Inside/outside groundstrokes

In 2019 I read an article which distinguished between inside and outside groundstrokes, inside being those where the ball does not cross your body before contact, and outside being those where the ball does.

It mentioned that it is easier to hit a higher quality ball on inside groundstrokes, for reasons that I don't recall, referencing baseball in which the equivalent of inside groundstrokes are struck further.

Would anyone know where I can find this article/video? I'm not having any luck searching for it. Thanks

I’m not sure which specific article you read, but if you google ‘Wardlaw directionals’ you will find plenty of literature on this topic.

Would it not be different for baseball in that the batter is side on to the pitcher and if he hits the ball in front of the plate it is an inside stroke and if he hits the ball late it is an outside stroke the ball having gone past his body.

In tennis the ball can cross you body in two directions....... Coming across you left to right (vice versa) and also front to back (ie hitting it early or late).

This would make a difference in how you define and inside or outside stroke in baseball vs tennis.
