Is Djokovic a semi-retired or part-time tennis player?

It feels like that. Goes on reaching all slam finals and winning 3 of them, skipping most other tournaments or losing most of them, not playing any tournaments for over 1.5 months now just to play in Paris and the WTF.

Isn‘t he kind of semi-retired at this point? Or maybe a part-time player? I mean he doesn‘t even care about losing this years YE#1? It‘s like he just wants to win as many slams as possible and everything else doesn‘t matter anymore.

What‘s next? Will he just play 8-10 weeks of tennis per year and enjoying his free the the rest of the year? Treating winning slams and the WTF as a hobby or side gig?

I mean, he has played Adelaide, AO, Dubai, MC, Belgrade, Rome, RG, Wimbledon, Cincy, USO and Davis Cup just now. He was still banned from US so probably would have played IW and Miami if he could.

As a 36 year old, traveling across the globe to play a masters 1000 just having won his 24th slam and 3rd of the year I think he rather wants to rest and spend time with his kids. Vienna/Basel he never really played those anyway. He may have cut his schedule alot but he ain't no spring chicken anymore. I wouldn’t say he is either part time or semi retired. It's a normal schedule for a what is in sports terms an aged athlete.

Part-time player. Just playing for majors and rest of season is to kick back and enjoy family time. He’s also think of his haters so they can get break from him. He’s all heart haha

Unfortunately for them the big bad wolf will return though! ;)

Nah, in all seriousness he still plays quite a bit but not as much as he used to. He’s preserving his body well so he can play for longer and try peak for more slams and biggest tournaments for him. He won’t travel like he used to as it’s wasted energy and he misses his family and friends a lot.

He seems to have a good tennis and family life balance now.

He is old, he cannot go week in week out anymore. Those days are gone.

So he builds up his energy to peak only for a few events a year. If he was playing like the others, he would probably burn out earlier in the season and lose early at the slams. His ability to now pick and choose is what allows him to be strong, but only for a small amount of time, each time.

He probably wants to be rested for both the World Tour Finals and Davis Cup Finals. Overplaying at his age would be stupid, and your theory is correct. Here he is saying as much two years ago:

^ Ridiculous level of trolling.

The majors (and the Grand Slam at the top of it all) are what matter in the sport, not easily forgettable, unimportant events which do not define a career.

He does not need to work hard to beat this weak generation. He can wake up, go to court and beat the crap out of weakgens.

The old wolf, even with his free agenda, is enough to defeat all those defenseless puppies that he has had in front of him for years.
:D

Please, move thread to Former pro section...

He was already temporarily retired from Wimbledon 2016 - Queens/Wimbledon 2018. Saturated with tennis, not treating elbow issue, considering permanent retirement, losing regularly to average(or even worse) players...

Now, you could say he is a part-time tennis player, considering his schedule and age. Only priorities are Grand Slams, everything else he plays is just a warm up leading to a slam and he's not taking it seriously.

Next year he will just play and win the slams just to trigger you more.

I’d say saying a player who won 3 slams this year and reached the final of the other slam is semi-retired is pretty flattering, albeit nonsensical lol.
Great point.
Op and some other Djokovic haters try to push the narrative that it would be easier to win slams for all players if they just played less tournaments and only focused on the big ones.

Quite laughable.

That‘s the point of this thread.

Djokovic has become a part-time tennis player and still won 3 slams this year. Imagine if he would still be a full-time tennis player.
