Sad for Stan the Man, happy for a Mannerino.
Exact same feelings here. Happy for the Wizard Mannarino, but feel bad for Stan. I think Stan could still do something in a best of 3 event, but the conditions at the AO were really tough.
Mannarino is one of those quirky unique French players that I cherish and love.
He is living proof that you can play tennis at the absolute highest level while still using a unique and unconventional style.

His t-shirts looked like he bought off the discount rack in Walmart. I mean c'mon man if you have 11 million get a decent shirt
Dude, that is part of the Mannarino mystique. If you don't get it, you don't get it...

I loved reading about how he watches matches in an inconspicuous hoodie, but if you ask him who he plays next, he has no idea (apparently, will not check the draw). :-D

Mannarino is going to be 36 this year and is at a career high of 19th in the World. That's impressive to play your best tennis in the latter stages of your career and it serves as a lesson to the other players on tour, that it's never too late.

People sometimes get tetchy when the subject of age comes up but I was always under the impression you're in your physical prime in your 20s when it comes to sports...barring darts and snooker.

physical prime, not mental prime

Dube back to you that is not his mystique, it is just the loss of his sponsors, check google he had some great looking shirts.

Not having a sponsor is also part of his mystique. He looks like a classy hippy and an individual, instead of just looking the same as all the others.

It probably doesn't help in this heat though compared to something high tech...

Some more stats on Mannarino: Out of his last 11 5-setters he did win 10. The only loss was against Federer at Wimbledon 2021 - he had to quit due to an injury in the 5th set.
I watched 5th set against wawrinka this week. He made Stanimal look like really old. Mannarino was still running around like a spring chicken, with machine like counterpunching ability.

like i said in another thread. being the player to hit the ball in the court cause a long way in this sport. he is a counter puncher. i used to hate him cause of his style but now I respect it. It is ugly, it is unorthodox, but it is effective and he carved a decent career cause of it. i tip my hat.

He's not just getting the ball in the court. All pros do that. He has a short take back on both sides which allows him to take the ball early. He hits it flat with a low string tension which means it moves pretty quickly through the court despite the short take back and doesn't bounce very high. He hits with great accuracy and often hits clean winners when he is returning, especially when he has a break point. He is no. 1 in the world (equal with Medvedev) for break points converted. He has perhaps the widest slice serve on tour. It's beautiful to watch in my opinion.

He probably should have looked this opponent up.
In this case there aren't any big weaknesses to study so maybe it would have made him even more nervous or had no effect, but I guess it couldn't have hurt given the result... Maybe he should have studied the previous opponents' weaknesses so that he didn't have to play 3 matches of 5 sets before this one.

Maybe he needs to wean himself off the tequila. Pretty sure Novak doesn't drink.

What's wrong with Adrian atm? He's had a really mediocre year with even some stints to Challengers but now he's suddenly found his form again and is making some nice deep runs. What happened? I considered him down and out already and was sure he was about to announce his retirement after this season. Let's all root for him at the Open!

Anybody can beat Fritz, Tiafoe and Paul. Only Ben is the true tennis player after Roddick.
Ben can be exposed by a counter puncher and elite mover as well. While he’s the best American and has upside: someone like Tommy Paul (when healthy) can beat him. Not at the moment though.

Something is wrong with him finding his form again?

Love how this forum equates crappy technique with unique style.
No bingo today Leo? Always trying to stir things up, yet you have little knowledge of the game.

It wasn't always his technique. He had a serious wrist injury and had to change to remain competitive. He's a good journeyman who has made 11 million dollars on the court. Still playing at 37.

I've seen his game live from only a few meters away. It's just mind boggling how he can control the ball with those tensions. The trajectory of his balls that are waist height or above is a straight flat diagonal line towards the baseline or the opponent's feet. His forehand has some arc on lower balls but the backhand is a meer flat slap.

Did I rattle your cage ? You sound shook.

So tell me self proclaimed tennis expert , can't talented people not have a sub par technique?

Are you telling me he has no forehand take back because of a wrist injury?

A journeyman is typically a player who is permanently low ranked and has no career titles, Mannarino does not fit this description. In my view there is no good journeyman, you either are a journeyman or not.
