He's nowhere near to being versatile. A versatile player can play all different types of tennis (baseline or SV), has all the shots in his repertoire, basically can win a match employing all kinds of different strategies.
Djokovic can't SV (and I don't mean occasionally but really employ it as a strategy during a course of a match), can't slice, can't chip and charge, his overheads and volleys are comical for a player of his caliber etc. etc.
He's a pretty bad doubles player and has won only 1 doubles title in his entire career.
He's basically winning all his matches by playing in the same manner, hitting deep baseline shots, playing as a human backboard etc. etc.
He's complete for today's standars and this so called 'modern tennis' where you don't need to come to the net but speaking of all time, not even close.
Ah I meant versatile as in his versatility to play well on all the different types of court, not having any real weakness (worst surface is grass, yet he has 2 Wimbledon's).
In terms of most complete player, I would maybe call Djokovic the most complete player in defensive aspects. On the offensive, as many have mentioned, he doesn't have a strong S&V game, you can tell that he's not as natural at it, it comes from his hard work. Defensively though, there isn't really anything he can't do. Imo, I always thought that when people played Nadal and he was defensive, it seemed that you had to win 2 or 3 extra shots to win the point. With Djokovic, it seems that you simply cannot win the point, there isn't anythjng he can't return, it's almost impossible to hit through him.
