Is Brian Baker done trying to make it?

He tried hard for a while, got injured, tried again....but lets face it, he was not THAT good. I watched him a couple of times up close and personal. Just like Blake's brother, he was good, but that just doesn't cut it anymore. He probably had the guts to look in the mirror and say " oh well, whatever, time to work for a tennis academy"

He's a guys who wouldve done well to go to college. I totally agree with arosen. Saw him at Kalamazoo, and he looked great. Saw him against Malissa and Moya at USO and thought he's got no shot. He looked slow against both of them. Their serves overwhelmed him on big points.
His game's just not big enough, for a guy with his lack of quickness.

i dont think its a lack of talent for him or thomas blake. its mental. thomas bake is the best practice set player in the world but gets into a tournament and cant get anything done. brian baker had good shots but couldnt put them togther. he would have been a great college player.

I wonder if he actually went back to college or something, he can definitely roll anyone in college tennis. Sometimes though these guys dedicate so much of their life to tennis, college is no longer something they would consider. I agree with above posters about Blake's brother, it always looked like he lacked a little, just a little, whether it was luck, skill, who knows, but it made all the difference. Same for Baker.

I'm not sure whether they would let him play college tennis after he played pro tennis. What are NCAA rules about that, anyone know?

He can't go back and play college tennis. Nike paid him 1 million plus when he signed with them. Let me do some checking and I'll try to give ya'll the scoop. Last I heard he had an injury that happend around USO time last year. It continued until Nov. 06 then he had sugery. I have a feeling he is still recovering.

He's a no name with a million plus in the bank because of his tennis. What's your tennis backround other than hating on tennis players better than you?

Hey andfor,
I think you might be thinking of Brendan Evans with the million dollar Nike deal.
Baker has always been an Adidas guy.
Are you sure?

You're right. I'm mistaken. He did sign a big clothing deal with them when he turned pro. Bobby Reynolds signed with Nike. The both were in Nahsville at about the same time they turned pro. I mixed the two clothing deals up.

Dude, College tennis sucks, there is no point playing college unless u want to stay at the same level and not improve very much, and then after college you go out and play futures and reach 500-600 in the world and then call it a career. No way in hell should baker have gone to college...

Interesting to see a thread about Brian. His family (and there's a lot of them) are members at my club and are in town right now although I haven't seen Brian. I met him a few months ago; seemed like a nice guy. Everyone in the family is tall and lanky like him.

Umm, smart guy I was thinking he might have benefited from a free college education, and still have enjoyed playing competitve tennis.
