Well? most of the thread titles i can see are kinda dancing around it but what do you think?
not gonna lie i want to see it happen. just to witness it in my lifetime if for no other reason

will he screw it up? it's on his racquet obviously but can he do it? more importantly, will he?

I mean I feel the Olympics are a huge factor. Say he wins Gold does he then skip Toronto and Cincy to focus on USO? If he loses early in Tokyo does he then play both tournaments? So many factors at play. Still too early to make a decision.

I can see him losing to a Next Gen, as much as we trash them USO has been their most successful turf and arguably Novak's u luckiest given how many times he has lost in the SF/F stage, injuries, the default etc.

If we get a Djokodal final, I see Djokovic winning it even though Nadal's had the edge over him here for most of their careers. 4-4, 2-2 if we see them in a final

I think some outside factor has the best chance of stopping it, like him testing positive for covid and having to withdraw, or the uso getting cancelled for whatever reason.
that'd be some **** fr

we'd never hear the end of it, and although that might be true either way, it would be way better if the fuss was about an achievement rather than the lack of one

I've never seen a CYGS happen. I wasn't watching tennis in '88 and was too young. Serena crumbled emphatically in 2015. It would be something to witness if it happened.

yeah it really would. i never thought it would happen in the modern game at least on the men's side. it's a funny old world

Me neither. Tbh, some of this stuff that Djokovic is achieving didn't seem that possible because it's way harder now (NCYGS, double career Slam). When Sampras/Agassi were playing a single career Slam seemed almost impossible and of course it was more polarizing than today, and not many players were all surface players.

i generally hate comparing eras but fitness has clearly just reached another planet in the last couple of decades in sport. i'll be interested to see how far novak and future goats can take this

Well I think Djokovic as well as the other two members of the big 3 have already set the bar very high. It's going to be interesting to see who will step up and try to challenge these records in the next 2 or 3 decades. I don't think Nadal's RG will be challenged though and probably most of his clay records.

Yes, I think Nadal will win Washington

He’s got a good chance but the pressure will obviously be immense. It’s between him, medvedev, Tsitsipas and maybe outsiders like shaps, Zverev or nadal could threaten.

Personally I see the top 2 favourites being Djokovic and medvedev with Tsitsipas and zverev not far behind.

I believe he's pretty vulnerable at OG in 3 set matches, he may easily lose a match or two from some next-gens, like at WTF last few years. If he can't get the gold, I hope at least for silver or bronze.
USO - he has better chance there. I don't see him as a dominant favorite. All it takes is one bad day for him to lose.

There's a thing called context.
I refer back to Serena Williams in 2015.
And not just that, lately Djokovic is at his most vulnerable in New York.
The idea that it's "easy" to win Slams and that they're already in the bag cheapens the unbelievable effort he's putting in.
That's what I'm saying. Slams are hard to win.

So much on the line too:
#21, making him stand alone
the Grand Slam, not achieved since 1969
the Golden Slam, if he wins the gold medal in Tokyo.

I can't imagine any more pressure than this.

Will have to play plenty of cards and chess with his coaching crew to get him through the days.

Nole seems to be cursed at the Us Open like Rafa is at the AO. I don't know why but I feel he'll lose early.
He’s won it 3 times already so he’s less cursed than Rafa is at AO. Rafa is not even the 2nd favourite to win it after Novak. His form and fitness just isn’t there. It won’t get any easier now too.

Fair enough, I thought that was sarcasm.
Both messages were troll but not in a "you're being dumb" kinda way, more playful, so because you took the first one so seriously I went meta. The reality is that this Slam will be like no other for Djokovic. The trick for him is to somehow make it like the others.

He is a lock. The tour is like 3 levels below what Djokovic is

Have not seen such abysmal levels in a long time with respect to the leader and it is not that is peak Djoker here

well, you are facing Berretini and Tsitsipas who cannot win 1 of 3 sets against a 34 year old.. LOL. What pressure are we really talking ?

Djokovic will have belief 2 sets and 0-5,0-40 down

That's absurd.
His last two Slam finals went to 5 and 4 sets.
It's not like he's winning Roland-Garros 6-0 6-0, like Graf did when she did the Golden Slam.

also when did a male player last get this close? im not sure anyone since laver has even got this far
They haven't.

Borg lost in the final of the 3rd slam of the year (at that time, the US Open) in 1978 and 1980.

He lost 4-6 in the 5th set of the 1980 final, so he was at most three games away from doing it.

Nevertheless Novak Djokovic is closer.
