It’s funny how things pan out haha. A few good omens there. I doubt he will match his 2011 record. However, he looks in the zone and determined to keep his winning streak going as long as he can.

Novak looks relaxed and confident. He’s playing great tennis and he’s so mentally strong right now.

Edge of Tomorrow, if you like Tom Cruise.

To someone who follows Novak's career, it is obvious what the inaugural ATP Cup win can do for Novak. The difference from 2011 is now he can win while playing his B/C game since he is more experienced and the field is much weaker.

I do agree with what you saying. That gave Novak energy and big confidence. We know how patriotic he is. It certainly bodes well for him and us fans. Just like it did in 2011. I just don’t want to get to carried away. Things can turn real quick but right now things are going great for Novak and us fans.

He’s motivated by the no1 records too. Every match and tournament for him is of big importance this year. Plus when you build up a winning streak it gives you motivation to see how long you can go and what new milestones you reach. I feel he may slip up at some point, as the law of averages suggests. However, it’s gonna take some special performance to beat him at present.

Let’s enjoy the 2020 ride. It’s gonna be fun.

Nah, those first nine months of 2011 were something else. But he can still win the biggest tournaments which is great. I didn't think he'd still be this good nearly a decade after his first dominant run.

Exactly he will never repeat that. That was insane. If he can go unbeaten until Miami this year that would be some achievement. We just have to take it match by match and enjoy it. As things can turn real quick.

Even winning Dubai won’t be easy. He strong favourite to reach final but Khachanov and Monfils are playing well so not easy. Then of course Tsitsipas could be in final which would be a tough match. Lots can happen so not looking past next match. However, Novak is playing very well at moment and his mental state is great too.

Just catched Groundhog Day here on TV in my country .. and I'm wondering.. is there any more movies with this 'repeating the same day' theme? Not as good as Groundhog Day for sure.. but gimme some suggestions.

I love time travel movies .. and this theme is sort of time travel ..
Might love the Supernatural episode "Mystery spot". I am sure if you have a bit of knowledge of the series.

Please, did he not lose to Fed in the FO that year, I was hoping against hope for Fed to tank, Djoker would definitely have taken out Nadal in the final, but like an idiot Fed beat Djoker and lost another final to Nadal even though Nadal was playing like crap.
Fed won't be a problem this year, Thiem will.

Just thought I’d add also that Nadal lost in quarter final of AO 11 too ;)

Novak seems on a mission. Like 2011, he might win 3 slams.

There's a strong outside chance of him winning all 4 slams as well. If he does win CYGS, then hopefully everyone can agree that he is the GOAT and get on with our lives.
One good thing will be the endless Fedal debates will stop.

Do you really believe the debates will end? The cat and others rather die than admit someone else as a Goat.

If he gets the Grand Slam, you can bet he would be acknowledged as the GOAT by most tennis pundits and maybe even by the majority of tennis fans. I would not hesitate to call Novak the GOAT if he gets the Grand Slam.

Source Code, Edge of Tomorrow, and Blind Chance all dabble in similar terrain!

Good post. Agree 100%. He would be GOAT if he got CYGS. But I think it is still a small chance for him to win all 4 slams. Meaning very unlikely. And I don't say this because he won't win the French Open.

He might win in Paris. Especially if Nadal slips up or gets Thiem+Novak together. But then, the pressure would be excruciating in Wimbledon and UsOpen. Especially at the UsOpen. Since Laver, no one has come to the UsOpen after holding ALL 3 slams in the same year. So no one knows that pressure. Fed and Novak always lost at the French, so we knew CYGS wouldn't happen. But imagine coming to the UsOpen knowing that winning the slam would be the most significant achievement in the history of the game.

Can Novak deal with THAT pressure? Can anyone?

The ATP Cup/Davis Cup preceding his AO victories were the only parallels I thought of this year. Didn't know there were so many other similarities.

But he won't!

When general public think about bodybuilding, Schwarzenegger comes to mind (7 time Mr. Olympia champion). Not the guy who won it 8 times in a row (Ronnie Coleman).
When general public think about tennis, they think about Federer, not some guys that will end up having more slams or had won CYGS twice.

As a Novak fan, I do not expect of public to acknowledge his potential CYGS anything more than they did his NCYGS. He did 4 in a row already, who cares if they were in the same calendar year...
Would love to watch him in a RG final this year.

Groundhog Day is a great film, but it's only the second film with the 'repeating the same day' theme. Five years before, in 1988, Vladimir Khotinenko made a film called Zerkalo Dlya Geroya [The Mirror for a Hero]. Excellent film also.

There will be the most popular tennis player, or the poster middle aged man of tennis.
And then there will be the best, the most successful, and the greatest of them all. This is what Novak is fighting for.
