I think Deutschland is a good candidate for the title.
And the same as always: England, Italia, France, Netherlands, Brazil, and why not, Argentina.

First round between HOL and ARG will be a pretty interesting matchup to see how the competition will go ;)

I find its kinda pointless to even START the world cup......everybody knows the Brazillians are gonna rape everyone....

My call is still Germany ;)
Brazil and Italy as 2nds
France, England and Holland as 3rds
Argentina as fourth.

i personally think that argentina, being from the same continent, and with up and coming stars like lionel messi, will give brazil a real run for their money. italy have also been playing excellent, knocking off germany 4-1 only a month ago.

my top 3: argentina, brazil, italy (in no particular order, id luv to see italy 1st thou ;))

4th: probably england or the dutch, england are known as chokers thou. oh and france, henry and tresugaet is nearly a dream forward line...

ukraine will not go far, because they are a 1-man team, even if that man is the best striker in the world...

1 more thing...if italy win their group, and australia come second (presumably to brazil), then they will play each other...i am torn to shreads as to who to go for! AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHH!!!!!

Argentina will not pass 1st round. Im telling ya right now. Half of the team has been/ is injured including: Mascherano, Gonzalo Rodriguez (hell miss it), Ayala, Messi, Aimar, Heinze... also, we dont have a reliable goalie.
Germany has a big chance as they are the hosts.
Holland will do SF. Spain is way overrated, Enland r chokers (as someone said), Italy´s game is pure crap. Myabe France or Mexico (yes, sir, MEXICO)can do something interesting...
The big surprise is gonna be Côte d´Ivoir.

Brazil will do their 6th.

Nah. I simply can't. The only reason I follow the national team's matches, it's because it's in our blood. If I'm out there shooting some hoops in my yard, and there's some match of our Seleccion Nacional, my arms keeps shooting some threes, but my legs goes running to the nearest TV, you know? By inertia.

I really don't like futbol at all... but I cant help it

England beat Argentina in a friendly and in the 2002 World Cup. On paper England are probably the 2nd best team behind Brazil. Rooney, Owen, Lampard and Gerrard possibly the two best central midfielders in the game, if not they are certainly up there. Not to mention Terry, your not getting past him in a hurry! Seeing him week in and week out he never makes a mistake.

As said before though, they do get unlucky (Euro 2004 and Urs Meier) and loosing on penalties in 3 major tournaments out of 5, penalties can go either way so I don't really think you could say they choked it away. Yes I agree they did losing a 2 goal lead to Portugal in 2000 but losing to Germany in 1996, Argentina in 1998, Brazil in 2002 and Portugal in 2004 could each of gone either way.

i'm english (or claim to be anyway) and i think that they have a good chance this year, argentina always can be dangerous but this is not one of their stronger teams, same with germany although they have home field advantage, italy has a decent side, and could go far or crash out early, same with the us (from that group as well), france for me anyway, constantly underachieves (euro 2004) but can be brilliant on their day, and there are several other dark horses (mexico, south korea, ecuador, poland, czeck)

all that said, no one, and i mean no one can hold a candle to the pure talent and completeness of the BRAZILIANS... they have one of the best sides they have ever put together, from goalie to defense, to their unstoppable midfield and front lines... EVERYONE on that team can score from almost EVERYWHERE... it will take them playing poorly indeed (and their opponents getting lucky as well) to keep brazil from claiming another title...

i'll naturally root against them, but i have to say, they are fun to watch, truly the defintion of the beautiful game...

I don't even know why they call the American Football, "Football", since they barely use their feet.

Totally nonsense, IMO.

Andres, nice prediction dude. I'm looking forward to the potential Germany vs. England matchup....talk about street riots in Berlin!!!!!! WOOOOOOOO

Btw, I don't think Brazil will win it again this time around. They lack a good defence.

Peace.

Mr. Alex (or is it Dr. Alex?) Brazil ALWAYS HAD A CRAPPY DEFENSE, and almost always had a pityful goalie (not this time IMO). The sad sing for us not brazilians is that they dont needa good defense. They do just fine with ther ronaldinhos, KAKAS (in capitals), ronaldos, adrianos, robinhos, serginhos.... etc ad infinitum. Even their side defenders (i.e. cafu and roberto carlos) act as attacking midfielders and they dont even do defense stuff (be my guest and clock them on rival side in ANY game).
If u dont recall correctly JUNIOR BAHIANO has been in the squad for several years now (i think hes playing since before France98 ). AND he´s the worst central defender ever in the history of the game. They do care? of course not.
BUT, on the other hand, if Italy lacked a solid defense, they would be very screwed as his attacking game is horrible (not talking about righ now, but their history standars). And the same with Germany (u would remember a guy who was the star of the team back in 74, wouldnt u???)
You see doc, its all about the style.

I think Taffarel was one of the best goalies from Brazil, Dida is just ok, but you are right Brazil is the only team in the world that doesnt worry about defense

Brazil is way stacked... unlike AMerican football were both team take turns attacking, with a good offense that can have hold the ball the entire game and keeps attacking, who needs a good defense? in soccer, your offense is your best defense.

I know ive seen some spanish here, is anyone mexican? Cuz Iran is gonna beat Mexico in the first game. To all of you koreans in here, who is number one in asia? thats right its Iran. Go IRAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to history, I read that the European teams has won the WC everytime but once when it was play on European soil. So I won't bet against that trend.

The Brazilian may got the best attacking talents in the world, but their defense is really crappy. If they meet one of those better organised European teams like Germany or Italy or even Sweden in the knock out phase, certainly anything could happen. And esp England, they have the high tempo game to close them down. They were successful for the 1st half against Brazil in the last WC but collapsed under the hot sun in Korea. Back to Europe, they can do that day in and day out.

u guys want a good bet? shevchenko for golden boot, even though the ukraine might not make it past the group stage, hes the only prolific player in the squad and therefore all midfielders balls will be directed at him. of course, he is also one of the best strikers in the world, so hes no stranger to converting those oppotunities.

want another golden boot bet? luca toni - italy. u probably havnt heard of him before, yet of the five main euro leagues (england, italy, spain, france, germany), he is top scoreer out of EVERYONE playing in those league, by about 5 goals. i think he is on 30 now. check him now!

No disrespect to Ukraine, albeit Shevchenko is one of the best striker in the world and Group H is relatively easy, they won't go deep in the tournament. To win the golden boot, your team must go deep in the tournament to even give you a chance.

Toni will be a better bet. But Group E (together with Group C) is a really tricky one. Czech is at least on par with Italy in terms of class and talent. And I believe Ghana (together with Ivory Coast) could be one of the surprise package of the tournament. And USA, though people dismissed them as a joke in the past, they are indeed getting better and better. This group is very open and I will not be surprised if Italy is eliminated in the group phase.

BTW, from your avatar, I thought you support Brazil or Spain. :)

Here are my picks:
  1. Paraguay
  2. Ghana
  3. Tunisia
  4. with Mexico as an outside chance.

Group A is a tough one with powerhouses Poland and Equador. Either could run away with it. Should be good to watch tho.
