Yes, I made the point earlier that crowds will probably like him more now that they realize he’s 34 and his careers winding down. Think what you will of him, he’s still a legend of the game who’s nearing retirement.

Would be funny to see him get this support everywhere but then immediately have to flip the switch if he plays Rafa or Roger again.

Well the commies mentioned a lot of them were Serbian and had serbian flags. While he DEFINIELY got more American support than usual, part of it was all the people in the previous round hoping he was lose had given up by this point. Those that bought tickets to the final were more likely to be Djokovic supporters than other rounds.

Yes, especially against next-gen.. As John McEnroe said, he will probably receive more admiration in the later end of his career than expected.

He had significantly more crowd support at AO final, French Open Final (against both Nadal and Stefanos), Wimbledon Final and of course this US Open.

He is a great loser and speaks highly of all his compatriots. Not only that but when he makes a mistake he always acknowledges it.

It might turn more into a 60-40 split when he plays against Nadal and Federer, but he became quite beloved this year. When Nadal and Federer are done, he will 100% be the most liked player on tour without a doubt. Even then the fanbases have steadily been liking Djokovic more (look at his numbers on social media for example)

Please can I get a reminder of all the things he’s said and done over the years to have acquired a bad reputation until recently?

Probably at the Australian, yes, but then he’s never really been disliked there, has he? Wimbledon will be the big one. Can he soften the British stiff upper lip?

He definitely had more crowd support than Berretini despite the Italian being the underdog. Usually not the case

Don't be ridiculous michal. Serbian community across the entire planet outside of Serbia is not more than one of two millions, its not like they all flew to his match or something..
People tend to have flags of their favorite's country regardless of their nationality. For example I waved indian flag at stadium in the 2015 world cup semi final between india and australia, but I'm a Pakistani by birth.

He's always had a large support group in Australia, I thought?

It's just that he noticeably has lot less at the other Slams.
Thats because many serbian origin people stay there. But still against Fed he had the less support whenever they played most recently in 2020
