There is no debate that bad technique is one of the biggest contributors for injuries at recreational tennis, and it is easy to spot and possibly fix early. But even if your overall form and technique is great, there could be some specific features in your form or playstyle contribute to an injury over a longer period of time. This happens in pro level tennis all the time, and smart tennis players always adapt the form to enable them longer career. But sometimes these injuries are not obvious, since it may just happens with no correlation to their form or playstyle. In this thread I am trying to enable a discussion and thoughts on some of the recurring injuries on pro level players we know of, and see what is your analysis, specifically if it has anything to do with their playstyle or specifics in their form. Of course I have no interest in talking about some oncourt/offcourt injuries happening from pure accidents (which has nothing to do with their form or playstyle). So for example Federers knee injury, I believe was an accident (feel free to correct me).

Some examples are:
1. Andy Murray Hip injiury
2. Dominic Thiem Right Wrist injury
3. Del Potro Left Wrist injury
4. Rafa Nadal Abdominal injury
5. Rafa Nadal Lower Back injury

The idea is that, life long tennis players at recreational level also possibly could learn from some of these correlations and adapt their playstyle as needed

The only one that is listed that stands out is fed's from slipping in the bathroom to give his daughters a bath. Pity.

I remember reading somewhere that Fed was training so much and so hard that he ended up hurting his knee. So much that he had to stop training midsession often.

I have no way to back this up.

The term "injury" implies traumatic injury, but obviously there are overuse injuries which Pros are going to be more vulnerable to than Rec players.

Congenital vulnerability is, of course equally distributed in the population (between Pros and Rec players).

But Pros are more vulnerable to "bad luck" idiosyncratic injuries like Zverev at RG.

I've said that. That's the most benign explanation.

The other one is way worse. Whatever the case, I don't believe he slipped in the bath.

In case it is a pure accident (badluck), I guess there is probably nothing much one can do by changing their stroke mechanics or play style. I am looking for injuries (mostly overuse injuries) which probably could have been agruably avoided by some changes in their form or technique or play style (possibly with some tradeoff like power or spin). It is very hard to correlate 100% an injury to something like this, which is why different opinions and logical reasonings makes it interesting. Also since these techniques are generally considered good form, there is always a "tradeoff", which makes it a really hard decision whether to adapt/change or not.

For example, I believe Sinner's hip issues has to do with how he generates his extra raw power. But I need to get more into the subtle differences in his mechanics, to make any logical reasoning. Plus I can see how this can be debated.

(I don't think it was either one of those)

I get that but let’s say it was some more nefarious reason. I would make up the most probable excuse I could think of. Slipped in the bathroom drawing a bath for my kids is a very strange excuse to make as opposed to I’m an elite athlete who goes hard every day and I hurt myself in practice.

that's the beauty of it, nobody would suspect you'd let your kids feel eternal guilt for preventing your dad from being the goat, all to hide how the Swiss mafia came to collect

And they threatened him with a Swiss Army butter knife because his game is so smooth.

The 'injury' was right after his loss to Djoko in AO16, right?

Saying it happened in training would have raised questions. Why would he have been training right after the match?

He lost to Djoko on 1/28 and had surgery on 2/3.

Originally I thought that he had probably injured himself in a fit of rage after losing the match. But I have to admit that a silent ban also makes sense.
