Please do tell :p Always want to hear stories from those who actually met the pros.
Sharapova - as icy as she appears. Was dating Dimitrov at the time and they were so quiet and basically any room she walked into went quiet. Powerful and cold.
Kvitova is super lovely, made time to have a chat and say hi to staff/volunteers.
Ash Barty is hilarious and so nice and down to earth as you imagine she would. Same with De Minaur.
Zverev was incredibly rude and standoffish. Not nice.
Raonic was actually really shy but super nice and friendly.
Federer is also just so friendly and humble as are the people around him.
Not to put them all in a box but the American men were incredible entitled and rude. Isner, Steve Johnson and Fritz particularly.
Had a good conversation with Cristian Garin
And Sascha Baijin is truly unbearable.

Weird. Steve Johnson always comes off as a pretty down to earth guy… you met all of these players at the Aus Open?

She does have that allure going by first impressions. Like that girl in your highschool class who is super into her and very entitled.

Good to hear. Definitely feel for her after what she went through and happy she's back at a competitive level.

Yeah, they seem like great people to hang out with. By the way, how often do you meet your fellow Aussie pros?

Zverev was incredibly rude and standoffish. Not nice.
So all the Zverev memes do seem to be true unfortunately.

Federer is also just so friendly and humble as are the people around him.
So envious you got to meet the great man himself :p

Don't know who Owner is.

Given the state of American tennis in the last decade, they really have no reason to feel entitled.

Thanks a lot for sharing. If you don't mind me asking another question, which pro, male and female (so choose one from both genders) would you hang out to have a drink with if you could tomorrow? :p

Isner autocorrected to owner :-D

I used to see a few Aussies a fair bit but not really anymore.

And if it’s just one drink I’d probably choose Federer cause like who else? Haha I would love to learn about him from the man himself. If it’s for a fun time with multiple drinks and a party time then Nick Kyrgios who I don’t think I mentioned but is actually really nice and humble. Clear that he puts on a persona and is different when it comes to tennis and interviews and on court stuff.

The women well it has to be Serena Williams. Same reason as Federer. She’s the best.

Yeah, I'd like to hang out with Fed too. All the Big 3 seem like nice guys to have a drink with. Djokovic does have his off-putting moments, but I think he'd be fun to hang out with.

Yeah he’s very nice. Quite a few are but have some stories on who’s not ha.
Do share. I have hears Isner Murray and Fritz are not exactly have a beer with type guys. Thiem is a great guy as is Djokovic. Roger is cordial and Nadal very shy. Dimitrov said to be a great guy. Not sure on Tsitsipas Medvedev zverev.

Can confirm Darcy comments about the american players. I have actually met Sharapova and she was very cordial and happy to chat but it was in a very quiet environment away from a large crowd. I would think in more busy places she would be very guarded and stand offish.
Interesting what Darcy says about Zverev.

Fritz is an absolute piece of work. Isner as bad as is Querrey. Tiafoe is a lovely guy.
sharapova i found to be really nice but it was a quiet place i briefly bumped into her. I woukd think anywhere more populated she would be very icy.
thiem djokovic and dimitrov are said to be the nicest guys with the average joe public. Roger is very cordial and Rafa super shy. Murray least approachable of the Big 4.
Of players past Agassi was and is lovely in person. Courier is an absolute tool and has not changed. Sampras is impossible to approach. He pretty much now refuses all interviews apparently.

Confirm Dimitrov. Among the nicest. He was nice as a junior and he’s never changed.

All of this makes sense.

The American thing especially. That entitlement is exactly why we suck.

Fritz seems weird. I can’t put my finger on it exactly.

Never had the chance to meet Peque, but the very few players that I met, especially Nadal, he is listed as 1,85m and in 2013 I had to raise my head to ask him an autograph. I guess that since Diego is listed as 1,70m, I should be taller than him.
Had a good conversation with Cristian Garin
Since I'm Chilean, I'm quite surprised by this, considering Gago is considered here of the most "weird" guys of all sports stars. He really gives me the very introverted, I-hate-everything personality, or maybe he really hates the Chilean media. Would really like to hear a more complete description on your meeting with Garín.
He only has one defect. He is a Boca Juniors fan, an extreme fan to make it worse.
Most Argentine players tend to be Boca and River fans, except Gaudio who support Independiente.

Let me interrupt this thread about Diego Schwartzman to name drop players whom I've had fleeting exposures with but am comfortable declaring them as either good people or bad people (read: 'waaah, someone didn't give me, a total stranger, the time of day).... Could you maybe share with us about how about Frances Tiafoe is an entitled creep?
Yeh obviously their behavior and your impression will be a function of context and your own behavior too. But I‘ve never heard a bad word about Tiafoe.

Oh I’m not media or anything, I had to sort out a problem for Garin and he was just really nice and understanding :)

Never heard a bad word about Tiafoe, Federer, Dimitrov. Everyone says Rafa is respectful but shy and doesn't want to linger.

when it's just one story, ok...but patterns emerge

Agree.

As for Rafa, leave TTW for the physical world and good luck trying to find someone that has a bad word to say about Vamos. VAMOS!

Haven't met Steve Johnson, but I saw him at a really small tournament at the Berkeley Tennis Club. He won me over that day based on how nice he was to the ball kids - calling them all by name and saying please and thank you to them.

Hearing all this about Diego's height, me at 5 7" suddenly have more self respect (I am actually avg height for my country, but I have read most Europeans and Americans are taller than my height)

Never interacted with Tiafoe, i'm sure he's wonderful, that poster is deciding to be negative and nasty for no reason for what was otherwise a nice thread.
Yeah but you made a sweeping generalization about "entitled Americans" in general (and what's more you prefaced it with a phony-baloney "not to put them all in a box" disclaimer. No big deal, just own it Rusty. Btw, Tiafoe? Good dude.

You see him on television and he does seem shorter, more in the 5"4-5"5 range. But overstating your height in sports is typical. It's quite rare to have an exact height listed. Part of it is shoes since that legitimately does give a player an inch up but most from what I've seen give themselves 3-4.

I funny enough have had my height listed below but not because I chose that, I simply didn't pay attention. I was listed at 178cm from my driver's license I got at age 16 which was a guess I made at the time and I was one of those kids that grew quite a bit from 16-19. That height went unchanged on my licenses thereafter (you get 3 tests for your full then 5 year renewals) until I changed it to 181cm doing wrong calculations in my head and thinking 180+ is good. Little did I recognize I am actually 185cm without shoes. So par for the course I could easily list myself as 190cms but I'm 181 because I no longer play competitively and it's only ever going to come up with someone looking at my driver's license. I have also met a few athletes who had similar things happen, but like I said quite rare to understated your height in sport.

So is Delpo. What are you going to do? Nobody's perfect ;)

Edit: posted too soon, I see this was already mentioned...
