a nice solid feel. Beveled edges keep the corners sharp. Goes pretty quick once you get the hang of it.

The easiest way using something you probably already have on hand is duct tape. Four or five layers of tape on the bare handle should bring you up a size. Don't wind the tape around the handle like a grip, though, as that will round off the bevel edges. Cut the tape into long, narrow strips that fit each flat edge of the handle.

Do you have access to an oven, if so use the broiler function and hold the racquet about 3 inchs away from the top coils. It's alot faster than using a hair dryer.
If you want to maintain the firm ridges of the handle use the heat sleeve, if not the tape/overgrip version also work.

which would be more effective? the duct tape or a double tourna-grip? dont really have access to over or anything

Shrink sleeve and a blow dryer works fine, is better than using duct tape, but not as cheap as using duct tape. I prefer to not do things in a "ghetto" way, so I always use the shrink sleeves.

A candle works as well, but there are other methods either than a heat shrink sleeve. You could try a thick leather grip

I just heat shrink sleeved my racquet. It worked like a charm! At first I used the oven burner and it worked for everything but the top of the grip. I then used my wife's hairdryer 1250 and it finished the deal easily.
