If Djokovic had to play one match with his life on the line at RG or at USO, where would he have the better chance (assuming he wasn’t facing peak Nadal at RG)?

At this point I would say RG. He had to face the most dominant force in tennis history in numerous matches there and would easily have 4-5 RG titles in any other era.
At USO he has consistently disappointed in big matches.

He won USO in his two peak years and didn't win RG in those. Nuff said.

In a dart throw year, I'd probably take RG over USO though.

Djokovic wore himself down by USO quite a few times in his career, and the variety of unique factors that the USO throws at players are all negatives for Djokovic playing clean tennis.

Nine finals at the USO (tbh hard to believe he's been so futile in the title match) 3-6 record
Six finals at RG 2-4 record

Probably should go with the USO, but the youngsters are far more advanced, and consequently more dangerous, on hardcourts. Only a couple match up reasonably well with Djokovic on clay (Nadal obviously, Thiem, Tsitispas, maybe).

His best level on clay is probably better than his best on NA HC, but at RG vs USO specifically he's been better at USO. 2011 USO beats any of his RG performances.

He's lost to two different players in RG finals.
He's lost to five different players in USO finals.
This says a lot more about Rafa than it does Djokovic, though. In good-ish years he's lost to Kohlschreiber, Melzer, Cecchinato, Thiem, Federer, and had to save MPs vs. Tsonga at RG.

He made 11 straight SFs or better at the USO, defeated every champ of his generation there (Federer, Nadal, Murray, Wawrinka, Cilic, Del Potro, Roddick) and been to 9 finals. It's clearly that one.
