Is Djokovic ALREADY greater than Sampras?

Djok now firmly above Pete and honestly, and I know I'm going to get heat for this, if he wins RG this year I think we need to talk about how he measures up to Rafa too.

Then Sampras was better than Nadal at WIM, AO and USO. Does it means he was better than Nadal?
I'm not arguing that Sampras is greater than either of them overall. Djokovic is still in a similar place as Sampras, but gets the nod now for sure. He's not miles ahead of him though, and he's not as great as Nadal. He has more work to do first.

Sampras is still ahead in year end's number one and number of weeks as such. He dominated the tour for longer and during his prime years no one pushed him aside. That's domination. He was not as complete a player as Novak is on all surfaces, but he was the undisputable leader of his generation (and he retired relatively young after winning the US Open). That never happened in Djokovic's case. He shared his dominance with Federer, Nadal and even Murray.

And of course, it's not Sampras's fault that he didn't have to face players of that calibre, you can only beat the player that happens to be across the net in that particular period of time.

I’d say he’s VERY close to Rafa. More dominant tour player, more consistent on all surfaces, multiple WTFs, NO gaps in his resume.
My top 3 now:
1. Roger
2. Nadal/Djokovic (tie)
Nole makes up for the two slam gap in his sheer domination over his peers, the Nole slam, WTF. 40-18 against Rafa and Roger since 2011! Let’s also not overlook the fact that he’s now on another consecutive slam streak and aiming for a second Nole slam!

Great cherry picking.

Sampras wouldn’t have been close to 14 slams if he’d have been battling Fed on HCs/grass as Nole has.

2011 to today is mostly the Djokovic era. He didn't really share dominance, Nadal did well, but Djokovic overall did far better and was on top much more often. And Federer was almost never on top in that span and managed only 4 slam total (vs 16 for Djokovic) and no Year End #1s so forget him. Djokovic is as clearly the best player of the last decade just as Federer was the decade before that, with Nadal the obvious 2nd in both cases. And except for the stretch from Wimbledon 2017-Wimbledon 2018 I am pretty sure he was the bookies favorite to win for every single non French Open from Wimbledon 2011 until now and everytime he lost it was an upset.

The only way you can say Sampras was more dominant is the 6 straight YE#1s but by that logic Sampras was even more dominant than Federer and we know that isn't true at all. Djokovic was #1 in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 convincingly and narrowly missed in both 2013 and 2016. Yet both years were far better years than Sampras's 1996 and 1998, both which he ended #1 with relatively mediocre years due to very poor competition.

Djokovic has a much better all-round game.

But he also has the advantage of longer-careers era and better equipment era.

I'd like to know how many slams Novak would win with Sampras's pathetic 80s small-frame Wilson...

I wonder what the FedFans who believed themselves to be the final arbiters of these discussions will do when Federer has been surpassed in slams by Nadal and Novak and run down in his seemingly insurmountable weeks at #1 by Novak.

It truly is inevitable; sooner, not later! It's got to be shocking for him! Roger blew Sampras out of the water after just 8+ years, now he'll be surpassed before he retires! Most of his records are in jeopardy except for sustained excellence since he's played on the tour for over 20 years now! He's already behind in Masters' wins by both Nadovic and's barely holding onto the "major's" record! His tenure as the king @#1 will be done before the yr. is out unless Nole truly falls from grace over the Spring!  :-D

Most of them will dissapear. The majority of them already are starting to.

My bigger question is what the heck will happen to this place when the Big 3 and Serena retire and there are no more current GOAT discussions or either "Serena is great, Serena sucks" discussions. Will anyone still even post here?

Fans of a certain player are notorious for disappearing when he isn't winning, and it's not Federer fans. And how would you know that a majority of Federer fans are disappearing if you just joined TTW in January?

The Former Pro Players section is gonna get a lot nastier once the Big 3 are gone but their fanboys are still around. I feel bad for those old fogeys. They don’t know what’s coming.

Sampras was better on grass but no FO.....

Not even a FO final! He did defeat a couple of FO champions on his way to a SF and a couple QF, but that was it! At the time we were ready to overlook the fact that Pete not only never won a FO, he never even played a final! How the mighty have fallen in comparison to Fedalovic in comparison to past greats like Sampras, Laver, Borg, Connors, & McEnroe! They've been dwarfed in half the time! :-D

Do you believe the only way to view this forum
Is if you have an account?

Djokovic is greater than Sampras and may turn out to be the greatest of them all.
I think most reasonable Federer will be ok with that.

If anything, Federer seems to be on the mind of non-Federer fans and trolls more than the Federer fans anyhow, judging by the forum.
