Irony of people complaining pro tournament surfaces are too slow.

Obviously, people have been complaining for a few years about all the tournaments' surfaces getting too slow. Tons of people complain about grass getting slow enough to where S&V is not viable and it's basically like playing on hard courts. Then people have been saying the hard courts play almost like clay now. Now, I'm accustom to the huge exaggerations around this forum, but I feel like people's concerns are unwarranted.

This year alone, almost all the players have been saying the courts at many tournaments are playing very fast, particularly at the AO, Dubai, Toronto, and Cincy. Is it just me or are the courts at a pretty good balance? So, should people still be complaining that the courts are too slow, and has it been a turn in that direction this year? Just my thoughts.

Federer's playing much better this year; all the courts, including R. Laver Arena, Center Court, Philippe Chatrier, et al. have been lightning quick.

I think it's funny how people complain about the the courts being being slow and wanting to speed them up, but then complain about servebots. Would speeding them up only help them hold serve easier? Just my two cents. But the courts have been playing a bit faster this year from what I've seen.

Yeah, that's the main reason grass was changed in the 90's. Big servers were dominating as apposed to serve and volleyers.

You mean like Sampras???? 90's were his prime, and he is definitely not a servebot, even if he did have one of the best serves of all time.

Toronto is playing faster this year. The Canadians wanted to create conditions that favored Raonic. That was a welcome change. Cincy has always been fast.

Cinci is playing quite a bit slower this year -- much more grit on the court that previous years. Players saying it's playing a good deal slower than Toronto.

Thread title says irony. I was looking for it. Ignoring that, you are aware of the slow hard court discussion sparked after the 2008 AO, I hope. It was not started by people here.

People don't complain about speed, they complain about homogenization. This is not the same. The problem is if all courts are too fast or too slow.

People want variety. Half slow courts, half fast courts.

People don't complain that ALL surfaces are too slow. They complain that SOME surfaces are too slow. Big difference here.
