I can name 20+ 4.5 / 5.0 USTA rating men would completely disagree cutting out poly after 8-12 hours.

Steve Cohen is 5.0C rated USTA player who plays with three 372 to 374 gram Pure Control Tour Frames (16x20 ) with VCT 1.30mm until breakage. He gets 5-6 weeks out of every frame and plays 3-4 days a week singles and doubles.

thanks for your feedback

dont you notice the drop in feel when hitting the ball (after a certain amount of time)?

to me it feels fairly noticeable

Yes, I notice VCT dropping tension and moving around after 6 weeks or so. That's when it breaks. VCT is my number one choice of strings for 4.5/5.0 men. I have written about it numerous times in multiple threads, but I will steer back to Triax. I love Tecnifibre strings as a stringer. I have 60+ packs of HDX Tour 1.35mm, and two reels of HDMX 1.35mm for the 4.5 guys who don't like full poly and who like hybrids. IMO, Tecnifibre has the greatest family of multis available and I am looking forward to trying Triax and giving it a head to head comparison vs HDMX which replaced HDX Tour (discontinued). There is no way I am cutting out Triax in my own frames until the mains stick out of place on every point.

I played doubles with three 4.5 guys this am. I string for all of them. One is an Orthopedic Surgeon who plays with VCT 1.30mm until breakage with a Wilson Clash 98. He had five Pure Drives and recently switched to the Clash 98. He typically breaks strings in two to three frames a month. He breaks strings faster than most clients I have. Another 4.5 is an Electrophysiologist (a type of cardiologist) who using RPM Blast Rough 1.25mm/HDMX 1.35mm in a Pure Strike 100. He breaks the 1.35mm HDMX. He gives me two frames a month like clockwork. The other guy uses a Yonex VCore Pro 97 with Hyper G 1.25mm and restrings prior to breakage. What's my point? You don't have to cut all polys at the 8-12 hour mark and you can hit and win with polys that last 20-30 hours. Cohen gets 30+ hours on every frame uses with no TE issues.

Let's get this clear: I am a total hack of a player. My serve is a total abomination, with Phil Nikro knuckleball speed, but I can place it where I want it rather effectively. Lost my serve today once and won 2&5 thanks to luck, net cords, and frustrating my friends. ;) Many clients think I'm a pretty good stringer. Not a pro stringer but I have a lot of clients and a lot of repeat customers and yes I buy a lot of strings.

I haven't hit with VCT before (only played with Luxilon/Babolat/Solinco polys), been trying to stay away from polys since coming back from tennis elbow, but may try it in the future

You picked three very stiff families of polys in Lux/ Babolat / Solinco. I have reels of Alu Power, Blast, Hurricane Tour, Hyoer G, Revolution

Yonex Poly Tour Air and Isospeed Cream, VCT, Tier One Boost are all softer choices. RPM Blast Rough is a very soft Babolat poly.

@g4driver when you can handle a 372g frame you probably have a really good level and a good arm also. It's more than Djokovic's racquet (when he won 2016 Australian Open cf. Tennis Spin videos on YT). I guess the racquet absorbs lot more shocks than current standard racquets in stock form. Maybe that's a reason why he keeps his poly 30+ hours without arm issues.

Actually, his Pure Drives gave him TE so he gave them to a 4.5 buddy after I replaced grommets and grips.

You are correct with your educated guess. A heavier frame helps prevent TE as it absorbs more shock. Light weight stiff frames absorb less shock than the same frame with the same RDC/ AOTBE. Example,, a Pure Drive Light vs Pure Drive Tour, the Tour will always absorb more shock than the Team in the hands of the same player.

When you are 5'8" tall, completely deaf in one ear and can swing a 372/374 gram frame vs other 5.0C men for three sets, yeah you get some street cred. He wins and loses at 5.0, but pretty much beats down most 4.5 friends of his, even the ones ones who appealed down to 4.5 The Pure Control Tour is a fairly low powered 63 RDC frame.

I'm not sure this string really answers what people are looking for. It's pretty simple. We all want a string with low string-string friction with comfort of a multi, durability of poly/kevlar and tension maintenance of natural gut. With that string you could set the tensions at whatever you need for power and still feel confident it will spin the ball and not kill your arm.

This seems to be offering a low powered multi. You can get that by upping the tension on the multi, so what solution are we providing? It seems to be similar to velocity which is great but even velocity loses playability once the coating is gone.

You'd think someone would have come up with a slippery as poly string with resilience of nylon by now. Without having to resort to short lived coatings.

I put this in a full bed at 56M/54X of one of my four Pure Aero + frames. They all weigh 342 grams with Fairway Leather grips and tungsten putty. It is a multifilament (nylon) string clearly in the manner it stretches, but it surely has poly fibers in it and feels much different than HDX Tour and HDMX. This string feels stiffer than any other multi or multi/poly fused string by Tecnifibre. I was hitting against a 19-year-old Division One Tennis player last night and her 4.0 father and my partner another strong 4.0 player. If she were a USTA player, she would be a 5.0 or a 4.5S who would get DQed. When I returned her serve, my mains string did not snap back many times. The mains stuck out of place. Perhaps that is due to my frame being a Pure Aero+ with its uber open 16x19 frame. Maybe this string works better in a frame with a tighter 16x19 frame. I could get spin out of it, but polys don't stick out of place on the first outing. I keep wanting to go back to my other frames. We lost 3-6, 6-3, 10-8, and I hit every ball I could turn back to dear old dad.

Another downside: It is expensive and I would much rather have Lux Gut 1.30mm / YPTA 1.25mm, YPTA 1.25mm / Ghostwire 1.22mm, or VCT 1.30mm in my hands in this match. I will try it again tonight, but my first impression as a full bed was not good. Why would I want to pay $20 for a full bed of Triax when I could put a much cheaper string in my frames that last longer?

I see this string's best use as a durable cross with a smooth poly main instead of a standard multifilament in a smooth poly/multi hybrid. IMO, YPTA 1.25mm / Triax setup, Ghostwire 1.27mm / Triax, or Head Lynx/Triax seems like a better use of this string.

It feels nothing like Velocity to me. It isn't as slippery and feels stiffer than some elastomer (rubber infused) polys like YPTA. I suspect it is far more durable than Velocity, and it's going to work best as a cross for players who like 1.30 multi crosses but break them quickly. I wouldn't put this string in mains for a player like Will Shelly a 4.5A down 5.0 who breaks Hyper G 1.30mm / Head Hawk 1.25mm in about 12 hours. But as a cross with YPTA, Triax might work great

Just listening to the podcast after I wrote my comments. Who is JDub? Love this guy! His comments at 35:49 should be a Sticky Thread. I have a few questions and some comments. Is Michelle the friendliest person "on this planet" other than Chris Martin from Coldplay? I am positive she is. Disclaimer: I haven't checked the other planets.

Can someone at TW lease tell Julie G. in Germany the 19-Year Old I hit against last night plays for Arkansas State in Jonesboro, AR? What a small small world. What a nice young lady and so much fun to hit against a player of her caliber compared to a hack like myself. If her dad wasn't on the court, the score would have been more like 1&1 for her. Was Julie the one breaking Triax in 3 hours or was that Kristen? I friend's son's play for Wisconsin so another coincidence. Clearly the women in this Podcast are outstanding players who are fun to hit with and watch hit. I have to finish up the podcast as I string a few more frames this afternoon. Just getting into the Q&A session but want to say thank you for the podcast.

I am hitting singles against a 6'5" 4.0 tonight with his +4 Ape Index and will give Triax another go.

Thank you for answering my question about of the difference of HDX TOUR, HDMX and Triax.

Yep I'm a big fan of Tecnfibre strings and buy when on sale [emoji4]

Down 0-2 with Triax, I called "No Mas" when balls just continued to sail long. Over 2 hours to spilt just two sets and No TB. Needed a frame with full poly to come back in the second set and Barely sneak out a second set.

4 shirts, one beach Towel, 3 hats and 6 six inch Tourna Towel Sweatbands , snd a lot of laundry when I got home.

Yes that may be it's niche. lower powered multi for a cross with Poly mains. I only use gut mains so I'm always looking for a slippery cross. So a soft poly like Cream does the trick and velocity in a pinch if my arm is acting up.

Hah! Reading this just made my friday :)

1) JDub legit is the best and is one of the funniest guys in our office! Any racquet or string description you read on our website is written by this guy! He has his hands full and does a bunch but has a sweetspot for strings. Working to get him on more episodes! He's so savvy and has the best way with words! Check out some of the early episodes with him and Crawford, our TW University Scientist, this episode has a bit more of a background story on him: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podca...erformance-myths/id1475845728?i=1000446744303

2) Hah I've been known to be a bit loud and friendly (but definitely have off days) -- I very much wear my heart on my sleeve and emotions on my face and try to surround myself with people who keep me laughing :) (But I definitely am not always the nicest on the court in the thick of competing...let's just say I'm passionate!)

3) YES! That is the same Julie! Small world!

4) Julie was the one breaking Triax in 3 hours and was doing so on clay; and she has a crazy extreme grip and hits with a bunch of spin (as you probably know!). Kristen was the one who tried it as a hybrid!

5) Thanks for listening! We are hoping to do more fun stuff like this and I have a fun one scheduled with JDub and a guest (currently am getting to try a bunch of string set ups so I can sound some what knowledgable with my guests!)

Best,
Michelle, TW

Sorry for the delayed reply. There are two things that really make me like HDX Tour. 1) It feels closer to X1 than the other two 2) it's Natural Color. That is just a personal preference That doesn't mean I don't like Velocity as a stringer. I string more Velocity than any other string. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't put Velocity in a couple of frames as a full bed or as a cross in a hybrid. Velocity is a string I love for two reasons 1) it's price 2) it's slick

HDMX comes in a reel, unlike HDX Tour. I use all three of these strings primarily as cross strings with smooth poly mains. To me HDMX feels more muted that HDX Tour in a full bed, but like HDX Tour comes in 1.35mm in the US and both of those strings will last longer than the same gauge of Velocity due to the poly fibers in them. So 1.30mm HDX Tour or 1.30mm HDMX > 1.30mm Velocity for durability.

Lastly, I have dayglow yellow Babolat 2016 Pure Aero+ frames. When you put a dayglow yellow string (HDMX) in a dayglow yellow frame and you use a yellow tennis ball, yeah, that's a lot of yellow. So I just have a personal preference for natural colored multis, no stencils on my frame, and clothes that don't match brands.

On a side note, I only wear very light-colored shirts and hats (white, light grey, light blue, and yes day-glow yellow) during our 5 months summer (May-Sept) where the temperature hits the high 80s, and normally 90-95F (32-35C) with 95% humidity to 65% humidity daily. At 7 am, the humidity is 95%, at 8 am it's still 93%, but by 10 am, the humidity is in the low 80% and easier to play with higher temps and lower humidity. I go through 3 shirts, 6 six-inch wristbands, 3 hats, and a beach towel every time I get on the court.

Interesting that tennisNerd is considering switching to it as his main..... from what i ve heard triax could couple well with those that want to play Babolat racquets and could not do it due to arm pain... and without loosing the poly feel too much.

Singles match this Wed was 2+20 after warmup. Most humid day this week.
Doubles Friday am was 2+30 was least humid day.

I have hit 40K steps in a day from tennis twice playing 3X a day in tournaments. Get around 7000 tO 8000 steps per set of doubles.

Finally had a chance to take Triax out for a spin today in my TF40 305. I always string gut in the mains and softer poly in the crosses usually at around 49/47. Triax was super easy to string and once on the court I was impressed. I got a nice boost in free power but never felt like I was out of control. Volleys were able to be hit crisply and the feel and touch was excellent. I am not a player who hits with excessive spin so string movement, especially with the 18/20 pattern, wasn’t an issue.

They’re calling it a multifilament with copoly fibres, so the playability is in between the two. Sounds interesting. Are there any other strings on the market like this?

100G impact on each serve? Really?
It's been a while since Physics 101 but F=ma, so accelerating a 55g tennis ball to 55m/2 (125mph serve not a 45mph serve!) is 3N.

Are you computing impulse correctly? The string and ball are only together for a few milliseconds.

Newton is force there's no time component mentionediin your figures. Something seems missing.

Mind you this is dimensional analysis from the side of the pool with an ale but no pencil and paper <arched_eyebrows>.

Just seems like shock value marketing... no idea how they came up with that number but seems quite insane to compare it to a F1 crash on a medium stroke, 100G seems like a lot.

Just tried out Triax 16g today strung at 54lbs, couple sets of singles.

Did not like it much, it feels like a regular multifilament like PPC or Velocity.

My go to multifilament is Isospeed control and my go to poly is isospeed cream or Yonex poly tour pro (fullbed). I guess I like a dead feel.

Was really hoping this string would feel and perform like a poly but not wreck my arms. However, I think Triax is just easy on the arms and feels just too soft like a regular multifilament.
Not these best of both worlds....
Just my opinion :) 4.5-5.0 baseliner

Seem like mixed reviews here, but I just ordered a set from TW to see how it plays. Usual setup is gut/poly but I occasionally play around with some full gut or multi so I’m interested seeing what this stuff is like.

1.33mm Triax, 1.35mm HDMX , and 1.35mm HDX Tour are battling it out for the mains for a 4.5C former collegiate player in his six Ai98 frames with Yonex Poly Tour Air 1.25mm crosses. Ok, so HDX Tour 1.35mm is discontinued, but I have a lot of it left. Just want him to playtest all three setups before picking his favorite. He has gone through a lot of setups lately trying to find something that allows him to get 10 hours before breaking the mains, and not hurting his elbow. This has been a long process.

Requests: No poly, last longer than 10 hours, and less than $12 a set. I got the price down to $9 a frame for strings, plus $15 labor, so he back to $24 a frame which is what he was paying for Hyper G/ Head Head.

If anyone is looking for a soft setup, these work for Will Shelly, who was bumped to 5.0 in Dec 2019 before he hit the appeal button. He was snapping 1.30mm Hyper G / 1.25mm in roughly 12 hours for two years, until he got TE after a singles league. He snaps 1.35mm Touch Tonic too quickly (maybe 12 hours) to be cost-effective, but he definitely likes the YPTA Air crosses and didn't know it was a "poly" at all. When I explained all four of these strings are blends of different materials, with YPTA a fusion of poly and elastomer (rubber). If he picks Triax, I will certainly get the 1.38mm for him. He has no issue generating massive amounts of spin with any string I put in his frame.

I’m betting that combo plays pretty well too. I’ve got a set of the 1.33mm Triax but haven’t tried it yet. I’ll probably try a FB first in an 18x20 to see how it plays and then look at possible hybrid options. I was thinking with Cream but you’ve got me thinking about PTA.

He liked everything I strung with YPTA as a cross. Grabbing YPTA in a reel gets the price per cross to less than $2.50 USD per cross. Getting Triax or HDX in a reel gets the mains to less than $6.50 per main. So $9 per frame for the strings instead of $17.5 per frame is a plus. $20 and $15 per pack is a deal breaker long term but the doing this from reels makes the combo work.

I have been play testing the HDMX/YPTA setup for weeks and like it. Just wish HDMX came in natural like HDX Tour.

Triax's best use is in a hybrid in my opinion. I hit with it in a full bed and didn't care for it. Same for HDMX.

But HDMX/ YPTA works well. I need more Triax to try Triax / YPTA. Will wait for the feedback from the Will to see what he wants to move forward with.

I just had my first hit with Triax. I'm not a particularly good player, and I haven't tried a large variety of racquets and strings like many members have, so this is just my two cents.

I strung a full bed of Triax 16g in TF40 305 @ 50lbs. One thing I noticed when stringing, the string coating felt a bit grimy, like a dish after a greasy meal that wasn't rinsed properly. It left some residue on my fingers. Not enough to bother me, but just something I noticed. Stringing was pretty smooth. It strings like a multifilament. Took me about 45 minutes to string. For reference, it takes me about an hour to string a normal poly like Hyper-G.

On to hitting. I think it does pretty much exactly what it claims to do. It played very similar to a syn gut/poly hybrid or multi/poly hybrid to me, except the string bed felt more uniform (that's the best description I can think of) as it's the same string in both directions. The string is quite powerful, but I didn't have much issues controlling the power. I can probably go up to 52lbs, but I don't think it would be necessary. I felt very connect to the ball, and it felt very comfortable, although I can't say for sure how much of the feel is due to the string, and how much was the racquet (TF40 is such a great racquet). I like the firm pop when hitting. I was able to hit deep shots back to the opponent even when I'm playing defense several meters behind the baseline (something I sometimes struggle with when playing with full poly). I did notice a slightly higher launch angle especially on open racquet face shots like slice and touch volleys, but it's nothing I can't adjust to. I was able to generate the same amount of spin as I could with a syn gut/poly hybrid. I do hit flatter with a grip between eastern and semi-western, so maybe not the best choice for heavy topspin players.

Overall, it was a mostly positive experience. I would like to test it out more over a few more sessions.. From this first hit, I can see myself switching to this string if it proves to maintain tension well, and doesn't lock up or become harsh.

Any more updates on this string?
How are you guys using it?
I ordered a set from TW and I'm planning on testing it out as a main with soft poly cross and and as a cross to poly mains.

I tried it in a full bed in my Vcore. I'm a long time poly user and Triax is still something totally different. It just didn't have the bite and pocketing I'm so used to, and the same control just wasn't there. On the other hand, if you like multis, it's certainly worth a try. I might still give it another try in a hybrid setup together with some poly.

I was away for quite a bit of time, but had seen Luxilon M2 Pro pop up here and there which sounds similar. String seems to be scarce or discontinued? How do the two compare?
