Hey, post back with your venue comparo.Gonna skip this year. Will be going to Miami Open instead
I plan to get to the Miami Open this year for the first time, completing what I call the U.S. grand slam of tennis tournaments (U.S. Open and the Masters events in Indian Wells, Miami, and Cincinnati) attendance-wise, and intend to post my thoughts on attending each tournament sometime after I experience my planned two full days.Hey, post back with your venue comparo.
I plan to get to the Miami Open this year for the first time, completing what I call the U.S. grand slam of tennis tournaments (U.S. Open and the Masters events in Indian Wells, Miami, and Cincinnati) attendance-wise, and intend to post my thoughts on attending each tournament sometime after I experience my planned two full days.
(I went to Indian Wells in 2024 and Cincinnati in 2022, and have attended the U.S. Open many times (8 different years). I'll probably include Washington, my "home" tournament (live 3 miles away) that I've gone to a dozen different years, in that comparison too.)
I really enjoyed the Cincinnati Open; honestly, I liked it better than Indian Wells. Cincinnati/Mason struck me as a relaxed tournament that is for both the masses and classes; it feels more humble than the U.S. Open (like all major events in New York, the USO screams "BIG AND IMPORTANT!") and Indian Wells (great setting, but definitely has a hoity toity feel). If the Australian Open is "the Happy Slam", then Cincinnati might be "the Happy Masters". The Lindner Family Tennis Center, while a large facility, is distinctly smaller than the USTA NTC or Indian Wells Tennis Garden, or at the very least it was in 2022. (Lindner is much, MUCH larger than Fitzgerald Tennis Center in DC though, LOL.) I'm unsure if (though fearful that) the tournament's expansion from 56 player fields to 96 player fields and from 1 week to 11-12 days will take away some of its "humility".How was Cincinnati? I've never been to Ohio but hope to make it there someday.
I've been to Indian Wells many times since I'm from LA and have been to the US Open three times. This year will be my first time at Miami Open.
NopeAnyone going to IW this year?
First weekend of the main drawAnyone going to IW this year?
We've done that each of the last two years. This time we're going the second Monday and Tuesday.First weekend of the main draw
Well, back in the day there wasn't a stadium 2 at all. But I don't disagree that the tone has changed a bit over time. In the early rounds you get a ton of value out of grounds passes. The later you go, the more the benefit of reserved seats, whose value has been improved in recent years.I've been going for years, but between them locking down what you can bring in, eliminating ga seats in stadium 2 and all the other greedy moves I might skip. used to be so much fun.
