INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: First hitting session with the Tour Sniper and I played two sets of singles with it. I was really worried that it was going to feel dead and harsh since it's advertised as pre-stretched. To my delight, it was comfortable and lively and not like Kirschbaum, which is also pre-stretched. Spin was good, but I can't fully comment yet as it was cold tonight and I was struggling to move or find my rhythm. I hadn't played singles in awhile and I could feel it. No complaints so far, which is a good thing. I've had string that I hate immediately in the first hitting session. Anyways, I'll give a full review in a week or so then check back in one more time once it snaps.

Great! We only partially pre-stretch Tour Sniper, to find a good balance between tension maintenance and comfort. Hope you continue to enjoy it, and thanks for the reviews!

TOUR SNIPER REVIEW

Racket: Yonex VCORE 95 (16x20)
Tension: 47lbs
Duration: 6 days (12ish hours)

Power - Score: 60. I'd say Sniper is more powerful than Tour Bite but not too lively. It was great on serves and still controllable with my fast swing speeds.

Spin - Score: 88. Probably less spin than Tour Bite and Hyper G but very marginal difference. It definitely gives me enough to hit out and not have any concern. More than ALU power (regular, soft, and feel; I haven't tried rough).

Comfort - Score: 80. This is one of the areas that Sniper beats both Tour Bite and Hyper G. By 12 hours, both Tour Bite and Hyper G start feeling dead and tight with no give on off-center shots. However, Sniper you have no such problem. The pre-stretch was just enough to keep the playability above average while not making the string uncomfortable like Kirschbaum or 4G. It's still a poly, don't get me wrong. But it's got to be one of the softest strings. Even on off center shots.

Control - Score: 95. The control is perfect. Honestly can't tell a difference between control with Hyper G, Tour Bite, or ALU Power. I know some of the purists for ALU will freak out at the statement but this string is up there in the top tier for control.

Playability Duration: 90. This is where Sniper separates itself from ALU, Hyper G, Tour Bite, and others. Like I said above, they pre-stretched it just enough where the string hasn't become a brassy board but also enough so that you don't feel a massive drop off in playability.

Conclusion: For the price, it's worth it. I'm very happy with my reel and I will keep this as my main for awhile. I even love the first tension I went with, and I honestly do not have any complaints yet. I'm hoping it stays the same up until it snaps. Please don't ever change the formula! Now I need to get some grapple snake swag; you guys need to make some polyester hats.

Thank you for your thorough review! Love to see another happy player. Great idea, we will start looking into offering poly hats. Nice!

Tour Sniper will have a "similar" feel. Its strengths are control, and tension maintenance, which is what you're looking for.

Alpha would also be a good option if you're playing with an older, firmer, less powered Blade.

For the 16x19 Blades, I would also consider Cube and the Neon Hybrid.

I dont read so much about the Cube extra sharp 1.23 which is being sold in EU too. According to its description and some players its nearly the same as Weisscanon ultra cable 1.23 which is however not advised by its manufacturer to hybrid. Grapplesnake advise to hybrid Cube extra sharp to be hybrided with a soft string but then the sharp edges cut into the other soft string i asume. So what about playing extra sharp fullbed like with Ultra cable and normal cube making it last longer and more spin potential?? I m not bothered by its crispiness.

I finally did get a hold of that new Solin

I finally did get a hold of that new Solinco string that is being released in January or Febuary. 6 hours of hitting time gave me a decent feel of it. I also hit with Grapple snake for about 4 hours. Grapplesnake is a very solid poly. Very nice control for shaped poly with muted feel. depth control was very good from the ground. Spin generation was very easy. Power level was on the low to medium side. String isn't very lively so you have to hit out to get the depth. Overall very nice solid poly for players that put premium on control and Spin from their string.

So now to compare the new Solinco poly (Sloan Stevens string) to Grapple snake. You get Tons more power from this solinco, very lively string, ball just explodes off the string bed. but with Massive topspin. Topspin is only way you can control this thing. But surprisingly feel off the string bed is decent to pretty good. You can really feel the ball on the string bed. Also on the serve, you can really make the ball move with spin especially if you use new balls to serve with. Massive movement with power, that is kind of serve you will get. Anyhow, i personally prefer this new Solinco string and will be switching to it when it comes out. This power is tough to control but i am hoping to with higher tension range. and also i will get more used to the string as i pass 10-12 hour mark as well. My best weapon is my serve and i rely so heavily on it in both doubles and singles play. maybe that is why i prefer this solinco string over grapple snake.
How did get to play with this secret Sloane string which is still not being sold in the shops?

I got it from Solinco sponsored junior player who was given several sets of that stuff. He uses Hyper G and didn't like that string so he gave me couple of sets. and I also got few more sets from other people as well

I tested Cube and the Neon hybrid (Cube Extra Sharp plus Liquid Neon Dust) several months ago. The regular Cube as a full bed seemed to lose elasticity and playability around the six hour mark. There was minimal notching at that time. The Neon Hybrid went about eight hours before the Neon Dust cross string seemed to lose too much tension and the entire stringbed lost crispness and control. I cut it out at the ten hour mark and the strings were notched about half way through.

By comparison, V-Square was notched more than half way through before the four hour mark, and the Ultra Cable full bed that I have about six hours on looks to be dented but not really notching.

I took a photo of both Cube Extra Sharp and Ultra Cable. Ultra Cable is on the bottom and CES is on the top:

Cube Extra Sharp has a serrated edge that makes it really sharp - it would probably draw blood if you pressed hard and ran your finger along an edge. The serrations wear down pretty quickly but the string overall retains a lot of the sharp profile throughout its life.

For sure. Even though regular Cube was made to serve the full bed purpose, there are players that enjoy the extra firmness and thickness of Cube Extra Sharp, which is why we offer half reels of it (and half reels of CES Neon Dust as well). I personally like it in soft racquets such as the new Blade 16x19, due to the insane spin potential it gives you.
