What a mug on that one.

A friend of mine says he knows a chick who met him at a party - she's in her 20s - and he kissed her and tried to stick his tongue down her throat.

Same issue - a little too much work done. Starts looking freakish.

But gotta love him for buying IW and putting so much money into it - and shaming the rest of the tournaments.

Though for a bloke born in 1944 he doesn't look that bad.

Good on him for making IW one of my favourite events and like you said shaming other tournaments.

Sicko, that's his daughter.

No that's his wife or girlfriend, right? He takes her with him to the tournament every year. Or at least since they've been together. I remember her sitting next to him last year and the year before as well. Pretty sure we had this discussion last year as well and that time there was a solid consensus that it was his significant other. Someone looked it up I think.

Yeah... He's old enough to be her grandfather. The perks of being a multi billionaire I suppose.

Well..seems pretty crazy to me to be honest. If I'm 77 I don't want to be with someone 50 years younger than me, that's for sure. I think some people are just obsessed with materialistic posessions and for him she is just another trophy to show off how accomplished he is. I know that's judgemental of me to say, but it just fits the picture. Compare that to Federer and Nadal who stayed with the girls they met before they got famous.

I wouldn't be surprised if Larry is doping, to be honest.

The Curious Case of Larry Ellison indeed.

Many negative comments here. Remember - no Larry Ellison - no Indian Wells. So appreciate some more what this guy has done.

$56bill according to wiki.

We used Oracle DB's back in the day.

Reasonable enough priced but you more or less had to use the very expensive consulting to make / keep them working. That's where the money was made I guess.

Did you see one evening ol' Bill Gates was a couple of seats down the row.

I wonder how well he plays?

What racquet and strings / tension?

You presume we like Indian Wells.....

Indian Wells and Miami are the 2 events that the tour needs least.

They just don't fit in.

Plus he can't even afford decent balls.

I don't care about Miami, but Indian Wells is solid. Last "big one" before Clay starts.

Well I'm only focused on clay after the AO.
I understand Canada/Cincy because that leads to a hardcourt slam.
But yeah taken on face value Indian Wells is a very nicely presented tournament.

The Darth Vader of the software world. Larry is a character. He was a big proponent of cloud computing with no disk storage on personal PCs or mobile devices. Then all the data in the world could be stored in Oracle databases. That sounds a little like Dr Evil style world domination.

Weird that you say that:
LOL what on earth is your definition of successful?
Nadal has won 2 Wimbledons, 2 US Opens, and an Australian Open.
He's the only player ever to win Indian Wells, Canada, Cincy, US Open in a year.
Seems like you ares saying that IW is meaningless, but then you are emphasizing the win there in 2013...

Is Nikita really 36 years old? She looks much younger. Ellison use to hang with women that looked like they were from Mikhail Prokhorov's "model" entourage, but he seems to have been with Nikita for several years now.

She always looks unhappy, or maybe it's just what the French would call "Pouty."

Well, at least he's spending his money on a tennis tournament rather than another basketball team or something like this. He's what I would do I were a billionaire but I am a thousandaire so I buy racquets instead.

I never said winning Indian Wells was not an accomplishment.
It doesn't change the fact that the tour doesn't need 2 hardcourt masters at the start of the year.

I think Dubai and IW are a great MS1000 duo.

Having the 500 Rotterdam and the 250s Acapulco and Miami makes for a good start to the season, I see little reason to change.

Maybe get rid of Madrid, it's a silly tournament.

Prospecting for precious metals makes for a tiresome career, I doubt she would be that happy to be honest.

Thanks for your informed opinion on what the tour "needs" maybe the ATP should hire you as a consultant and you can explain why one of the most popular and well attended events in the world isn't needed. Or not....
