Is HyperG Soft significantly lighter than HyperG?

No, and thinner gauge hyper g is going to be better than hyper g soft. I'd consider 18 gauge soft

HyperG 17 is stiffer than HyperG Soft 16L, not sure what's your point.

And playing with 18 gauge only possible if 3.0 doubles is all you play.

Point is 17 gauge hyper g feels as soft as 16l hyper g soft. And it's much more performant. Hyper g 18 is soft enough to be in soft poly category. Try HG 17 if you want to try something lighter. Lasts far longer too. HG 18 is sweet in 18x20s if you don't break it..... even at 4.0/4.5 singles... Obviously might not work in open patterns

Hyper g 20 gauge is where it’s at. I can’t wait for solinco to come out with hyper g soft 20 gauge the next goat string!

I love hyper G soft and never liked hyper G. Based on experience, a higher gauge hyper g is not like soft in feel (hyper g is significantly stiffer) and hyper g soft maintains tension extremely well. It is not like tour bite soft with tension maintenance, which is poor. I’m very hard on strings - semi-western FH 5.0 player. I could never use an 18 gauge - it would last me two sessions before the strings started shifting.

What do you like better about soft version? Just for comfort or other reasons also?

not a 5,0 but I too never liked Hyoer G, but I have been using Hyoer G Soft 1.25mm mains / Ghostwire 1.22mm cross since the HGS playtest ended. It lasts me roughly 20 hours before the strings are sticking out of place..

I have tried HyperG soft 17 and GW 17 hybrid at 48/48 and it felt really soft in Prokennex Black Ace Pro. Then tried full bed HyperG soft 17 full bed at 48 and I could feel a noticeable difference in comfort. Felt less comfortable than the hybrid. GW definitely softens up any string bed. I am going to string my second racquet with the HGS/GW hybrid setup tomorrow to have a direct comparison.
