Apparently in some Wimbledon in the 90's, the draw was done randomly, but it came out in such a way that the most entertaining match would NOT be the finals - a very similar situation to what we have here...

With that said, is it too late for the French Open organizers to change the draw as they've realized the most enticing match-up will come in the semi's and not the finals as it is now...?

They can either try to cover it up and say there was a 'system error' or something, or they can blatantly come out and say it: "we are not happy with the draw the way it is, so we're going to put Nadal and Djokovic in opposite halves so we can have the final everyone wants."

I don't think anyone would argue with them for doing that, and even if they did - so what? The tournament organizers can do whatever they want. It's not illegal, so they can get away with it.

Do you think it's too late for them to change the draw?

That's the most rediculous thing ever. "I don't think anyone would argue..." If that actually happen, the FFT would lose all credibility if they did change the draw to make it a more enticing final.
I feel like you're channeling your inner Tio Toni right now.

A Nadal-Dimitrov semi would be entertaining ;)

Entertaining for 2 sets until Dimitrov cramps lol. I think if they meet in the semi's this match between Djokovic and Nadal will probably top last years final. Nadal is worse and Djokovic is potentially better if he has his MC final form. Will be more even thus less boring.

ummm... so what, if they lose 'all credibility'? They're in this game to make money, not to maintain credibility...

Are they going to be jailed for doing it? No. So why wouldn't they do it?

So -- from the way you speak so authoritatively about their opinions on the matter, I'm guessing you've interviewed them already about this ...?

I never find Rafanole matches boring anyway, especially in slams.

The MC defeat must've stung but don't be scared, have a little faith in your boy, afterall he did beat Djokovic in RG 2012, right?

Exactly like 2011. It is a shame they didn't rig it that year to set up a Fed-Djoker final.
They can't do that. Rafa doesn't lose at RG (unless his legs break... literally. And given the fact he skipped both AO and Miami this year, I think his legs will be safe).

This will happen. I wouldn't even mind if Fed were to lose to Djoker. Let Djoker have his career slam. But I hope it's Fed who lifts his 2nd coupe. May the best man win.

The only jinxing that Rafa has ever suffered at RG is his knees. Other than that he's been totally jinx-proof (bad luck for the ill wishers)

Federer-Nadal is still the dream final for every tournament, including Roland Garros. Most likely way for this to happen was to put Djokovic on Nadal's side with the added benefit that this (possibly) gruelling match might give Federer a better fighting chance and thus providing a thrilling 5-set final as well.

If they did, all hell would break loose

On here, maybe, but the tournament organizers have not even heard of this forum so they could not care less. They can't get in any sort of trouble for it - they'd just be looking after their own financial interests!

Nothing is going to prevent Djokovic from sweeping the French Open without dropping a set, different draw or not.

The last thing I want to see a Nadal-Nole final...especially on a slow surface. Nobody wants to see 5 hour grindouts from the same players over and over again. I imagine its difficult to get a sense of true viewership these days but if a big tennis fan like myself is not tuning in for the AO, I cant imagine casual fans wanting to watch.

Which is precisely why they put Djokodal in the same half. So that the final would be unpredictable. And look at the stir it's caused here.

So, the tournament has started but I don't think it's too late for them to switch around Nadal's position in the draw. Only this forum would go mental, but the tournament directors really don't care if some little internet trolls get flustered

Or, perhaps they'll wait until Djokovic has actually won his quarter final, and then switch him over to Federer's side of the draw and Ferrer to Nadal's side the night before they play the semifinals.

You guys may think that would be out of order, but seriously - you lot are the only ones going to be complaining.

That's BS. That won't happen now. And no, internet forums will not be the only people complaining. The backlash would be too much these days now that the tournament has started. For one, it would tell us that draw rigging is not above them. And I mean obvious draw rigging. Not people who just assume the draws are rigged because their favourite player drew Djokovic in a SF. People just need to except the draw as it is.

Well, Wimbledon 2012 SF was the real final. Federer beating the defending champ before winning his 7th title. Same as RG this year.

There were only 16 seeds at the majors in the 1990s, and Wimbledon regularly showed preferential treatment to better grass-court players by giving them seedings above their world ranking. It was a joke, when at 1996 Wimbledon, Muster was seeded at number 7 at a time when he was world number 2. Muster pulled out anyway after injuring himself at 1996 Halle against Brett Steven. Aside from what happened at the 1996 US Open (which caused much controversy and Kafelnikov flew home in protest), this seedings manipulation was never done anywhere else. This ended in a threatened boycott by top clay-courters before 2001 Wimbledon. Instead of Wimbledon just sticking entirely to the world rankings to determine their seeding system, the number of seeds for all the majors was increased to 32, which changed the dynamic of the draws.
