I am planning on being there the 9th...and maybe the 10th if I find a place to stay. Coming in from Glendale. My wife might be taking the days off as well but she just got a new position at work so taking time off for her might be tough. I've gone with a few friends in the past.

Too bad about the bag and the content policy. I've brought a backpack with food and water.

Wow that does suck, people are going to be pissed. No food or drinks (1 water bottle, unfrozen). I always bring a couple frozen waters and they thaw throughout the day and cool me off. Now you're stuck with room temp tap refill or stand in line for rip off bottled water. I've seen families bring entire meals in, guess it's starve or spend a lot.
Clear backpacks are cheap enough (8.99 on Amazon), the only part that bothers me is no frozen water and no fruit/snacks.
The cynical part of me thinks this has nothing to do with safety, everything to do with forcing you to buy overpriced food/drinks.
Be careful. I find that most clear backpacks, even those which say stadium-approved, are bigger in at least 1 dimension than the 12,12,6 mentioned in the IW guidelines. You need to get a mini clear backpack.

I’ve always gone in the North entrance. They never checked my backpack. Just squeezed it a bit to check for glass. This has always been common knowledge for that entrance. Sometimes they’d laugh and ask if I had any alcohol in my backpack. I’d smile back and they’d waive me through. The South entrance (main entrance) is a completely different story.

Sounds like those days are over.

I went in through the south entrance with a decent sized back pack with food and water a few years back. Oh well

That was allowed.

At the North entrance, I brought in a 12 pack of Corona everyday. I just had to pour it into water bottles. Almost everyone brought in alcohol. No way you could do that at the South entrance. In fact I did go through the South entrance for re-entry once and had to take out all my beer.

Im guessing now it won’t be possible to get stuff in at the North gate either.

I am still open to hit or play if anyone wants. Not sure what days I will be there or even where I am staying, but that has never stopped me before. lol. I am off the whole week but thinking to show up at least the 9th and 10th.

It would be good to meet up with those traveling to IW. Alas...I'll only be on site for the event on the 9th and the 13th. I don't have extra time to stay and meet/hit.

Group photo in front of the jumbotron!

Now things to try on the demo court...
-new phantoms
-new prestige

any other sleepers out there to test?

Will you be going to the "Rafa and Friends" Tie Break Tens Event on Tuesday Night. Looks like it would be entertaining, and the price is right at $25

You can buy a cup that looks like a PENN can of balls and get free refills water or soda for entire tournament.
That's not quite true at least for soda, water will always be free. They will often ask for a same day receipt as proof of payment. The free refill is supposed to be for the day of purchase only.

Any relationship to the big bad coronavirus?

I canceled my trip to IW due to fear of covid-19. Very unfortunate that I have to give up four front row seats for my family but my wife will not go and she will not allow myself and my kids to go either. I might have to give those tickets to my relatives who live in CA.

How insensitive to put your relatives at risk of coronavirus!

I on the other hand will already be there, so hook me up!

I'm going 3/8 to 3/13 for the first time! Any ~4.0 players want to meet up for a hit during the week? Staying at a nearby resort that apparently gets me access to JW Marriot courts (really want to see what playing on clay is like).

My wife is giving me grief for this, especially with escalations in Cali and that it attracts a lot of international travellers. She already cancelled her trip the next wek to Knotts Berry. So I am evaluating if and when I might go.

When I have been there the courts were already reserved for tour players to practice that stayed there. Not sure if they set anything aside now.

That's why I will not be going. I will have to quarantine myself for at least two weeks after coming back from this tournament :(

I saw that. Still thinking I am doing a later session. Let me know how it goes though. I expect it will be a very basic version of the on-court for the pro cert.

This is great with all you wusses dropping out.

A *cough* here and a *cough* there and I'll get front row seats all to myself!

Also gonna empty out anti-bacterial wipe containers and fill them with food/booze/weed etc. Clear bag policy my @SS.

I can't believe people would cancel a trip to IW over covid19 fears. Maybe I can get some good last minute deals.

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like I only have a few days left to boost my ranking to ATP top 100!

I don't want to ruin the party for those going to IW but the weather forecast for Tues Qualifying day is 90% rain..Since i was planning to go only Tues/Wed i couldn't take the chance..I so sincerely hope it doesn't rain for those attending:)

South by Southwest, the annual tech, film and music conference in Austin, has officially been canceled because of the coronavirus. My wife's company is one of the many tech companies to pull of the event :(

Yeah, I'm in Austin and that was definitely a shock.

I’m cancelling my IW trip, not primarily because of coronavirus but I injured my knee skiing recently. I was going to take part in a tennis camp on the 2nd Mon/Tues. Now with the new clear bag rule, limit on player/fan interaction due to coronavirus, it’s just not worth the flights, hotel costs.

Fears are overblown! I’m looking forward to it!!
why do you think it is overblown? I am supposed to attend these conferences but it got canceled: Facebook, Google.

My wife is supposed to attend SXSW festival in Austin starting next week but it got canceled.

my company has an office in LA and everyone in the office travels to that office will have to work from home for 14 days after coming back.

Anyone staying in Laquinta or nearby? My friend got a b&b but no courts associated so looking for somewhere to play. My friend is a good player so dubs is also a possibility.

I’m at the JW Marriot and have access to the courts there. Would love to hit/play with people over the next few days (leaving Friday back up to the Bay Area). I’m around 4.0 but happy to play with higher or lower as well

Guess I won't be going. Had my bags packed as the airline was not going to refund our trip. But now that the tournament was cancelled I hope I can recoup something back. I heard someone tested positive in Indio which is close to Indian Wells.
