Hey, post back with your venue comparo.Gonna skip this year. Will be going to Miami Open instead
I plan to get to the Miami Open this year for the first time, completing what I call the U.S. grand slam of tennis tournaments (U.S. Open and the Masters events in Indian Wells, Miami, and Cincinnati) attendance-wise, and intend to post my thoughts on attending each tournament sometime after I experience my planned two full days.Hey, post back with your venue comparo.
I plan to get to the Miami Open this year for the first time, completing what I call the U.S. grand slam of tennis tournaments (U.S. Open and the Masters events in Indian Wells, Miami, and Cincinnati) attendance-wise, and intend to post my thoughts on attending each tournament sometime after I experience my planned two full days.
(I went to Indian Wells in 2024 and Cincinnati in 2022, and have attended the U.S. Open many times (8 different years). I'll probably include Washington, my "home" tournament (live 3 miles away) that I've gone to a dozen different years, in that comparison too.)
I really enjoyed the Cincinnati Open; honestly, I liked it better than Indian Wells. Cincinnati/Mason struck me as a relaxed tournament that is for both the masses and classes; it feels more humble than the U.S. Open (like all major events in New York, the USO screams "BIG AND IMPORTANT!") and Indian Wells (great setting, but definitely has a hoity toity feel). If the Australian Open is "the Happy Slam", then Cincinnati might be "the Happy Masters". The Lindner Family Tennis Center, while a large facility, is distinctly smaller than the USTA NTC or Indian Wells Tennis Garden, or at the very least it was in 2022. (Lindner is much, MUCH larger than Fitzgerald Tennis Center in DC though, LOL.) I'm unsure if (though fearful that) the tournament's expansion from 56 player fields to 96 player fields and from 1 week to 11-12 days will take away some of its "humility".How was Cincinnati? I've never been to Ohio but hope to make it there someday.
I've been to Indian Wells many times since I'm from LA and have been to the US Open three times. This year will be my first time at Miami Open.
NopeAnyone going to IW this year?
First weekend of the main drawAnyone going to IW this year?
We've done that each of the last two years. This time we're going the second Monday and Tuesday.First weekend of the main draw
Well, back in the day there wasn't a stadium 2 at all. But I don't disagree that the tone has changed a bit over time. In the early rounds you get a ton of value out of grounds passes. The later you go, the more the benefit of reserved seats, whose value has been improved in recent years.I've been going for years, but between them locking down what you can bring in, eliminating ga seats in stadium 2 and all the other greedy moves I might skip. used to be so much fun.
Gonna be in Cali, but way NorCal and up to Bend OR during that time. Might send out feel'ers for NorCal players though.
Above Sac visiting family in Yuba/Collusa. Only three or four days there then up to Bend for a few days as well, but coming back down to Solvang too. Been on my list of places to see.Sac or Bay Area? I can ask around if anyone is available! I'm in LA basically all of March till March 20 when I go to Miami
@ChaellAZ Wow. Small world. I'm in Yuba City. If you're looking for some tennis in Colusa; I have a good friend there that plays a lot; they have a meetup and play at one of the parks in Colusa. If you're in Yuba City PM me or stop by the YC racquet club.Above Sac visiting family in Yuba/Collusa. I'll post up here when I get the wife to confirm so I know days to try and get a hit with someone in, so I'll let ya know in case you have some contacts.
And too funny. You're last match with Tim just popped up on YT and that was 3 years ago. I know he had an injury.

Caught up with Tim over Christmas break. He's recovering slowly but surely! Hoping to hit with him soon again.
Solvang is great, love the vibes there and definitely makes me want to visit Denmark. Enjoy my friend!
Well, Palm Springs in early March has it's own draw (beyond tennis). But I agree with you that noone is "excited" about the tennis.Seems like there is little interest or buzz for this years tourney. Anyone agree?

I understand ticket sales are still good. A volunteer told me grounds passes were sold out on the middle weekend, but I haven't checked the website to confirm. There will likely be fewer Canadians. For anyone who is making the trip, where do you like to play when you're there?Seems like there is little interest or buzz for this years tourney. Anyone agree?
Definitely, it is prime time to be there and visiting snow birds are everywhere! From a tennis standpoint, I just do not hear people at our club talking about it like most years. must be no Rafa, Fed and and Aussie open Sinner is out. Should still be a great time and maybe better if crowds are reduced.
We usually play at the JW Marriott. They have a couple of grass courts but they're usually booked. Har tru and hard court.I understand ticket sales are still good. Who impressed you the most?Ended up going today for qualifying. Still a good amount of people and not as chaotic as last year in the middle weekend.
Who impressed you the most?
Which women did you like?Probably Nishikori. I only watched practices yesterday and I always love watching him train.
Which women did you like?
Did you visit the TW tent?I guess Xinyu Wang. I went with some friends and one of them is from China so she really wanted to see Xinyu
Did you visit the TW tent?
