Indian Wells Super Challenger next week

There's a 125 Challenger next week in Indian Wells. Back from injuries will be Hyeon Chung and Lucas Pouille. Kevin Anderson was supposed to be back, but withdrew. Pretty good field for a Challenger though.

I'm interested to see what Sinner and Nakashima can do, and also Hyeon Chung and McDonald considering they're coming back from injury, at different stages.

Ugo Humbert and Radu Albot both took wild cards, so it's even more stacked than it appears from the entry list.

Albot hasn't won a singles match this year, so he definitely needs more match play.
I expect some players prefer real match play to just having a practice week before a tournament.

Didn't realize this, but the Zverev brothers are entered into the tournament on the doubles side, while Mischa is playing singles, as well.

Chung got knocked out in his opening match. Bradley Klahn is out, as well. Jack Sock made a handful of ATP points, winning his first round match! Mitchell Krueger, Mackenzie McDonald and Noah Rubin are also early winners of their first round matches.

Sock will face #1 seed Humbert tomorrow in 2R.

Yikes, ok, bye Chung. I suppose the comeback has gotta start somewhere. I don't think he can use a protected ranking for IW as he did have a 'comeback' phase last year before getting injured again. Seriously hoping that's it now and he can go at least a few seasons without an injury as he's not even had a chance to reach his potential.

With only two matches not concluded on Tuesday there have been zero 3-set outcomes. Several of the 12 matches were upsets (Humbert, Pouille, O’Connell, Cressy, Broady).

Sascha Zverev is in the doubles draw with his brother. Wow! They probably need to practice for the Olympic games, but still it's quite unusual for a Top 10 player to play a challenger :)

BIG American presence in the bottom half of the draw: 6 of 8 players representing the States, 2 US guys guaranteed a SF spot. 4 of 8 spots in the top half taken by US guys - all of whom play non-Americans. In theory, the whole of the QF line-up could be US guys (unlikely, I know).
I'd love to see a Sinner vs Nakashima SF.
Any info on Korda? Seems to have swept his first 2 matches with ease.

I hope this happens.

Sinner is too saintly so far today, going down 3-6 two breaks to Kudla. Lots of errors, particularly on 5 BPs he earned but then blew.

Jannik Sinnerer blows another 6 BPs in just one game but did cash on his first opportunity before that and leads 2-1 second set.

Bad boy Sinner won a TB to force a third set but is once against saintly, as evidenced by being down 3-0 double break in the third set.

Young Korda got trampled 2&1 by Mitchell Krueger.

Had Tiafoe served it out in the third instead of losing the decisive TB it would be an all-‘Murican QF lineup;

Sock vs Kudla
Giron vs Nakashima
Barrere (FRA) vs Krueger
Johnson vs Rubin

Broken to 0 LOL.
Last time I bet money on a challenger match.

Glad to see Jack Sock making some hay, for once. He's been a laughing stock, but I genuinely felt bad for him.

Also happy to see him getting some momentum going! For a long time he's almost been a walking bye, which is not pleasant to see. Really hope he can continue this now and live up to his talents.

3 US semi-finalists guaranteed - France's Barrère is the only foreign player remaining who could spoil the US party when he takes on Krueger in the QF.

Giron (live ranking 102) and Kudla (live ranking 111) are on the cusp of the top 100 - these QFs are big matches for them.

All’Murican SFs now! Krueger guaranteed an American champion by taking out the Frenchman Barrere.

The teen Nakashima is up a break in the third set vs fellow Californian Giron.

Watching Kruger and Johnson. They are hitting great winners from all over. It seems like the court is really fast?

On serve through 8 games, 4-4. Sock has barely scratched Nakashima on return, but Nakashima has taken Sock to deuce at least 3 times, although has failed to garner a break point yet.

Wow... Sock was up 4-2 in the breaker, but Nakashima was very solid in those last 6 points.

Jennifer Chen is not responding to the chair umpire... :(

Both received wild cards into the Masters next week, so we might see more of them. Both playing pretty solidly, tbh. Sock just can't return to save his life.

1st game of second set to Sock. He served back to back aces to close that game. Seems like his server has a bit more pop in the desert air.
