Is Diego Schwartzman's Serve Optimized?

Ruud comment on Diego serve, he said "tricky". So yes it might not be the best serve or fastest but tricky and can use to beat Rafa one time on clay (which is insane if you think about it). That I think should be enough to justify Diego serve is very optimized for the game.

Not optimized IMO.

I also don't understand the purpose of him using a 28 inch racket and not going for aces. The main advantage of an extended racket is more margin to hit flat serves.

105 mph is his average first serve speed. His max serve speed in some random matches from a bit back is usually around 115-122mph. See my source for yourself.

As a former uspta tennis pro and NTRP 5.0 I can assure you no recreational players can serve anywhere near as well as Diego.

OPs and others behavior is quite funny to me: I viewed a court level camera of his serve therefore I’m an expert at knowing how good his serve is and I can serve harder/better.

I’ve done plenty of racquet demo events and recreational players all get a big surprise when the “big” servers are only around 70-90 mph. Hilarious.

Serving 120 in the middle of the box, one out of 5, is useless at 5.0 and above.
To be effective in winning tennis, that percentage needs to reach 90% against 5.0+ players.

105 wta average seems a bit high. here's a link which indicates average was 99 mph for 1st and 84 mph for 2nd serves. I have also seen match statistics for Serena several years ago when she was still in her prime where she averaged 102 mph for 1st serves at Wimbledon. For Diego, a 105 mph average 1st serve speed seems about right for 5' 7" male. I remember match stats for David Ferrer who was listed a 5' 9" where he average 112 mph. Maybe Diego could squeeze 3 to 5 mph out of his serve but he's close to his max potential in my view.

The dude hits serves at targets every day (give or take), so of course his accuracy & percentages are going to be better than someone who plays 2, 3 or 4 times a week. That's not to be confused with a 6'3" amateur with an excellent serve who can hit 120+ sometimes, because that happens too on rare occasions, but it doesn't make said amateurs serve in any way better (just in case someone tries to throw that red herring into the mix).

Hah! Sounds like you are calling some posters out: , but that would be cool.

I think the original post was legitimate and interesting, but topics like this often get derailed.

But here's the thing...

Diego Schwartzman is MALE.
Don't say that on twitter or you'll get in all sorts of trouble!! :censored: The Elon Musk takeover isn't yet complete.
Sorry mate, I couldn't resist.

I've been a little antagonistic (unintentionally) towards some posters of late, so I'm going to stay out of this one.
