Is Djokovic superstitious about bread?

Maybe this is common knowledge but I am out of the loop. I always knew Djokovic claims to be gluten intolerant or celiac or whatever, but I had never heard the story of his diagnosis:

Cetojevic told Djokovic to stretch out his right arm while placing his left hand on his stomach. The doctor then pushed down on Djokovic’s right arm and told him to resist the pressure. The strength Djokovic would feel in holding firm, the doctor said, was exactly what he should experience.

Next Cetojevic gave Djokovic a slice of bread. He told the bemused player not to eat it but to hold it against his stomach with his left hand while he again pushed down on his outstretched right arm. To Djokovic’s astonishment, the arm felt appreciably weaker.
Does Djokovic really believe that being in the presence of bread products saps his bodily energy?

If so that is hilarious.

Djokovic has a celiac allergy. I don't think that means being near bread makes him feeble or anything but I'm not an expert. I have a friend with celiac and we eat bread around him all the time.

Why can't you just read threads from 8 years ago instead of making everyone repeat themselves for a 100th time?

He doesn't have celiac disease, but is gluten sensitive. Harder to diagnose, but he's pretty much a perfect example (not his diagnosis though, that's for sure).

He specifically states in his book that he does not have celiac disease, but rather an unproven syndrome of “non celiac gluten intolerance”.

Most people drink the Kool-Aid when it comes to bread and carbs in general! It's a poison to our system! It's been a myth all these years about it being enriched and beneficial to our health! For some of us, it makes us bloated and uncomfortable! Since starting "intermittent fasting" along with a little KETO, weight and inches have dropped off with no exercise! I'm almost 63 and feel better than I did at 53! I haven't needed my c-pap, the doctor's thrilled with the weight loss, and he took me off the list for possible onset of diabetes! Years ago, like most people, I ate bread or toast with every meal! That's a killer for some! I'm not going to tell people to stop eating bread, but cutting down on ingesting it will be beneficial to some out there; probably clear up another ailment!

hey if it works, it works

That's what I say; even if it's only in his mind! His stamina has obviously improved! IIRC Nadovic played the longest 3 set match in Madrid going 4 Hours! Endurance and a lack thereof probably cost him that match against Rafa! Nadal might have won that '12 AO match but for Nole giving up gluten; almost 6 hours on court! :cautious:

It's honestly quite inspiring. I mean, obviously going vegan/gluten free won't work for everyone, but we should all try to be at least a little conscious of the food we're eating.

That test was not even single-blind. It's terrible science -- pseudo-science. I would treat anything written in the kind of book Djokovic is releasing as, at best, apocrypha. Publishers insist on sensationalist nonsense in that sort of book. Djokovic is just being a salesman.

Did you read my post above on "IF" and KETO? There's plenty of information online, esp. videos on You Tube that talk about the subject ad nauseum! There's probably opposing info out there, but in this country we're idiots and believe in "Alternative Facts!" I know bread, gluten in particular makes me feel rotten! Cutting it was a Gawd-send 2 years ago! ;)

That's actually a pretty amusing story.

I was actually surprised at first as I'm seeing a chiropractor (for tension in my back) at the moment who is using a similar technique (not so much the bread, but holding my arm outstretched and using it as a gauge for potential weakness).

I left the first session highly skeptical, but the sessions were covered by my insurance, so i thought what the heck. After about the 3rd session I noticed my back feeling better, and now 10 sessions later, I'm definitely a lot better than I was.

I can't say I actually understand exactly what it is he's doing (wasn't the manipulation kind, was basically just tapping areas on my body to see if they interfered with the strength in my arm) but I definitely can't argue with the results.

Hijacking a boring thread-- who's the girl sandwiched between Borg and Henman? It's not either of their wives, who is this? There are 48 slams represented in this pic.

Which photo? If it's the same one I am looking at @Mainad is right, it's Anne Keothavong. I think she might be even fitter and more beautiful now than in her playing days.

Americans tend to be carb addicted, but low carb works just as well with mod protein/mod fat as with keto. Studies are not bearing out that there is a metabolic advantage to ketosis. Not well done studies anyways.

Regardless, excess calories from carbs causing weight gain and celiac disease or this questionable “non celiac gluten intolerance” are very different phenomena because the latter implies you can eat carbs that don’t contain gluten without issues.
