An A. Bondarenko versus Mirza final would get my attention

they both have (obviously) a ways to go.
yesterday, mirza was strongly challenged
by ukranian koryttseva, but came back 26, 63, 62

on razzano you mean?
lol ..... now that you mention it,
it almost looks like the racquet is about to leave
her hand, but the ball obscures a clear view

It looks like it's past western to me, but that is such a bad photo it's hard to tell.

Bartoli is going back on the What's Wrong list. She finally wins a tournament, then goes out in a flash...
Azarenka is down a set and trying to survive the 2nd set.

This is like the 3rd chance for Safina to grab #1. IF she wins this, she'll be the new #1. One of these days she's bound to come through.

If only she had a decent serve. She's made millions and still hasn't found a way to produce a reliable serve with all that power she has......

Get a coach that actually knows how to serve!!!

Azarenka grinded her way to winning the 2nd set 7-5. Now show why you're the next "it" girl!! Go Vika!

Vesnina strikes me as the type that could be in the top 20, but nothing about her game really stands out. Russia has so much depth that they give girls like Kleybanova, Vesnina, Chakvetadze, Kirilenko opportunities to play Fed Cup matches. Worst case Russia still wins or goes deep for Fed Cups, best case a few of these girls pan out into future stars along the way.

Schnyder is getting pwned by Na Li. That wasn't a good matchup for Schnyder, especially if Na Li is in the zone.

Zvonareva kicking butt today.

dark horse

i know she had a rocky first set, but i like Azarenka's chances as a dark horse to come into iw and take the title. she had a nice run at the ao and had serena on the ropes until she got sick. so if she can stay away from the shellfish or whatever, she might be able to pull the upset.

^^^ I wouldn't be shocked if Azarenka won it. She's finally figured out how to win events, doesn't carry around the baggage of being traumatized by the Williams' repeatedly, it's an ideal time for her to move up the ranks (Wiliams' doing the part-time thing, Sharapova recovering, Ivanovic/Jankovic/Dementieva/Kuznetsova are in ruts, Safina's allergic to winning under the big stage), and she knows she has the game to take on any of the elite. She made a fan out of me in that Serena match. She's still young, but wouldn't surprise me if she puts the WTA on notice with a statement win (i.e. Premier, slam) this year.

Looks like Jankovic is fighting to survive. Down a set, but on serve in set 2.

EDIT: Pavlyuchenkova breaks and leads 4-3. Nastya to serve for the match up 5-4.

* Azarenka and Safina appear to make for a QF matchup.
* Zvonareva looks on course for a QF matchup with either Wozniacki or Ula.
* Ivanovic and Pennetta look set for a RD 16 matchup.
* With all the chaos in Dementieva's section, it's quite possible Hantuchova could make the QF. This is like the only tourney she does well at.
* With JJ and the other seeds out on that bracket, KLEYBANOVA looks likely to make the QF.. who'd have thought that?
* With the way things are on her bracket, Agi looks to make the QF as well

Talk about bracket-busting.....YIKES! And of course since is this WTA, watch most of these scenarios fail to materialize.

QF as I see it now:
Azarenka v Safina
Zvonareva v Wozniacki
Ivanovic v Hantuchova
Kleybanova v A. Radwanska

I would bet on Penetta getting to the quarters before Ivanovic, Ana has been all over the place since winning the French last year.

Cibulkova is also out.

Two Americans pulled big upsets, with Alexa Glatch taking out Carla Suarez Navarro and Angela Haynes (!!!) beating Ai Sugiyama!

Kristina Barrois took out Alize Cornet...I got a chance to watch Barrois at a women's pro circuit even about two years ago, and never would have thought this result possible!

Zie Jheng went down easily as well...a bit of a surprise.

Mauresmo is still in there...though I don't think she'll get past Na Li today. Might have to spring for Tennistv just to see that match!

A lot of upsets in women's doubles as well, including the wild card team of Mauresmo/Kuznetsova! They took out the #2 seeds, Medina Garrigues/Ruano Pascual. #3 seeds Raymond/Peschke and #5 seeds Hantuchova/Sugiyama lost as well.

On another note, Vaidisova's slight flicker of hope was extinguished by Jill Craybas, who beat her 6-4 6-3....Vaidisova needs drastic help. I am happy for Craybas, she is one of the tour veterans who refuses to quit and can still throw down some good game when she really puts her mind to it...but she really shouldn't have beaten Vaidisova.

Zvonareva won in straights 6-3 6-1 and Wozniacki had to work for a 6-3 3-6 6-3 win. I give Wozniacki a little slack because Kanepi is a fiesty opponent when she wants to be.

Good for Jill! I thought she might actually give Vaidisova some trouble. Jill has few weapons, but she is in *incredible* shape and will just get everything back. Against an inconsistent big banger like Nicole (who hasn't even been banging all that well for a long time now), that can spell doom!

Kanepi is always capable of pulling off upsets...so good for Woz to pull through!

I agree, good for Jill, she is always good for a scrap and a challenge for an off player (I still remember her win over Serena at Wimby), but I think next round will be the end of her run if she runs into Safina. I am glad Woz pulled through, I really like her personality and her style as she not ust a ball basher, and I think her and Azarenka are girls to watch in the next couple of years to become real contenders at majors, so proving she can beat fiesty opponents like Kanepi is a good start for that. although I don't see Woz winning this Tourny, its a good starting point
